• The second CD released by the ShroomAngel label featuring vintage Hands studio recordings. These recordings make up what would have been the bands 2nd LP and date mainly from 1980. This is officially reissued by ShroomAngel Records.
  • This is the first release on the Shroom Productions record label begun in 1995. It consisted of tracks mostly from Hands 1977 January Sound recording sessions in Dallas, TX.   The CD was put together from that plus an assortment of other tracks because, at the time, it was not known if there would be another Hands CD, we just did not know what the demand would be. Well, some 3000 copies later, and there is STILL demand for this great music. Numerous reviews and consistently high ratings give praise to this band and this CD in particular. Discover them if you have not heard any of their music, I mean, if you love bands like Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Kansas, Yes, Camel, Happy The Man, Gryphon, Greenslade, UK, or PFM.
  • Formed in 1972, Hands were originally called Ibis, and then a series of name changes which eventually led to Prism, which they were widely known as, until things got serious. With the production of high quality studio demos, they were forced to change names again, this time for good - with the name HANDS.  These early recordings capture them at a time before the studio quality demos, when they were still working small clubs and colleges and playing a lot of covers (albeit very interesting ones).

  • Dunstable 1976 Soundboard 9.5 - Every Hawkwind collector surely must have this already in their collection, it’s just too damn good. So few recordings of such an eclectic band, so yeah, this has to be considered a MUST HAVE, and it’s equally cool to find it paired here with another soundboard tape.

Croyden 1977 Soundboard 9.2 -A respectable board tape, the mix does heavily favor guitar, keys are present more during passages where they are supposed to be in the lead. Vocals are out front, also where they need to be. So, it’s a workable mix, not perfect but definitely good for the casual and hard-core fan.

  • Audience 8.7 - Many fans of the band, especially those who seek out Lemmy period recordings, look to this one as being easily top 3. It is left here untouched, even though to my ears it could use a volume boost but that can be done on the listener's end so it's not a deal-breaker at all. The recording is notable for being clear, and easy to discern Lemmy's immense power bass lines. I'd never heard it prior, so to me it was a very welcome addition to the collection. • The Glasgow Apollo - Soundboard 9.2
  • Soundboard 8.6 - A strange mix that seems to leave out any bass, although I can hear the bass notes somewhere, I think. Still, it is a recording that you have to appreciate in that it’s reasonably clear which is hard to come by with this very densely layered sound.
  • Audience 6.3 - Loud, echoey, boomy
  • CD 1 - Audience 8.4 - A real treat, since there are so few good live Hawkwind recordings out there. CD 2 - Audience 7.4 - But all instruments can be heard if a touch lo-fi, and slightly crunchy, it’s still decent for the era and chosen for inclusion on this set because it is listenable compares to some of the other 1977 shows.
  • Audience 7.8 - As with most Hawkwind early 70’s aud tapes, it’s a little cluttered being they played so loud but guitars and vocals are prominent in the mix and that REALLY sets this tape above 95% of the others.
  • Audience 7.6 - A valiant capture by the intrepid taper, really has a good feel of the venue but the sound itself is kind of in a strange spot in the spectrum. Still it’s good, but you want it to “move” more to the middle, can’t explain it any other way.
  • 8.8 - 9.0 - Absolutely enjoyable, excellent recording of a band at the PEAK of their mighty powers, a set list that will blow your mind, a performance that rocks the house...any questions?
  • Audience 9.0 - A great effort by taper to capture this entire show with the kind of results that keep you wanting to enjoy it. Band on fire, audience responds, taper captures it well…yes! • Audience 9.0 - A lovely capture, with a massive drum sound and crisp, accurate highs. Just great!

  • Milwaukee 1980 FM Broadcast 8.7 - This was broadcast, the question is, was it recorded professionally and did it sound like this when it was aired?  Probably it did not sound like this – because this is below the threshold for what is acceptable for a legitimately broadcast live performance which means it is probably an off-air tape that has suffered from degradation. That being said, it’s been re-mastered and it sounds decent enough to be included in a set which features all soundboards so that says something for it. Vancouver 1981 FM Broadcast 8.8 - This is another one of those not quite living up to radio broadcast expectations probably due to a capture off the air onto cassette tape, regardless it still sounds fine just a bit dated. A re-mastering helped considerably and that is why the show is included in this set. Dortmund 1982 Soundboard 9.1 - Sounds like a large, open air stadium and that atmosphere is preserved onto the tape. A really decent one for the collectors out there. Daytona 1984 Soundboard 9.2 - Wow, the 80’s, and the unique obsession with that (now very dated) certain drum sound that can take any song and make it “new wave” ha ha!  Thankfully it’s not the case on every song otherwise I would have said skip this show, but it’s a good, well recorded one so enjoy it. Raleigh 1985 Soundboard 9.4 - Good hard panning of the guitars so that you can distinctly hear each of them as autonomous instruments. A hard rocking sound was mixed on this evening. • Soundboard 9.7 - Great stuff!
  • Audience 8.4 - There’s some obvious flaws in this tape, what sounds like a rather highly compressed sound, but I have to say if you give it a complete listen you will fall in love with it. Case in point – not to be a spoiler, but while playing Magic Man they riff on some classic Yardbirds and it just makes it for me. Just a little riff is all it took for me. I love this show! An absolutely devastating performance you won’t forget about.
  • Pro recording 8.8 - A Tape in desperate need of a remastering. Has everything it needs to be amazing. Right now, it is very good, but take the noise out, boost the right frequencies and you will have something MUCH better.
  • Soundboard 9.6 - Another stellar board with the best kick drum sound ever. Right smack dab in the pocket, and it helps to propel the songs “straight on you” as it were.
  • Soundboard 8.8 - The band was recording this show, possibly for a live album. Contrary to what you might think of 80’s Heart, there is no wimp out here, they kick major ass!
  • Soundboard 9.7 - Hard to get much better than this one!
  • Soundboard 8.8 - This tape shows some signs of age but it is holding its own and is strong in many aspects. The only thing that prevents the higher rating is that there is some “dirt” present, what I mean is just some extracurricular noise present in the mid band, nothing that destroys any enjoyment at all – it is a strong tape as I said, but for a soundboard you expect purity and this one is not pure. Still, I think the setlist answers the question “should I”?  Yes. You should. This is a kick ass show and the Zeppelin covers just put it over the top. Heart Waukegan, IL. • Audience 9.4 - A killer tape with clear and direct sound as if you are right in front of the mains but no distortion or overload. Good balance too. Nice to hear this band live because the few other boots I've heard of them were really bad sounding.
