Soundboard 9.3 - An interesting tape because it’s from soon after losing Duane, and I don’t think there’s many tapes from that period immediately after his death. Audience 9.0- The band taped these rehearsals which consist of writing, ideas, smoking lots of dope, jamming, and smoking more dope. -
Soundboard 9.2 - A good tight mix that emphasizes the vocals and Duane which I am 100% ok with! A joy to listen to. -
Audience 8.1 - This is actually an admirable capture, getting the entire performance with relatively few (if any) cuts. The tape is not that bad, it is just pretty old and struggles to contain the entire frequency spectrum so you get a tiny bit of “static” where the band is really loud and jamming. It’s pretty clear though, and thankfully the guitars shine through well, with a good rounded bass holding down the lows. -
Audience 7.5 - Serviceable tape that at times shows its age with some telltale squeaking at the beginning. Gives you a pretty good representation of the show without offending , but the mix has vocals kind of low, and overall is a touch on the dark side but Duane’s playing is the focus, where it is front and center in the mix. -
Soundboard 9.0 - Many people who collect this band’s live recorded works would probably all agree that the 80-81 period is the least favorite, but maybe that is because they never heard this one. This is new to circulation, and it is not without flaws (a few songs fade in, and it is a touch on the “hot” side) but I think it delivers where it counts. I particularly found the drums to be emphasized in a good way, you can feel them, and therefore it lends a heavier feel to the songs, including the seldom played songs they were showcasing from the latest album.

Audience 8.8 - A great, atmospheric and electrically charged show! Not a lot of heaviness to the bottom, but there is a roundness there, a pleasant to the ears mid rangy kind of sound with a lot of articulation on the high end (not shrill!) which causes the slide work from Duane to fill the hall and make for tons of electricity. Collectors will love this one. Now, one small thing to report, there is sometimes some minor static on the tape (barely noticeable) but it’s no bother. Get this! -
Audience 8.8 - A fierce sounding tape that has been re-mastered and shows some depth and instrument separation that previously was not there. The vocals at times are drowned out in the sheer onslaught of bass, drums, and guitars. The band even reminds a little of Deep Purple (check out “Every Hungry Woman” as a prime example) with keyboards featuring prominently so be ready for what is best described as heavier than normal Allman Brothers. Soundboard 8.8 - It’s a board tape, a little on the flat side but if you want to hear the whole band and what they are playing I guess this one is going to be right on point for you. Audience 8.2 - A loud and raucous tape, with a band of noise in the upper mid frequency that prevents better separation of instruments. Saving grace? Duane is the clearest instrument on this recording – in fact it is his guitar that soars over the sound to the degree that you almost inevitably focus solely on him throughout. As it happens, Gregg’s vocals are next up in the mix. Audience 8.7 - It’s definitely rare to find unknown Allman Brothers recordings featuring Duane, and here we have one new to circulation. The sound quality is very good, it really is from the master (obvious when you hear how clean it is) and it sounds like it has been gently mastered for optimum fidelity. A great find! Soundboard 9.1 - Fantastic! I’ve always known there was something recorded at the famous Whiskey-A-Go-Go by the band but had never run across it until now. It’s a nice and relaxed show with great guitar interplay (as usual) and tight backing (listen to Berry’s bass solo it’s on point). Chicago 1971 FM Radio broadcast 8.9 - Some generation loss and general passing of time has degraded the sound slightly but this version received a “freshening” which helps a lot. So, it’s a bona fide solid addition to anyone’s collection. Memphis 1971 Audience 8.3 - I had the luxury of being able to hear this tape before it was remastered and that would be the only way you can really appreciate how that simply removed what sounded like a layer of muck and grime, and revealed a shimmering sound that leapt out of the speakers… I am talking of course about Duane’s guitar. So, if you want to appreciate again what the guitar playing of Duane Allman was really all about then this recording will still cause shivers down your spine. Is it a great recording? Not really, but there’s something here that still pulls you in (mainly it’s Duane). Austin 1971 Soundboard 9.0 - A tape that, while incomplete (some songs fade in and fade out, mainly the first and last) still has to be carefully considered when examining the few remaining live recordings featuring Duane. Soundboard 9.3 - This is a rough and tumble sort of board tape. Obviously never meant to be used in any official release, but it does certainly get the job done regardless. Very definitive instrument separation so you can concentrate on any instrument you want and you will get maximum information out of it – until you choose another one and then you will get stuck on that one.
