• Soundboard 9.0 - Clean and tight but no atmosphere present. Rather dry, but mix is fine, quality is awesome.   (late show)

    FRANK ZAPPA – Providence 1972 (2CD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Audience 8.9 - A really good, solid, and clear tape, showcases the considerable talent of Zappa and the always excellent cast of characters he assembles each tour. This show features a lot of solid horn work, and Zappa plays very nicely with a good tone. There were a couple songs I was unfamiliar with and enjoyed quite a bit. I rather like the song Rollo! Fun stuff.
  • Audience 9.0 - Sourced from a 1st generation master - this show is quite friggin’ excellent.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - One of my favorites, Its not too often that Frank does "Chungas Revenge", "Tell Me You Love Me" and "The Blue Light" live. Audio is top notch and band is in great form....great packaging art work.
  • Audience 8.4 - Technically a good tape since everything is clear, not very dynamic and levels are kind of low. That being said, it is a tape you will crank very loudly, and that actually helps immensely. Do that, and this show rocks out!
  • Soundboard 9.2 - Leaning toward treble but still a good, tight show again by Zappa and crew.
  • Audience 9.8 - Complete 2 hr show with some killer guitar from the master himself. This is a must have for any collector (one of my fav's) with classic song selections at the Performing Arts Centre in New York.
  • Audience 8.6 - 9.2 - What we have is a mixture of 4 shows, all taken from 1988; Stuttgart, Bremen, Koln, and Mannheim. Great assortment of songs, giving us a wide variety of musical styles.
  • Audience 8.8 - This is a smooth and clear recording without much on the bottom end but such a decent middle that it almost doesn’t matter…besides you can add bass if you feel it is needed. What makes this such an interesting document to me (and obviously once upon a time it made an impression on someone else enough to make an LP of it) is that contrary to just being another US tour stop in the middle of the country, it is an energetic show with the band being in good spirits and an impressive set list to boot.
  • Audience 8.8 - A tape that may have been left on the shelf once upon a time but now thanks to modern mastering software has been brought to life.

Frank Zappa Palais des Sports St Etienne, France 28-May 1982 Disc 1 01 -Outside Now 02 -Montana 03 -Easy Meat 04 -Dead Girls Of London 05 -Shall We Take Ourselves Seriously? 06 -What's New In Baltimore? 07 -Moggio 08 -City Of Tiny Lights 09 -Pound For A Brown 10 -Joe's Garage 11 -Why Does It Hurt When I Pee? Disc 2 12 -Drowning Witch (incl. • Soundboard 8.7 - It’s real good, but maybe needs boosting of some frequencies somewhere, and the mix does not favor drums or keys too much, but, um, loves the guitar so there ya go.
  • Audience 9.3 - Features guest appearance by son Dweezil Zappa towards the end of the show playing with father on "Whipping Post" and also a final jam. Worth gettingfor that alone, if not anything else!
  • Soundboard 9.4 - (with portions filled in with Audience 8.7) Most is Soundboard of excellent quality, including the mix, and with some great crowd response. Band is in high spirits, a great show!
  • Soundboard 9.3 - The venue is unknown as is the exact date, but here’s what we do know – the show smokes! It captures the imagination, and is what I love about collecting. Do you remember what you were doing in May of 1973? I am sure the band played this gig and quickly forgot about it as they traveled to the next town, but it never ceases to amaze me how here they are in some college town probably, completely engaged and engulfed on this tour, yet manage to produce exemplary performances over and over again like it’s no big deal. Then, move on to whatever is next…it’s almost a little melancholy.
  • Soundboard 9.5 - 4 Disc Set, 2 Shows (Early and Late show) It doesn't get better than this one  (in my top 10)  Killer! Also listed both shows (individually) under "Upper Darby" 1980.
  • Soundboard 9.2 - Clear sound and great mix and very worth having.

  • Audience 9.5 - Easily one of the best, if not the best, audience recording of the US leg of the 1988 Tour. If you have to pick one, I would always point to this one for that reason but also because it is a great show and features a special guest or two (Adam West and son Dweezil), but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. • Soundboard 9.5 - Late show from 4-29-80. It is also included in the "Philly Special" (4CD), which is the Early and Late Show.
  • Soundboard 9.0 - Some piano trouble apparently began this show, and there’s some hissiness (not that bad) to contend with in the quieter parts. Still, a lot of fun.
  • Audience 8.8 - A good, strong, very clear recording with accompanying audience members who are REALLY getting into it. I found it fun, not annoying at all, because mostly they are quiet while the music plays. The music is great too, and strong performances by everyone. Stick It In / Stick It Out Stadthalle, Vienna, Austria February 3, 1978 Stick It In: 1. Introduction ["The Purple Lagoon" vamp] [01:30] 2. Dancin' Fool [03:29] 3. Peaches en Regalia [02:24] 4. • Soundboard 9.4 - Crisp, with incredible detail on drums, A very tight punchy sound that is quite exhilarating. Wonderful!
  • Audience 8.9 - A sort of mid-rangey tape without any kind of high end to speak of but because it is clean and warm, it is perfect to season to taste. It’s a recording that begs for personalization, because it is actually quite good, and could benefit from just minor EQ here and there. I like this one!

  • BBC Sessions...As expected, excellent pro sound!
  • Audience 9.0 and Audience 8.6 - The Fillmore West show is a revelation. This has been floating around mislabeled as Winterland 69, and in horrible quality. This is the actual venue, and comes from the original master and sounds incredible! The Boston show is also real nice sounding, with an immediate sound, with some minor tape artifacts present. A great two-fer here, vintage ’69. Free never sounded so good!
