Audience 7.5 - Serviceable tape that at times shows its age with some telltale squeaking at the beginning. Gives you a pretty good representation of the show without offending , but the mix has vocals kind of low, and overall is a touch on the dark side but Duane’s playing is the focus, where it is front and center in the mix.

Soundboard 9.1 - Fantastic! I’ve always known there was something recorded at the famous Whiskey-A-Go-Go by the band but had never run across it until now. It’s a nice and relaxed show with great guitar interplay (as usual) and tight backing (listen to Berry’s bass solo it’s on point). THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Whiskey A-Go-Go Los Angeles, CA January 24, 1970 1. Don't Keep Me Wonderin' 2. Stormy Monday 3. In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed 4. Trouble No More 5. Dreams 6. Mountain Jam
-
Soundboard 9.2 - A lot of free form jamming here, what they call Mountain Jam is really made up of some improvisation before the band goes off into this more structured jam, and the show is a little condensed but sounds like it is much longer than it actually is. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Columbia HS Auditorium Decatur, GA May 23, 1970 1. Mountain Jam Intro 2. Drums 3. Berry Bass Solo 4. Mountain Jam 5. Will The Circle Be Unbroken 6. Bo Diddely / Spacy Jam 7. Not My Cross To Bear Duane Allman - guitar Gregg Allman - organ, vocals Dicky Betts - guitar Berry Oakley - bass Butch Trucks - drums Jai Johanny Johanson - percussion

Sale!Soundboard 9.8 - Great presence on vocals and guitars, bass is completely in the pocket and the mix is flawless. I am glad the keyboards are not buried because they add so much to the sound.
-
Soundboard 9.3 - An interesting tape because it’s from soon after losing Duane, and I don’t think there’s many tapes from that period immediately after his death. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Price Hall, Jackson, Alabama March 23, 1972 CD 1 1. Statesboro Blues 2. Done Somebody Wrong 3. Ain't Wastin' Time No More 4. One Way Out 5. Trouble No More 6. Soundboard 8.8 - It’s a board tape, a little on the flat side but if you want to hear the whole band and what they are playing I guess this one is going to be right on point for you. Allman Brothers Band Palace Theatre Albany, NY 03/03/73 01. -Wasted Words 02. -Done Somebody Wrong 03. -Statesboro Blues 04. -Ain't Wastin' Time No More 05. -One Way Out 06. -Stormy Monday 07. -Midnight Rider 08. -Jessica - Bomb Scare - Jessica 09. -Trouble No More 10. -In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed

Soundboard 9.3 - This is a rough and tumble sort of board tape. Obviously never meant to be used in any official release, but it does certainly get the job done regardless. Very definitive instrument separation so you can concentrate on any instrument you want and you will get maximum information out of it – until you choose another one and then you will get stuck on that one. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - Fillmore West, San Francisco January 29, 1971 1. Statesboro Blues 2. Trouble No More 3. Don't Keep Me Wonderin' 4. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed 5. Midnight Rider 6. Hard blues rock band formed in 1975 in Houston, TX. Featured vocalist BB. Watson who left Houston to pursue a career in Nashville as a C&W singer. He had some fleeting success, eventually came back to Houston and worked with Michael Knust (Fever Tree) and Keith York (Albatross, Rare Breed) for a stint and also attempted to reunite the Rare Breed (those sessions contained on this CD). Rare Breed also featured the guitar of Robert Hampton before he joined Hooker. These are all the known recordings.

Formed in Dallas, TX. in 1970, they were very active gigging and recording (several 7" singles) and built a good size following by the time of their pinnacle in 1976. Their lead guitarist, Randy Nunnally, had even attracted the attention of National act Ted Nugent and was asked to join Ted as his guitarist for a tour. Unfortunately, at that same time, Randy was diagnosed with ALS and went downhill pretty fast, passing away a few short years later. This CD contains music found on their 7" singles as well as a fantastic live radio broadcast. All of the original master tapes were lost in a fire, this is all the music that could be found. The CD is dedicated to the memory of the late, great Randy Nunnally.

Dallas, TX. based hard rock/jazz fusion group heavily influenced by Jean Luc Ponty and Mahavishnu Orchestra. Enjoyed a brief but fruitful life span between the years 1975 and 1977, and having at least two significant line-up changes. Bassist Roy Vogt would later go on to find much success touring with legendary singer Englebert Humperdinck and teaching and recording many compositions in Nashville, most notably with guitarist extraordinaire Stan Lassiter.

Formed in Dallas, Brat were originally known as Cottonmouth (beginning in 1972). They went through a line-up change and a name change in 1975 and became a staple in the local Dallas rock scene. Known as a hard rocking covers band, they interspersed their own songs into their set list and eventually did some demos but nothing became of it. The fact is, they were a gritty, powerhouse live band! They breathed fire and fury into their very eclectic cover songs, and inspired hard rocking originals. This CD comprises their only known studio demos and live tracks.

We got this tape years ago when it was submitted by a customer of ours who thought we would be interested in it. He was from Ohio, and told me he was friendly with the guys in this band. He managed to get their demo recording and sent it on behalf of the band. That was around 1986, and the recordings dated around 1983. That was the last I heard about it. Decades later, I rediscovered the tape and decided it was time. Heavy and complex, the first track of their demo tape was 45 minutes long! As you can imagine, there were no labels that took them on...except me of course!

