Aud 7.5 - A very decent and clear recording from perhaps a little further back in the hall than one would prefer, but guitar is prominent, then drums and bass with Jimi vocals a little bit behind the noise. Also, I am glad the sound has a little separation, enough to discern everything that is going on, so big plus there! -
Disc 1 Philadelphia 1969 Aud 6.5 Pretty bad one, sound is distant and distorted due to Jimi’s insane volume and lack of taper knowledge of simple dynamics. Disc 2 Philadelphia 1970 aud 7.2 A relief to the ears after playing disc one of this set. -
Aud 7.3 – 7.5 - This recording ranges due to the fact that it is a 3 source merge. When it is at a 7.5 or even higher, it is pretty good stuff, like Red House for instance really shines. The weaker parts of the show just lack some definition and clarity but you can hear everything on stage, with some atmosphere too. Overall it is a special show, you get that sense from the bands performance. -
Aud 7.3 - Low levels, but surprisingly clear for this tour. You get this for the set list obviously as he played gems like Are You Experienced and Spanish Castle Magic. Disc two features the additional material from other venues and is very decent sound. -
Various sources SDBRD 9.0 Aud 8.6 - In order to present the entire concert, various sources had to be used but it’s well worth dealing with some level fluctuation because this is a smoking hot gig. The DVD presents the film that was shot of the entire festival, it is kind of dark and grainy in spots, other times it is nice and bright. Perhaps this is why it was never officially released? -
Pro Studio Quality 9.3 features Stephen Stills and other luminaries of the time. A nice artifact! -
Aud 7.3 - Gets better, is loud but not too overloaded. Small club atmosphere, a real treasure of a ’68 show. -
Aud 9.0 - One of THE BEST audience tapes yet to be officially released by Dagger. You just have to have this if you collect Jimi. -
Aud 7.1 - Here’s an interesting situation, a marginal recording that is clear and audible. How can that be? It’s a transistor cassette deck recording, but the capture is centered, and the band is actually clear, just lo-fi. A recent remastering really brought out some of the music and to my ears lifted this tape out of “curiosity only” and into actual collectable status. -
Aud 8.2 to 8.8 - The sound varies a little bit as the set progresses, mainly because it is a rotating stage and therefore sounds great when the stage is in front of the taper. The DVD is fascinating, a real treasure! -
Aud 7.2 - Thin, like a small transistor cassette deck recording but surprisingly the narrow bandwidth allows Jimi’s guitar to penetrate and come to the center, so you are treated to a Jimi fest on this tape. Lo Fi, yes, but it’s the Jimi show with a cutting guitar sound with that tell tale stadium echo that gives it a nostalgic vibe. I kind of like this tape. Really interesting capture! -
Aud 8.3 - Sometimes a touch subdued, but overall quite a thrill ride. A very clear tape with some great low end to it. Jimi seems just a little buried vocal wise but you will not care because the guitar is extremely satisfying since it rings out clear during solos. A great tape in many ways really. -
Aud 7.1 - Cacaphony, yes – but wait a minute! There’s something more here, and it kicks ass. Jimi is SHREDDING this gig and the tape gets all JIMI all the time. This is the Jimi show folks, the tape delivers on that end and is rewarding for the listener in the end. -

Aud 7.6 - Large stadium sound with that telltale reverby sound but really pretty clear with just a touch of tape saturation that doesn’t hurt too much thankfully. You can get into this one. -
Aud 7.4 - Lo-Fi sound to be sure but the upside is that it’s not a sludge wall of sound mess here. Guitar is reasonably clear and louder than everything else by far as it sort of cuts right through this tapes’ audio spectrum. Drums peak through the haze next followed by distinguishable bass notes, and Jimi is remarkably clear as far as hearing every word he sings. Let your ears adjust to the narrow bandwidth and you are going to enjoy this show a lot more. It has many good qualities to offset a lack of sonics. Less loud songs shine through the clouds. -

Aud 8.3 - Now Hendrix collectors all know that good quality 68 tour recordings are in short supply, so when they pop up, well it’s a no-brainer…so we have two no-brainers here for you. Both are very decent, and the Vancouver in particular is very cool in both sound and performance. -
Pro Studio Quality 9.8 The BEST collection you can find for the money. Put together by people who wanted to give you only “the goods” and not just endless noodling or naked mixes. Fantastic and intoxicating! -

