Telluride 1978 FM Broadcast 9.2 - A little hit and miss on the live mix, where sometimes I don’t get some of the background instruments associated with the synth or whatever is happening back there…but I could be wrong about that, I mean it is rather subjective whether I am hearing the mix as the band intended or if I need something personally – no matter, because this is lovely and warm, with just enough audience sound to give you a better representation of the liveness of the recorded gig. I need that, personally, otherwise you might as well just listen to the albums!

Boston 1978 FM Broadcast 9.7 - A very well preserved recording that features soaring instrumentation in crystal clear quality – highs are sweet and distinct and bass is warm and round. The mid tones are sublime, and your high-end system will love reproducing this recording!

Audience 8.9 - A great effort here by the taper, it’s got a little bit of that “just about to break” quality, where the limits of the tape are just about reached…yet it holds together. This gives the recording an unmistakable intensity, and for that I rate this highly and say it will be most enjoyable to the listener. Audience 9.2 - I rate this one highly because it has a unique quality to it. First though, it’s a good recording, but interestingly it gives a clear and powerful representation to the often overlooked and seldom FELT kick drum. This instrument is kind of crucial to the sound of a heavy metal band, especially one whose primary power source is closer to the bottom end of the sound spectrum. So, a nicely defined and powerful kick drum propels this show in ways others do not. Highly recommended!

Milwaukee 1980 FM Broadcast 8.7 - This was broadcast, the question is, was it recorded professionally and did it sound like this when it was aired?  Probably it did not sound like this – because this is below the threshold for what is acceptable for a legitimately broadcast live performance which means it is probably an off-air tape that has suffered from degradation. That being said, it’s been re-mastered and it sounds decent enough to be included in a set which features all soundboards so that says something for it. Vancouver 1981 FM Broadcast 8.8 - This is another one of those not quite living up to radio broadcast expectations probably due to a capture off the air onto cassette tape, regardless it still sounds fine just a bit dated. A re-mastering helped considerably and that is why the show is included in this set. Dortmund 1982 Soundboard 9.1 - Sounds like a large, open air stadium and that atmosphere is preserved onto the tape. A really decent one for the collectors out there. Daytona 1984 Soundboard 9.2 - Wow, the 80’s, and the unique obsession with that (now very dated) certain drum sound that can take any song and make it “new wave” ha ha!  Thankfully it’s not the case on every song otherwise I would have said skip this show, but it’s a good, well recorded one so enjoy it. Raleigh 1985 Soundboard 9.4 - Good hard panning of the guitars so that you can distinctly hear each of them as autonomous instruments. A hard rocking sound was mixed on this evening.
