Hard blues rock band formed in 1975 in Houston, TX. Featured vocalist BB. Watson who left Houston to pursue a career in Nashville as a C&W singer. He had some fleeting success, eventually came back to Houston and worked with Michael Knust (Fever Tree) and Keith York (Albatross, Rare Breed) for a stint and also attempted to reunite the Rare Breed (those sessions contained on this CD). Rare Breed also featured the guitar of Robert Hampton before he joined Hooker. These are all the known recordings. -
Audience 8.7 - This is a very bright and clear recording from close to the stage. Loads of electrifying atmosphere – you literally are planted right in between the tapers close to the stage and you really sense that. -
Audience 9.5 - This is the good stuff! A well balanced and dynamic recording as close and clear as you can get to Susanna...ahhh...you can hear but not touch! Audience 9.5 - You can relax into this show, it's occupying a very pleasant space when the soundwaves wash over you and you begin to have a sense of the size of the venue, the space around you, and the distance from the stage. That's what I like about smaller venue recordings, and modern taping gear is getting so much better with the mic technology and level adjust that it's really hard to screw it up. Audience 9.2 - Here we have a real treat for those who now realize what we had in our youths with the "Seattle Sound" as epitomized by Soundgarden, a sound that fit the times very appropriately. Now for the kicker: This show not only sounds great but has plenty of fun moments with Chris Cornell and the audience (I think he's a bit toasty on the potent German suds). Audience 8.7 - While this tape may not enjoy the same clarity as some of the Japan 82 recordings, it does have a good powerful delivery nonetheless. Vocals come through the clearest, but the combination of bass, and guitars follows with the force of a piledriver to your skull...and I rather like it. Soundboard 8.7 - What we have here with these two shows are a couple of primitive soundboards, and by that I mean they may have run the sound through the board but what ended up on the tape is NOT what you would expect. It's not a manicured, expert mix and pristine sound, it's a very raw, brutal, loud, obnoxious, hellish, and violent turbulence of sound that somehow fits the vibe to a tee. This is Slayer, in 1985, and it sounds like it. Wonderful in its rawness, brutal in its aggressive sonic assault, and 100% vintage Slayer.

Audience 8.7 All shows appear to have been recorded by the same taper who was diligent to show up to all the Sabbath shows in his town three years in a row. I am impressed with his effort, you can tell he's not an amateur and but for the fact he's not using pro equipment, he most certainly would otherwise have gotten a stellar result. As it is, it's fine but not winning any dynamics awards. What it does deliver is consistent, strong, error-free recordings that you can relax into, and let yourself adjust to what is there because it's certainly not that bad. I started listening to these shows in order to rate them and ended up just letting them play because it's cool to hear this great line-up playing in a far away place away from the glitz and glamour of the metropolis, year-after-year-after-year, and yet deliver a performance no different from one they might have done at, say, Radio City Music Hall or Madison Square Garden.

Audience 8.7 - An excellent 8.7 too! First off let me just say how blown away I am to find a long lost 1978 recording previously un-circulated and in such great shape! Wow man, this is a fantastic find. The sound is pretty beefy for what sounds like an old tape deck, normally you'd expect something either thin as hell or muddy as crap but it's neither. It lacks a little clarity, but it's maybe near the drums and I can tell you guitar sounds clear (maybe a little thin but bass is pretty solid so it picks up the guitar sound a bit) and Ozzy is situated in the middle and can be heard pretty well. A solid tape that will fit nicely in with your collection.

Neunkirchen Audience 8.8 - A large sound, almost feel the sound pressure against your chest on this one! The bass is huge and guitars sit slightly behind creating a sensation of dread, and thankfully the vocals are really placed very nicely in the live sound mix. Definitely the better of the two in this set.
Boblingen 1983 Audience 8.6 The overall sound here is somewhat average but it's actually slightly clearer than the Neunkirchen show albeit more distant and hollow sounding. It really could use some mid-range boost to bring up the guitars but if you have a good system you can attenuate this to dial in your desired EQ. It's not bad, it's just not quite up to prime time and you'll get more satisfaction from the Neunkirchen show in this set.

Stereo Soundboard 9.6 - A fantastic and interesting tape, the live mix sometimes pans in stereo giving it a unique flavor. The drums and keyboards are placed superbly in the mix, vocals very strong, but it does lack some low end, not that it is thin or too bright, that is not the problem here at all it’s just that I think the bass may have been so loud through the P.A. that it didn’t need to pass through the board feed so you do hear it but it’s not super deep. Still, a great one for the collection and certainly if you like hard psychedelic rock but the kicker here is the appearance on 4 tracks by John Cipollina.

Dunstable 1976 Soundboard 9.5 - Every Hawkwind collector surely must have this already in their collection, it’s just too damn good. So few recordings of such an eclectic band, so yeah, this has to be considered a MUST HAVE, and it’s equally cool to find it paired here with another soundboard tape.
Croyden 1977 Soundboard 9.2 -A respectable board tape, the mix does heavily favor guitar, keys are present more during passages where they are supposed to be in the lead. Vocals are out front, also where they need to be. So, it’s a workable mix, not perfect but definitely good for the casual and hard-core fan.

Soundboard 8.8 - This is a soundboard that is not without flaws, not serious flaws, but indeed somewhat noticeable ones. So, it’s one of those mixes where guitar sounds at times amazing, up front, and gloriously loud…and at others it seems like it was ran through an on-board processor of some kind and ends up more compressed and lower in the mix. Rock The Nation is cut at the tail end of Ronnie’s solo, and the drum intro for I Got The Fire begins, so that was a little bit of a jarring edit that could have been smoother. Audience 9.0 - A strong recording from what sounds like the center row, maybe halfway back but not as diffuse as you might think for being in that spot. Yes, maybe the guitar and bass aren’t separated the way you would prefer, but this was the sound of Rush in 2015, and on this show it is Geddy’s vocals that receive the most prominence. Overall it’s a very good recording with atmosphere and power.

Audience 9.1 - What a find! This tape exudes raw power, and hearkens back to the original sound and style of the band much more so than what would be just a year and a half later. Does that mean it’s a raw blues rock show? No, but there is a lot of that here, and more than that it’s the TONE of the band. Gritty, mean, raw but tight…fierce!
