Soundboard 9.2 - This was a highlight year in a career full of many highlights. A new album (which although recorded in 2010 did not see official release until recently) that Prince obviously felt good about and his playing and professionalism here on full display is just amazing. Audience 9.3 - This is a rock and roll show the way it used to be..and I mean WAY used to be! So the experience is well worth checking out especially because this tape captured lightning in a bottle in a very good way. Atmosphere combined with great sound you cannot go wrong here. Audience 9.3 - Way better than what you might expect. I was pleasantly surprised to hear how clean and rather detailed this tape is. I feel like I saved some money not having to buy a ticket to the show, but even though I missed them on tour, with tapes like these I can travel in time to Italy and relive this most excellent gig! Audience 9.4 - A real good one this is! Like a sharp dressed man entering a room and commanding attention, this show does the same. Frank sounds great, and I like his guitar tone here. Audience 9.2 - This merits quite a bit of adoration for hardcore fans and collectors because it is a beloved show that fell through the cracks of time due to it being so incomprehensibly cut up. We don’t know why it was that way, and therefore an otherwise excellent tape was relegated to the proverbial dustbin…until today. The composite was done by an adoring fan with an ear, by taking bits here and there from other recordings only days apart from the Chicago date, was able to manage a very compelling final product. Audience 9.3 - For me, because this is a recording from 2023, I place high expectations on it. There is no excuse because you have the best P.A.’s, the best digital recorders, and great microphones. So I want something that gives me a sense of being there and this tape does that. I like the “in the pit” feel of this tape, and I really like the immersive audio. Great! Audience 8.1 - Yes this is ranked pretty low on the sound quality scale, but it’s not a disaster because this is actually a full point or more better than the previous version of this legendary gig. It’s not unlistenable, and the proof is that you can hear every word Gabriel says during his stories. Extensive work in repairing and remastering this from a 1st generation tape made all the difference. Rediscover the earliest known live Genesis recording because for historical purposes there is no more significant a recording than this. Audience 9.5 - Many of you will be surprised by my rare high rating for an audience tape…but man, I gotta tell you, this is 100% justified. Yes, it’s sonically really nice, but it delivers that magical quality that real fans know about and is kind of hard to explain the uninitiated. Let me try: you feel like you are seated there at the show, you feel the anticipation, you know what is about to happen yet can’t quite believe how actually incredible it truly is. Enough hyperbole, you get it, I love this one. But to be fair, the recording quality is more like a 9.2, still great, but it’s the atmosphere, the spaciousness, the rolling drums that seem to pan across the speakers, the great sound mix, all of it equals pure magic and a legitimate 9.5. Audience 8.7 - A somewhat slightly above average recording that thankfully remains very listenable and stable, there are some periods during the show where the tape improves maybe to an 8.8 but once your ears adjust and you settle in, at the end you will think it wasn’t bad at all. It is NOT muddy, in fact there’s very little tape hiss so this must emanate from a low gen tape or it has been worked on. When some songs go from quiet to loud (as they frequently do at a Pink Floyd concert), the tape machine seems to take a second to adjust, perhaps it has an automatic level adjuster, but despite those tiny momentary hiccups the tape is largely smooth sailing. Audience 9.2 - A nice and bright tape, very clear, very clean, instantly you feel as though these tapers came with serious intention. Audience 8.9 - This sounds WAY much better than I remember it sounding, but then I first heard this show about 25 years ago so I guess it’s quite possibly a new source or an amazing remastering. Either way, this is certainly VERY worthy of appearing in your collection as it captures that open air festival vibe, and the band…Gilmour is inspired as his solos pierce the air with ferocity and guile. Bass sounds right on point here, and drums are perfectly balanced and placed in the mix just behind the others so to give those sounds center stage. Keys are much more present during the quieter passages, but they have a nice feel to them. All in all, this is great great great stuff. Studio Recording - This is actually a recent album (digital download only) of a band that first formed in Germany in 1969, and I knew absolutely nothing about them. Turns out they are really good! Their stock in trade is playing familiar progressive 70’s rock arrangements with the same vintage equipment used in their 70’s prime, but recording with modern facilities to get a full, powerful sound. I would say mission accomplished because this is quite good, and not only good but the fact that some of their older material is here in a reworked fashion that does it justice...which is kinda rare to find these days. Audience 9.3 - This is what I would call a definitive release in that I think if you wanted to know what Sabbath was in ’87 you can use this as a reference. For one thing, it sounds great – and another reason is because it sounds like the band is doing what it had in mind with the line-up and sound. A new direction maybe, but in the same way that maybe Technical Ecstasy was also a new direction. It’s still Sabbath, the bone structure is all there, but the smile has changed…and it has a place in the discography. Soundboard 9.4 - A biting and aggressive sounding recording that really works great for the 1994 version of Black Sabbath. Audience 8.6 - This old tape has recently gotten a much needed facelift. It’s as if 40 years of grime were wiped away. That is how I compare this new remaster to the old tape I remember from like 1992.