Aud 8.2 - At times this really shines, at times a little crowded too, but really a wonderful piece of history. One of the better audience tapes of the time period for sure. -
CD 1 Aud 8.2 Nice version here, must be a very low gen tape source. CD 2 Aud 8.3 I like this recording a lot, it’s a touch overloaded but you hear a very realistic sound, pretty close to what you may have heard standing close to the mains. Maybe a little bit of tape saturation (not distortion, two different things!), otherwise this one is very fun to hear putting you right in the middle of it all. -
CD 1 Aud 6.8 This one is pretty rough, but if you got Vol. 1, than this set completes the Texas picture (with the exception of the Houston gigs). CD 2 Aud 7.2 -
Aud 7.2-7.5 - A fluctuating rating because I can hear the potential for this tape as it depends on what he is playing where it is average and where it is pretty decent. Tape noise is a factor, and that can be removed (modern technology). Otherwise, Jimi is present, especially his singing. -
Aud 8.9 - This was probably recorded on a reel to reel, who knows it could have even been Jimi’s machine? Very good quality! -
Aud 6.9 - Not an impossible one, for instance, vocals and guitar are here, although in a not-so-hi-fi form. That being said, the guitar bombastics in this show are second to none. He’s really letting it all fly, so I figure he was getting a good sound from his backline and he was in a terrific mood. Fiery show and worth getting for that alone. -

Audience 8.6 and Audience 8.5 ... two shows are represented in this set, and both sound similar but the 2nd disc sounds maybe a touch more distant and less defined, but also less overloaded. Both sets are guitar-centric, so Page admirers are going to be good good with this set. -
Audience 8.8 - Sonically it sits in a good place. Although separation of instruments is a little quirky to my ears, the signal is very strong, as if right in front of the main PA system, but Plant is crystal clear, and the guitar/bass combo is super fat right behind him. It makes for an interesting experience, really giving a sense of being in the front row. -
Audience 8.7 - Is it possible to be too good of a player? I mean, he’s clearly got mastery of the instrument, and the material, but there’s something about a player that gets too close to the edge that excites me, like Rory Gallagher for instance, you know, where it seems at any moment they might just completely take it to the ragged edge – and Joe has a very controlled fire in contrast which is fine, but I need more. Fans will love this performance, he’s clearly at the top here. -

Audience 8.8 - Both shows here have the same dynamic - Massive volume! Now, here's the rub: the recordings are blast furnaces of rock and roll but NOT distorted beyond just the tiniest amount of crunch on the fringe of the upper-middle band. That means you get raw power as opposed to earschplittenloudenboomer,if you catch my drift. It's just a well recorded RAWK show at high volume and intensity...as it should be.

Audience 8.6 - A “crisp” sounding tape, emphasis on drummer and vocals in the mix but you also can really hear the background keys which is nice. Not saying Joe is buried, just that this house mix seems very democratic in allowing all players to have a presence. I appreciate hearing how much the piano and keys helped shape this material. The audience is very respectful, and they love their Joe, that’s for sure. -

Audience 9.1 - Once taper settles in, this tape TAKES OFF and is pretty impressive. What struck me more than anything is not only the realism, but the wide dynamic range. It’s also a very powerful recording, you get a sense of the volume, especially when you get isolated drums during some of those small breaks in between measures, they are full bodied and great sounding. Soundboard 9.2 - Taken from a television broadcast, but to my ears does not sound all compressed and one dimensional, so my guess it is a source not derived from the broadcast but tape possibly made of the gig separate from the TV production. Who knows for sure, but it sounds pretty good. -
Audience 8.8 - I can’t believe it was 32 years ago I attended, and recorded, this concert. It was my birthday present, although this actually went down one day before my b-day. It’s weird because Joe also sang “Birthday” the classic Beatles song (and it wasn’t for me although I imagined that it was ha ha!). This recording is only now being made available, and it sounds great and just how I remember it, with Joe being very animated and playing lots of numbers not normally played, and telling funny stories. It was a great night, I had a blast.