Formed in 1972, Hands were originally called Ibis, and then a series of name changes which eventually led to Prism, which they were widely known as, until things got serious. With the production of high quality studio demos, they were forced to change names again, this time for good - with the name HANDS. These early recordings capture them at a time before the studio quality demos, when they were still working small clubs and colleges and playing a lot of covers (albeit very interesting ones).

This is the first release on the Shroom Productions record label begun in 1995. It consisted of tracks mostly from Hands 1977 January Sound recording sessions in Dallas, TX. The CD was put together from that plus an assortment of other tracks because, at the time, it was not known if there would be another Hands CD, we just did not know what the demand would be. Well, some 3000 copies later, and there is STILL demand for this great music. Numerous reviews and consistently high ratings give praise to this band and this CD in particular. Discover them if you have not heard any of their music, I mean, if you love bands like Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Kansas, Yes, Camel, Happy The Man, Gryphon, Greenslade, UK, or PFM.

Released on vinyl, this features excellent multi-layered guitar, ripping bass and drum work, and Ian Gillan inspired vocals with dark, haunting, somewhat blues-tinged hard rock songs. Recorded in Rosenberg, TX. only a single 45 rpm was released, but the tracks on the 7" were from a previous demo recording done in 1974. This and much more is featured on the CD version, where you can hear for yourself why the world should have heard of the name Ottis Coleman, but hopefully now they will get the chance. For fans of Trapeze, Deep Purple.

Heavy, rural psyche that features pretty acid influenced guitar (putting it mildly) stoned, psychedelic lyrics with an Eastern mysticism pervading. Effects include conch shell through echoplex (yup), flutes, walls of feedback, sort of what you might get if you mixed Ya-Ho-Wa 13 with Tangerine Dream, Loch Ness, Hendrix, and Amon Duul. Out There!

Austin rural rock that had built up a good following and had incredible promise but for some reason their first recorded album never got picked up by anyone and remained shelved. As far as I know, this CD is the only way to hear this lost album, it's so obscure not even the track names are known. The band did change their name eventually and recorded another album which I know very little about.

Begun in Houston in 1969, brothers Duane and Bill Massey created an eclectic hard rocking progressive rock band that survived numerous line-up changes over the years and still exists to this day. An album, "Ruff Mix", was released in 1975 and features excellent arrangements augmented with blazing electric guitar by Richard Heath who went on to join Lic. This CD captures them in the early 80's where more emphasis was placed on hard guitar sounds, not necessarily metal but good Texas hard rock.

Sale! All Studio and/or pro live. Most of it is excellent quality, very little I would say is less than excellent. Interesting how it was compiled though, the producers opted to chronologically list the tracks according to their release date, not by actual performance date. That makes for an interesting listen. DISCLAIMER – to preserve the look of the original 6 volume set, I had to use materials available to me which were a little below the usual high standards we maintain with Wolfpodscd releases. Consequently, for anyone who purchases the complete set (at a huge discount), you will get a printed track sheet covering all volumes.

Sale!Studio recordings 8.8 - sounds like a vinyl source, cleaned up for the most part.
-
Sale!Audience 8.8 - A surprising tape! Never knew of this one, it’s quite good and clear!
-
Sale!Soundboard 9.7 - From the very beginning you know you are in for quite a thrill ride with this one. As good as it gets, highly recommended!
-
Sale!Soundboard 9.3 - Takes a minute to get a mix, but then it’s off to the races. Interesting to hear this very early period of the band. Very much a good o’l fashioned American hard rock band.
-
Sale!Soundboard 8.8 - This recording, while being very clear and obviously recorded for a broadcast, is somewhat dated sounding…in a really good way. It sounds like a relic lost in time, but the band is good and tight. It’s the beginning of the 80’s, and their sound would soon get more FM friendly, here it’s still got that “proto metal” edge to it.
-
Sale!FM Broadcast 9.4 - Excellent atmosphere (better than a pure, dry soundboard) and the band, what can I say, just great as always.
-
Sale!
Audience 8.6 - Very close to the mains, and it’s incredibly loud to the point that Robin can barely control his feedback. But the tape holds together, even if there’s some loss of vocal clarity, none of that even matters because after a couple of songs you are so bludgeoned by this devastating guitar/bass onslaught that vocals would be barely noticed anyway.
-
Sale!Audience 8.4 - Let’s face it, ever since the movie came out, recordings like these take on new significance. I just find it fascinating to hear, knowing the back story a little more. This is a very decent recording with primary focus on vocals and drums, with guitar and bass a little behind them but present enough to be able to enjoy this. You can turn the volume up, levels are good - the taper was careful!
-
Sale!Soundboard 8.7 - The interesting thing about this particular board tape is that the bass is the “lead” instrument in the mix and thus allows you to hear the sometimes overlooked intricacies and interplay in that regard. I would say that even though I enjoy and appreciate this aspect of the recording, the average fan may lament the somewhat overshadowed guitar and vocals, but these are not issues that nullify a superb performance and decent recording.
-
Sale!Soundboard 9.7 - A pre FM master was used and it clearly magnitudes better than what you’d get recording off the radio!
-
Sale!Soundboard 9.7 - I love the way they recorded the vocals, it has a very cool quality to it, such that it lends that sort of electric spark to the proceedings. This is very energetic set by the band.
-
Sale!Audience 7.8 - I love these little time capsules, maybe it’s not the best fidelity, but I can hear pretty much everything here and the bass is fat without distorting so it’s got some balls to it. You know, listening to things like this makes one really wish they had an actual time machine.
