Audience 8.8 - Quite an amazing find! A very rare and previously uncirculated show that sounds very clean and close, and it’s the original line-up! I have to categorize this as a must have. -
Audience 8.9 - A little bit of tape noise comes through on quieter passages but this is a very strong recording for the vintage. I’d like to know what the taper used for this. -
FM Broadcast 9.2 - This was a real revelation for me because I had not known much about this band other than “The Devil Went Down To Georgia”. I find them to be similar in a lot of ways to maybe Marshall Tucker Band and Allman Brothers, where perhaps if Allmans were Southern Comfort then CDB would be Jack Daniels. This period of the band features Billy Cox (Hendrix/Band of Gypsys) on bass too, which I never knew about either (I would have lost on Jeopardy). -
Soundboard 9.1 - The source used for this CD is a DAT tape made from a direct transfer of Joey Molland’s tapes of the show. Whether that means it is the same as what else is out there, I do not know, but it is possible that the radio station did their own recording for broadcast and other releases use the FM broadcast. This is not that! The sound quality is uneven at times while the levels are adjusted but after that it’s smooth sailing. -
FM Broadcast 9.5 - Both shows are professional radio broadcast recordings and are excellent. -
Audience 8.1 - I’m always amazed that tapes keep turning up just when you think you’ve discovered them all. Here’s one that is new for me, and it’s not bad. Now, you aren’t gonna crank this on the hi-fi and use it to impress your buddy or anyone for that matter – but for those of us who understand what we are dealing with, I think you will appreciate this tape and find probably more good points than bad. For one thing, it is not a muddy mess, and your ears will adjust to it and you’ll get sucked into it like I did and find it to be a decent one. -
Soundboard 9.2 - Another fun show with the boys. Come on, really if you can’t get into this you just need to drink a couple of beers and relax, maybe smoke a doob or something. -
Soundboard 8.8 - A solid early 80’s show, tape does show some slight signs of age in that it does not have a crystal clear sharpness as many have come to expect from Prince soundboards. Do not let that stop you though, like the rating indicates it is still a great board tape. -
Soundboard 9.4 - This is what Prince collectors come to expect, a crystal clear board of an amazing performance. Funny thing when listening to live Prince, he’s never put on a bad show…ever. -
Radio Broadcast 8.3-9.0 - Very old, and quite rare source material means a little analog degradation in the earlier broadcast but gets much better for the rest of the material. -

Audience 9.5 - This is what a professional audience recording sounds like. Why oh why would anyone bypass a recording of this fidelity simply because it isn’t a board? Ridiculous! This is killer. -

Audience 8.7 - Here we have another Lotus tour gig which is probably recorded during the same stretch of gigs we got the album from. That is interesting in and of itself, and while this recording is not pro, it does reveal the power of this band. The music is pretty forceful, not a wide or airy tape but pretty solid effort by the Japanese taper. A tape that has not seen much circulation at all. Audience 8.8 - A fantastic open reel recording that features a very lively and clear sound. Guitar tones are lovely, vocals very present, and a cheerful vibe throughout. Fantastic! Soundboard 8.9 - The band is in really fine form here, the sound is good with maybe a small amount of compression which rounds the highs down a little but a nice mix and that performance wins the day. Soundboard 9.0 - A slightly uneven, but kind of a fun sound mix. You get pretty up front drums, very crisp and focused, and then guitar which is also pretty loud, but vocals are a little behind the music (not completely drowned out) and bass hovers underneath like a viper ready to strike. You won’t distinguish the individual notes but you’ll get a menacing rumble. Interesting, and kinda cool actually. February 9, 1975 Caley Cinema, Edinburgh, Scotland Robin Trower w. Audience 8.3 - A fun and rowdy crowd who seem to really appreciate the band and their music…a lot! Recording is decent, not particularly detailed but it’s a lot like being thrown into the crowd so you get plenty of enthusiasm near the tapers. I found it to be kind of amusing and not a one and done. Pro Studio 9.4 - This supposedly comes from an acetate but it sounds very good, too good to be an acetate but who knows? Short but sweet, and worth the price to get to hear this collaboration. What could have become of it had it been pursued more at the time. I think it is pretty good stuff, let’s face it, Arthur Lee does sound better vocally than Jimi. Pro Studio 9.5 - This collection would be for the person who does not wish to sift through exhaustive comps of early B-sides and studio sessions. Rather, it showcases a cross section of his early sessions designed to reveal only the highlights. It’s certainly easier to tackle especially if you plan on bringing the disc for a road trip.
