• MOR 1985 Audience 8.6 - A strong recording that gets off to a funky start (at one point a mic jack unplugs and one channel drops but it lasts only a minute). I prefer this to a dry soundboard to be honest. It’s not a perfect audience recording but it sure does deliver on energy and atmosphere! I like it. Tokyo 1987 Audience 8.7 - Nice atmosphere on this tape, and the audio comes through especially vocals and bass actually has a nice round sound to it. Guitars are not super distinct, but thankfully the solos are really soaring above and captured pretty well.  I like the snare drum here, whoever was mixing this show really must have had a hard-on for the drummer ha ha! • Soundboard 9.3 - A great recording of a great hair metal band (I mean, they could play!) in their prime. I used to brush it off when I was a young man, but now I appreciate great musicians not matter how they dress or act. Good is good.

  • Hard blues rock band formed in 1975 in Houston, TX. Featured vocalist BB. Watson who left Houston to pursue a career in Nashville as a C&W singer. He had some fleeting success, eventually came back to Houston and worked with Michael Knust (Fever Tree) and Keith York (Albatross, Rare Breed) for a stint and also attempted to reunite the Rare Breed (those sessions contained on this CD). Rare Breed also featured the guitar of Robert Hampton before he joined Hooker. These are all the known recordings.
  • Audience 7.4 - Missing some dynamics but clear and strong. Maybe not from a master source, but it's not as if there are bunches of Rare Birds out there!
  • Audience 7.7 and 7.5 - The Gaelic Park show is an outdoor show and the band struggles at times to tune up but it is the better of the two in terms of clarity and sonics, with maybe just a bit of extra treble boost present which puts guitar into the forefront. The Academy of Music gig is not as present and bright but it is perhaps more even, with a broader spectrum of instruments in the mix although guitar is now downplayed. I would say both recordings deliver different characteristics which help the listener get a better sense of the rare live Ramatam experience
  • Chicago 1979 Soundboard 8.8 - A little bit on the “ragged” side mix-wise, with strong kick drums and guitar, vocals next. Sound quality is decent due to it being a soundboard but some instruments are placed well behind such as keyboards. It is a high energy sound, a real sonic blast to be sure. Denver 1979 Soundboard 9.3 - A refreshing and bright board tape, mixed well and everything is heard pretty clearly. Keyboards still mixed lower down the chain of command but now I think I understand this idea – while the band is playing it’s simply keyboard accompaniment, and when it’s keyboards time, he’s brought up louder. Works for me. Long Island 1979 Audience 8.7 - A pretty decent tape for this hall, the bass sounds very nice, full and round, guitars are a little back, vocals are present and up front more or less. So, all in all unless you have to have Ritchie blasting full on into your eardrums, which he is during his solo bits, this one will sit nicely in the collection and I even think it will find a repeated listen or two. • Audience 8.8 - This recording is nice and clear, and on the “bright” side of the audio spectrum which is actually very good for those who wish to season the sound  with EQ. You can add some low end here and it would make a world of difference because the sound is already good, so anything that can help it is only going to make it even better rather than overdone. Sometimes loud rock concerts in large venues have a low end rumble that makes adding anything to it a risky proposition – this one screams “please add some low end to me”!  A great one to personalize, the palate is free to embellish upon. • Audience 9.6 - Monsterous! Sounds like you are right there, crystal clear and loud. The BEST EVER!
  • Audience 7.1 - This tape cannot contain the power of the Rainbow! It sounds overloaded, but there’s music here, if you can get past the sort of mid band rumble.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - This tour of Japan has gone down in Rainbow history as being the most fiery performances. Everyone playing superbly, and as always Dio is perfect.
  • Audience 8.2 - Clear recording with some interesting “wide” vocal panning that is probably an effect from the hall, but it’s cool!

