Audience 7.8 - Loud and clear pretty much. The recording is very respectable and you can sink your teeth into this set because the guitar is prominent, loud, in the middle and RIPPING. If I could just get one CD of only the solos I would listen to it every day. -
Audience 8.7 - A lo fi recording that astounds you, how can it be possible? It is like a cassette deck recording with one mic but man, it is VERY hot! Blazing electric guitar runs, manic rhythm section, insane over the top music on a cheap portable deck and it smokes. Wow! Torino show is a strong 7.6 -
Audience 9.4 - Whoever did this one really knew what the heck they were doing so I am thinking it was someone who knew what they were doing…and the band was on board with it. Audience 8.8 - This may not be a tape with good song separation or detail but it occupies a sonic range that is very comfortable on the ears. Usually when attending a very loud, bombastic heavy rock or metal concert you aren’t going to distinguish much anyway, you will basically hear a roaring sound…but this tape delivers a little more than just that. This is a good document and taper used good gear, sat in a good spot, and recorded everything. I would call this recording completely immersive, with a warm, inviting sound. Adrian 1969 & Detroit 1970 Audience 9.1 - Surprisingly good and clear! I was very tempted to call this a board tape but there’s too many artifacts that suggest otherwise…but it’s an amazing find being now the earliest known Amboy Dukes tape. Detroit 1970 Audience 8.6 - The audio is clear but the live mix drowns out vocals. Drums are perhaps the strongest here, followed by the guitar/bass in tandem but I can also hear keys in the mix…so the verdict is that this tape is most welcome and delivers where it is needed even though it is a little rough around the edges. SDBRD 8.8 - One of the best, if not the best, of the later Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes live recordings. Great playing abounds, and Ted is Ted, as usual, and it kind of makes one wonder – did David Lee Roth get his schtick from having been to one of these gigs? Seems like it. -
Upper Darby 1975 Audience 8.7 - This is not an easy one to pull off – you have to give a lot of credit to this taper as he’s trying to capture an excessively loud and aggressive rock band in a smallish club. That means you’d better be in a good spot with a tape machine that can prevent distortion due to high volume. Taper got those two essentials right. What is the flaw then? I would say unless you are super picky, you really will understand the value of this tape. Good sound quality, you hear everything (both guitars clear!), drums, bass even! So it isn’t board tape perfect, but I think this rare 1975 audience tape belongs in every fan’s collection. It is that good. Central Park 1975 Soundboard 9.8 - What a thrill this is! Audience 7.8 - Kind of noisy but Ted’s guitar is very up front here, that is kind of all you really need to be honest. It’s actually not that bad really. -
Soundboard 8.6 - Raw and heavy, and the mix is a little funky to my ears but it’s live rock and roll. -
Soundboard 8.9 - Mixed for television broadcast, the sound is a little better than your average videotape source audio in that it is not nearly as compressed sounding. Vocals are mixed hotter than normal but not too bad, some occasional channel disturbances that last seconds and are resolved and are few and far between so overall this is a real good one. Soundboard 8.7 - This is clear enough and is a board tape but my guess is that it is actually sourced from a line feed (video) because I do notice some compression on the signal. Still, it is highly enjoyable, getting ample amounts of bass, drums, and of course guitars (even some panning effects now and then, very cool). Capital Centre Landover, MD.
