Audience 8.8 - On the rarity scale this is one of those needle in a haystack recordings. It’s an obscure “group” (actually just a duo but here it sounds like they have some accompaniment), and the music straddles the fence between fold psyche and space rock (that’s a good thing). Studio 10 - Well, this is a rarity! Not only has this flown completely below most collectors radars, but it also qualifies as being a perfect recording…and it doesn’t necessarily begin as such (although I’d still rate it a 9.8), it becomes one. Why is that? Because it has all the elements of greatness and not just the audio quality. Eric is heard here in a more jazzy setting, with players who are well versed in music theory and are top shelf players in their own right – maybe it pushes Clapton to explore more deeply, and he does…although he still manages to make it more bluesy which to me is really cool because it gives these sessions the swing that can be sometimes absent in technical jazz. This obviously was let out on purpose, the recordings are too clean and if indeed they are rehearsals, they are very dialed in and sounding more like an album is being recorded. But if you listen super closely, there are moments where you can just hear the faintest of mic bleed through and it seems to be the kind of talk, or “shouts” that you might hear during a soundcheck or rehearsal. Soundboard 9.3 - Not the typical sounding board mix here, it’s got a much more live sounding guitar sound, like mic’d a little further away giving it some spacial quality, and vocals same way, like they are not fed direct into the board. It’s just sounds different than most, not in a bad way, just different. Audience 8.7 - It's not the clearest, deepest of recordings but it is not boomy, muddy, irritating, or ruined by shouting morons either. It gets the job done, and what's more it's one of those shows where another guitar legend just happens to be there and just happens to get on stage and jam at the end...this guitar legend is none other than Jeff Beck so there is that.

Soundboard 9.0 - This recording, to me, sounds like it was in a television studio for a live audience. I can’t tell for sure, but it is the way the audience reacts and the type of reverb going on. Either way, it’s a good recording, first couple of tracks a little hissy but it clears up considerably. Audience 9.4 - Before you write off the late 80’s Eric Clapton, you REALLY need to look deeper for a minute. This performance, and this recording, clearly demonstrates the reason why one should examine the totality of an artist’s career, particularly if said artist was as prolific and talented as Mr. Clapton. The edgy, electrified sound of Clapton’s Cream days is gone and that is ok so long as you still get the TALENT, and many of Clapton’s performances (at least on tape) sometimes lacked the elements that you would have hoped for, despite his undeniable songwriting prowess…it was the PLAYING of the guitar, and the sound of said guitar, that we craved. Here, along with his pal Mark Knopfler, all of that is delivered and the audio quality does the whole thing justice because it is excellent. I think playing with Mark elevated Eric’s game. Hearing them do “Money For Nothing” together was cool, and Mark decided to sing in his own “bluesy” way in deference to Eric. Sweet! Eric Clapton feat. I am not trying to sell you on this, this just captivated me and by the end of the show I felt like I somehow knew Eric personally a little tiny bit. Audience 9.2 - This is a very well done Audience recording from very close to the stage. The music is clear and bright, and the mix of all instruments is really great too. I particularly think the drums sound very real, percussive, and just drive this performance in a very non “laid back” sort of way. Guitar has a lively tone, and as a bonus you get a finally that features Carlos Santana. Soundboard 8.8 - A little bit thin, but it’s clear and of course the guitar is really captured well. Vocals are sometimes in the background here, not that it matters because the all important guitar work is so present you will be more focused on it instead. It is a pretty good performance, it was a good night. I can’t complain about this one, I think it will be appreciated by people even those with only a passing interest in Clapton. Audience 9.4 - I really found this to be a real gem. First, I think it starts with a respectful but enthusiastic Japananese audience and then because of the immaculate source tape. The recording, while maybe light on bottom end just a touch, is crisp and clean and features a flawless midrange. Drums have an extremely "live" feel, you almost just kind of look off to your left and right to make sure a drummer isn't there in your living room!

Soundboard 8.7 - A tape that shows some age with a little bit of a lack of high end that would provide more clarity as far as the sound mix. It’s a workable board tape nonetheless and it does feature the antics of Pete Townshend and Keith Moon so there is that.