  • Soundboard 8.9 - There is no problem with the audio fidelity of this title, it sounds great – but that is not to say there is not a problem with it. So, it’s basically like this: If you want to hear what Radiohead themselves consider their biggest ever gig, than you will have to deal with what sounds like a quadraphonic recording in stereo…which basically means you get an in/out phasing effect almost throughout the entire show. Is that a deal-breaker?  It might be, then again it’s not a muddy audience tape it is a very good board so the negative effects are not nearly as horrible as they could be. • Soundboard 9.6 - This is a live soundboard compilation of songs from Kid A and Amnesiac, taken from the 2000 and 2001 tours. The songs are sourced from broadcasts, internal promos and individual tracks that Thom gifted to a fan and is just the kind of thing if you want to discover what this band was about before you dive into the deep end of the pool. A very very well thought out release. Note: Thom's recordings were raw soundboard feeds that have been matrixed with audience recordings to provide more atmosphere and to blend with the rest of the tracks. 01 The National Anthem (Verona) 02 Morning Bell (Dublin) 03 I Might Be Wrong (Jersey City #2) 04 Dollars & Cents (Verona) 05 You And Whose Army? • Soundboard 9.3 - Listen to the beginnings of something happening, you can feel it about to take off. It’s a bunch of free-thinking kids who’ve smoked a little something, maybe popped a few little somethings…and then whaddya know the blues and folk and country and all kinds of music you grew up with sounds a whole lot better if you amp it up and throw some wild licks here and there…maybe let the sound feedback some…the birth of the San Francisco sound of the 60’s. • Soundboard 9.7 - This is the one to get if you want to hear this band at arguably the peak of their powers. Sounding like a flashier, somewhat more progressive version of Iron Maiden to these ears, but whoa nelly there is a whole lot of premium quality musicianship happening and it is happening in fantastic quality. Most recording of busy, progressive metal groups simply have a hard time mixing the different instruments in such a way as to deliver the punch without over-killing it and destroying the integrity of the sound. This recording is brilliant because it doesn’t do that, and I honestly have never heard live early Queensyche in this manner before and it is a thrill, it’s a MUST have if you have even a passing interest. • Audience 8.3 - A tape that one must admire for sheer effort, capturing an entire performance of what had to be an enormous venue filled with screaming people…not the best environment to do field recordings!  The music, however, is here, in average fidelity but not obscuring the excellent performance given by the band. QUEEN – Ultimate Rare Cuts (6CD) Complete Set

Original price was: $72.50.Current price is: $65.00.
All Studio and/or pro live. Most of it is excellent quality, very little I would say is less than excellent. Interesting how it was compiled though, the producers opted to chronologically list the tracks according to their release date, not by actual performance date. That makes for an interesting listen.  DISCLAIMER – to preserve the look of the original 6 volume set, I had to use materials available to me which were a little below the usual high standards we maintain with Wolfpodscd releases. Your purchase includes a print out of the track listing for the complete set.

  • Audience 8.8 - Thrown into the middle of the action, surrounded by hyper excited Japanese teenagers, you are REALLY going to experience what this evening felt like on many levels – not least of which was the super-electrified performance of a Queen band riding the crest of a popularity wave that would last many more years. Audio quality is good enough to warrant serious investigation of this offering. Queen Budokan, Tokyo, Japan March 22nd, 1976 Disc 1: 01. Opening 02. Introduction 03. Bohemian Rhapsody 04. • Audience 9.4 - When an audience tape is done correctly you get a very real sense of the environment, of the people and the moment happening in front of you. This tape does all of that for you.
  • Audience 8.4 - The situation with this recording is that although it is really clean, like master quality clean, the clarity gets a little lost when the band is at full volume. And that is because it is incredibly “live” and atmospheric and does not focus the audio directly into the mic. So, it’s very much an experience that immerses you but lacks super tight sonic clarity but a VERY nice recording otherwise. For 1975, it’s a great capture.
  • Audience 9.5 - Hard to really improve upon this one - it's lovely in all regards. Great, clean highs and round lows with a great mid range. It's highlighted by a respectful crowd that rarely intrudes while the band is performing but very enthusiastic between songs. Wish I was there. This recording allows me to be there and hear what I missed. Queen Seattle Center Arena Seattle, WA March 13, 1977 Disc 1 01 Tie Your Mother Down 02 Ogre Battle 03 White Queen (As It Began) 04 Somebody To Love 05 Killer Queen 06 The Millionaire Waltz 07 You're My Best Friend 08 Bring Back That Leroy Brown 09 Brighton Rock 10 '39 11 You Take My Breath Away 12 White Man Disc 2 13 The Prophet's Song 14 Bohemian Rhapsody 15 Stone Cold Crazy 16 Keep Yourself Alive 17 Liar 18 In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited 19 Now I'm Here 20 Big Spender 21 Jailhouse Rock Medley 22 Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting 23 Stupid Cupid 24 Be-Bog-A-Lula
  • Audience 8.4 - A solid tape that sounds like it has been remastered to remove hiss, but artifacts remain. I imagine though that it sounds better than before, because it is clear that there is something to work with here.
