• Soundboard 8.9 - Great performance here, one of the best I have heard quite frankly. Having just ditched the classic line up, you would think a downturn in performance caliber would occur but I do not get that here at all.

  • FM Broadcast 9.0 - A tape that seems to be intact but missing a little of the sharpness and attack of a low gen or master which just means you crank it a little louder. It’s all there, the quality is there, but needs your input to get it up to loudness. Performance is cracking!

  • Audience 8.4 - This is a welcome tape as far as I am concerned. Anything with Ian Gillan has my attention, and this show is much better than the Dublin gig, which I mention because it also contains the infrequently performed “Hot Line” so it’s a big win for fans. The vocals are really clear, and so is the crunchy guitar, with occasionally a little phasing effect but kept to a minimum. Not hi-fidelity, but very good and well worth having in the collection! • Audience 8.3 - This is your standard “decent” sounding 70’s audience tape. It does not offer a wide dynamic range, although it is pretty clear and you hear every instrument and vocals above all of it  in good clarity (important when it comes to Free where vocals are a huge component). Nothing about this tape offends the ears sonically speaking. It could be argued by this time Free was sounding maybe a little tired, but that is subjective. • Audience 8.6 - A surprisingly good recording, given what had to be less than ideal conditions – small nightclub, primitive gear, etc. But they pulled it off, and captured what one might think of as Roxy Music’s “rookie card” since it is like their 2nd gig of their first US tour. • Audience 8.5 - The thing with this tape is that it’s great on both ends…but in the middle it is kind of undefined. The sound begins to gell and battle itself for presence right in the middle frequency, but at the same time, when the frenzied battles end, like during quieter passages for instance, the sound is right in the pocket. It’s like the equipment wasn’t ready for the volume, but it still captures the sound in a pleasing to the ear frequency so you aren’t put off by the mix, you just strain a little to make out the details. And, the details are important in this line up because the twin guitar work at times is spectacular. I am critical of the mix for that reason, I want to hear every lick – but overall the consensus here is that this is a tape not to be missed. • Audience 8.4 - The Roundhouse in London was not the ideal place to make a stealth recording, and this one barely wins the struggle between room and distance to present a surprising, clear picture of a very early Dire Straits show. Songs “Me And My Friends” and “Real Girl” would be dropped from the set soon after this show, so having a tape like this should be considered important to the collector. • Soundboard 9.3 - Fantastic! Now I was not familiar with this band, but I must say, it’s pretty good musically with emphasis on their white-hot lead guitarist. The songs aren’t anything super duper, and their singer isn’t sensational either, but in combination all this works together to become a little more than the individual parts. I like this guitar! I already made that point but it’s worth repeating. • Audience 7.8 – 8.5 - Why the variable rating? Because the music was excessively loud and during extreme sections of music, there is distortion right in the middle frequency. What does this mean? Well, before the re-master it meant that you could not hear what was going on except for quieter passages (which incidentally sound great, and there is a lot of it since this was a band that played complex, dynamic music) but thankfully now a lot of that has been mitigated. It is still cluttered a bit when at full volume (really gives you an idea of how loud this show must have been) but MUCH better and easier on the ears now. Is it worth it?  I would say probably yes, but I know most prog enthusiasts are also critical of audio fidelity so there’s that. For me, I still got into this one, knowing the improvement made to the tape allowed me to give it a chance and I am glad I did. • Audience 8.6 - This is just fascinating. They could have easily billed this show as “The Aerosmith Blues Band” or something because they really were all about playing gritty blues and rock. The guitar work is cleaner and very articulate, it’s quite a revelation to hear them when they were really so conscience of the music, the notes, and not the glam.  I was impressed with the sound quality too, this is a certain keeper! The ‘81 show is a little cluttered in the center, but has broader range and sounds “hot” so to speak. • Soundboard 8.3 - I found a lot to sink into with this very early Megadeth recording. First off, it’s better sounding than the old tape that floated around for a while, as someone took the time to re-master it and pitch correct it which makes a big difference. It’s still a little narrow and thin, but you’ll be blown away by what you are hearing, if you have even a mild interest in the formative years of Megadeth, this show is a must. Good Morning-Black Friday
  • Audience 8.8 - A solid recording, with just a hint of bass-rattle in the lower extremities but it is not problematic. King's X Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, Irvine, CA March 12, 1994 Band lineup Doug Pinnick - bass, co-lead vocals Ty Tabor - lead guitar, co-lead vocals Jerry Gaskill - drums Total Time = 42:18 Set list 01 Complain (fades in) 02 Black Flag 03 We Were Born To Be Loved 04 Pretend 05 Over My Head 06 Cigarettes 07 Dogman 08 It's Love
  • Audience 8.4 - I would call this a very decent recording, with bass and guitar being pretty defined, which is great because I enjoy hearing distinctive bass notes. The drums are not as well defined, but they are there and come more to the fore during Red House. This is a highly recommended show, and he really pays homage to Hendrix at this gig. Mahogany Rush Winterland, San Francisco, CA March 30, 1975 Band line up Frank Marino : guitar, vocals Jimmy Ayoub : drums Paul Harwood : bass Total Time = 42:46 01 A New Rock-n-Roll 02 Red House 03 Talkin 'Bout A Feelin > Mona 04 Johnny B. • Audience 8.4 - A decent old (and by old I mean it sounds…old) tape that doesn’t have extreme highs or lows but is pretty consistent and clear enough to hear everything. The highlight to any Kinks tape of this vintage is the set list, they had some of their best songs ever and were playing all of them. Later set lists rarely visited Arthur material (there were some obligatory songs played at times) but here you get a heaping helping. THE KINKS Pierce College Woodland Hills, CA. • Soundboard 9.5 - Fantastic as usual, although I wasn’t crazy about Prince’s guitar tones during this period, although he sure knew how to play the damn thing!
