  • Audience 7.9 - This is the complete concert from the 23rd and NOT the officially released Dec, 24th Rainbow show. The problem with it being unofficial, or course, is that it was not recorded professionally, and in this case the audio is a little on the muddy side. I don’t think it is ruined though, because it’s not “thick” mud, it’s just missing something on the high end.
  • Soundboard 9.6 - Professional recording and mix…almost perfect in every way!

  • Audience 9.3 - This show rates highly in the audio department because of how the guitars sound and I am a guitar guy so there is some bias…but it doesn’t matter what I like because it’s just a great recording all around. The sound envelopes you, it’s a completely immersive type of recording and will suck you in immediately. What a great find this is! • Audience 9.0 - Rowdy, exciting, electric, and just a ton of fun! A good and crisp recording that feels nice on your ears. No offending frequencies, bass is round and brassy, vocals are well placed and enunciation is clear. A nice one! • Audience 8.7 - A kick ass show and quality is perfectly suited for the kind of loud and raucous music the Kinks made…albeit with excellent melodic sense.  Recording has loads of power without overloading so I believe taper was using very good stuff for the time.
  • Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride! • Soundboard 9.5 - A professionally recorded concert, this was broadcast on the famous Rockpalast TV show in Germany.
  • Audience 8.4 - A very rare tape here, new to circulation and not bad, but not great either. What is the downside? Recorded towards the back of the hall, and some consistent tape noise that crowds the middle a little. The upside?  It’s actually not bad sounding for all that was against it, you get used to it and after a few minutes you realize it’s very listenable. The crowd is pretty rowdy, I heard fireworks going off at one point – and they really love their Kinks in Cape Cod. I like this for the collectors, they will appreciate it. The Kinks Cape Cod Coliseum, South Yarmouth, MA July 2, 1977 Band line-up Ray Davies – lead and backing vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards (1964–1997) Dave Davies – lead guitar, backing and lead vocals (1964–1997) John Gosling – keyboards, piano, backing vocals (1970–1978) Mick Avory – drums, percussion (1964–1984) Andy Pyle – bass (1976–1978) Pamela Travis - backing vocals (1977) Claire Hamill - backing vocals (1977) Total Time = 01:28:12 Disc 1 01 One of the Survivors 02 Rush Hour Blues 03 Tired of Waiting 04 Set Me Free 05 Sunny Afternoon 06 Well Respected Man 07 Death of a Clown 08 All Day & All of the Night 09 Slum Kids 10 Life On The Road* Disc 2 11 Stormy Sky* (end cuts) 12 Life Goes On* 13 School Days 14 The Hard Way 15 Education 16 Full Moon 17 Banana Boat Song 18 Lola 19 You Really Got Me 20 Jukebox Music
  • Audience 9.0 - Fantastic recording really, in fact I can only try and be real nitpicky to try to find anything outright bad about it. It’s close up, warm, atmospheric (I don’t mean echo or reverb either), and pretty good separation of instruments. Kick drum is even present, so it is also detailed. Good One!
  • Audience 8.6 - Talk about being in the crowd, this recording is total immersion if ever there was immersion! But, here’s the good news – it’s a BLAST!  The crowd is really an integral part of this performance, the band senses they have a great audience and they really play to them. It’s rather fun and gives you a tremendous feeling of nostalgia. A great ride!
  • Audience 8.4 - A very rare treat, to hear a complete “Preservation” era show. There’s really not a lot of 1973 recording around. This one sounds just fine, while not venturing too far in either direction dynamically, and some lack of clarity down low in the spectrum…but the upper mids and highs seem fine. It’s a good recording that could use your own EQ flavoring to round it into shape. I am happy to have this as I have not heard many, if any, ’73 tapes as good as this. Early and Late Shows - Soundboard 9.1 and Soundboard 8.6 - The late show board tape is slightly problematic in that vocals and to some extent the drums are really prominent in the mix but the rest is pushed back. Acoustic songs come through nicely, they bring up piano and acoustic guitar so you get everything more even. At times it gets a little better, it’s not bad it’s just not as good a mix as the early show.
  • Audience 8.5 - A steady, reliable recording that delivers a very live, natural sound but lacking just a little separation of instruments. Still a VERY good one!
