Audience 9.4 - This is a band that has attained the kind of status that warrants a serious examination of their live "bootleg" catalog. In particular, I think the years 1987 to 1992 are the important years, and any tapes that are listenable are considered collectible but the ones that are excellent, as this one is, should be sought out. Why? Because Guns 'N Roses was more than the sum of their parts, and the music that happened on stage more often than not seemed to hold that most elusive quality - Magic. Studio Quality 8.6-9.5 - I was not expecting this to be anywhere near this good. I kinda just assumed it would be a collection of 4th gen cassette tape garbled noise. It's far from noisy and garbled, it's actually DAMN good! Maybe two or three tracks out of the lot are a bit less clear and dynamic, but those are the minority here. All in all, this set rocks! Soundboard 9.4 - Clear and bold (especially percussion) capturing a very fine creative period of the band (the dual guitar with Neal Schon being especially notable). I did notice a slight amount of distortion in the lower frequencies but it's barely noticeable. The mix does change towards the end of No One To Depend On and a lot of the boominess and excessive volume is dialed back so it mitigates any distortion present. SANTANA Denver Coliseum Denver, CO. London Audience 8.7 - A decent recording that remains consistent throughout. Everything comes through, albeit not with a lot of detailed anything, just good overall clarity and decent mix. I would commend the taper because I know he had to have battled with the Hammersmith Odeon acoustics, loud audience, louder band, and consumer grade gear and yet still managed a good capture. Brussels Audience 8.9 - This is a strong recording and finds the band performing at a very high level. Good sound balance, and though you get a sense of the sheer volume, it does not stress the tape. Audience 2 Source Matrix 9.2 - The best part here is how awesome the bass and drums sound together - so massive yet enough detail to separate them nicely. Guitars and vocals occupy essentially the same space in the mix, neither rising high enough to hog the bandwidth. So, all in all I think this matrix gives us the best possible audio of this show and that is a really good thing!

Audience 8.7 - A recording that, while it does not open up to reveal a heck of a lot of depth, it is clear and present, with thump and some big arena bombast. The vocals do not appear up front in the mix, and low end is not highly defined although very present in a "feel" sense, the entirety of the sound can be roundly enjoyed though, as the relative clarity and presence of the band give this old tape credibility in the collector world. Audience 8.7 - Sometimes a recording that may not be rated in the 9's might be passed over out of hand by picky collectors. That would be a huge mistake in this case. These are both unbelievably cool in a variety of ways - and the sound quality is not even an issue. The audio is fine for a super loud British metal band that comes to Texas and plays smallish venues - you can hear everything clearly. I would say that you might not get the wide spectrum, the sound is going to be focused on the middle range of instruments which gives you good guitar/vocal action at the expense of maybe the kick drum, and definition of bass, so who cares? It's not a deal-breaker at all because once you start listening you soon realize how kick ass these shows are. This is the stuff man! NOTE: Both of these shows have different dates than the single CD releases found on this site. You won't be duplicating anything, they are different dates for both the San Antonio and Kileen gigs. FM Broadcast 9.2 - Even though this is a broadcast, it retains a "rough" mix quality to it which suits the band's sound and style. The recording quality is fantastic, it does not have a lifeless feel but rather an obvious impromptu feel as you can tell by the stage feedback as the mix gets dialed in. Audience 9.0 - I have to say this is a very good recording if your preference is to really be able to make out the vocals and to hear every nuance of the lead guitar possible. In fact, the sonics tend to favor the upper mid-range and highs, to the extent that I was not enthusiastic about the sound of the snare drum here...but that just shows you how articulate that range is. Is it screechy then? No, it's not that this is chirpy or screechy high at all, but one may want to play with the EQ to bring up more low end maybe...because to my ears that is what it needs. Audience 9.7 - Each and every one of these recordings is spotless. Taper was dedicated to getting the absolute best position, with superb gear, and above all without blemish. The results are spectacular! Gilmour is in excellent form, so this adds to the listening experience tremendously and it's quite hard to stop once you press play. So sit back and strap yourself in to a long journey through past and present in a most luxuriating way. Again - it sounds like the same taper throughout the entire 6 night stand. A gut-punching kick drum and soaring above your head lead guitar, and the kicker is the audience reacting after each song - respectful applause and never interfering with the music (as it should be). Audience 9.4 - A delightful and warm atmosphere highlight this bright and well mixed concert recording. I struggled to find any reason to criticize it, but there are some occasional voices behind taper, and that is REALLY nitpicky. Audience 9.7 - Spectacular, crystal clear and lush sound makes you sink deeply into this one. For some, the Grateful Dead are not easily understood, but this show and this recording can easily be understood as beautiful music played with passion and talent galore. Now, to be honest, this set is missing an important segment, the "space/drums" part is conspicuously absent, but there is still plenty of lengthy workouts to keep you engaged with the psychedelic overtones of a Dead concert as well as the more bluegrass and bluesy numbers. Audience 9.2 - Here we have a real treat for those who now realize what we had in our youths with the "Seattle Sound" as epitomized by Soundgarden, a sound that fit the times very appropriately. Now for the kicker: This show not only sounds great but has plenty of fun moments with Chris Cornell and the audience (I think he's a bit toasty on the potent German suds). Audience 8.7 - While this tape may not enjoy the same clarity as some of the Japan 82 recordings, it does have a good powerful delivery nonetheless. Vocals come through the clearest, but the combination of bass, and guitars follows with the force of a piledriver to your skull...and I rather like it. Soundboard 8.7 - What we have here with these two shows are a couple of primitive soundboards, and by that I mean they may have run the sound through the board but what ended up on the tape is NOT what you would expect. It's not a manicured, expert mix and pristine sound, it's a very raw, brutal, loud, obnoxious, hellish, and violent turbulence of sound that somehow fits the vibe to a tee. This is Slayer, in 1985, and it sounds like it. Wonderful in its rawness, brutal in its aggressive sonic assault, and 100% vintage Slayer.

Audience 8.7 All shows appear to have been recorded by the same taper who was diligent to show up to all the Sabbath shows in his town three years in a row. I am impressed with his effort, you can tell he's not an amateur and but for the fact he's not using pro equipment, he most certainly would otherwise have gotten a stellar result. As it is, it's fine but not winning any dynamics awards. What it does deliver is consistent, strong, error-free recordings that you can relax into, and let yourself adjust to what is there because it's certainly not that bad. I started listening to these shows in order to rate them and ended up just letting them play because it's cool to hear this great line-up playing in a far away place away from the glitz and glamour of the metropolis, year-after-year-after-year, and yet deliver a performance no different from one they might have done at, say, Radio City Music Hall or Madison Square Garden.
