• Excellent Soundboard recording of a highly regarded Texas rock group prominent in the mid '70's. They played an original, hybrid progressive, upbeat hard rock along with more Austin, Texas flavored "Tex-Mex" Southern infused rock and roll...like I said a hybrid style.  Unfortunately it did not take hold anywhere outside of Austin, so it remained undiscovered but certainly in Texas the name is extremely well respected as it should be. Well worth discovering for yourself!
  • Audience 8.8 - Easily one of the best audience recordings of the tour. Very close to the main P.A. system on Tony’s side of the stage, this puts Ozzy a little in the background but not so much he cannot be heard reasonably well. It’s just, well, it’s the sheer POWER on display by the band that makes this one so special and that the recording manages to deliver that without glaring problems (and in 1973, wow!) is a miracle.   • Audience 8.7 - A rip-roaring blast of a tape! First thing you are going to think after maybe 1 minute is how dejected Montrose and Journey must have been after following the ascending Van Halen. Man, I felt bad for them and this show happened decades ago!  It’s just the sonic equivalent of a shooting star, Eddie is blistering and hits every note with perfection, the bass is detailed and not just a booming thud, drums are OK and DLR is a little behind the band but who cares?  The taper did a fine job, some minor hiccups every now and then but thankfully very few to deal with and they don’t last long.   • Audience 8.4 - This tape starts off rough but gradually opens up and ends up quite listenable especially considering this originates from an early tour stop in England 1980. These tapes are few and far between, so grab it is my advice. One thing I noticed, the sound timbre is rather eerie, a spooky kind of effect I can’t explain and it is magnified by the fact that Randy’s guitar is clearest in the mix. I could not help myself while listening to ponder what may have been, such an advanced musical sensibility that would have only gotten better. Sure, he was a great, mad front man in Sabbath, but I really didn’t see him as a solo act. Ozzy always struck me as crazy, fearless, yet almost child-like. He fitted well within the Sabbath context, and as part of a group; but on his own? How wrong I was. Nobody could have predicted just how successful his career would turn out to be. But it was obvious from the first time I saw him in concert and heard him play his new songs that Ozzy was going to be OK, more than OK in fact. The new album had some great tracks in “Crazy Train”, “Goodbye to Romance”, and “Mr. Crowley”, and he included Sabbath favorites “Iron Man”, “Children of the Grave”, and “Paranoid” in the live show, so how could he not be great? Oh, and Randy Rhoads was simply an incredible guitarist, just as good as his legend suggests. The tour called at Newcastle City Hall, Newcastle Mayfair and Sunderland Mayfair.  The line-up of Blizzard of Ozz was Ozzy (of course) on vocals, the late and truly great guitarist Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley (Rainbow) on bass, Lee Kerslake (Uriah Heep) on drums and local lad Don Airey on keyboards (replaced by Lindsey Bridgewater for the tour). Support came from those excellent Welsh rock heroes Budgie.
  • Audience 8.8 - Certainly a decent sounding tape, the band sounds a lot more grunge-like than glam pop here which is a good thing. The PA sound mix is off for a bit, with the Third Eye Girl guitar being buried in favor of Prince’s lead guitar role which hurts the interplay (as in the jam during Let’s Go Crazy) but as it goes they seem to get a little better with that.   • Audience 8.5 - A pretty clear but somewhat distant tape, with Ozzy being front and center followed by Randy and then some tin can drums and little to no real bottom end – but you do hear the notes played which makes this one to investigate as it is not very well known about. As I listen, I think the selling point is indeed how relatively clean and clear it is, a good capture all in all. Drums get a little better… the bottom end remains thin though.   • Audience 8.4 - What saves the recording is the fact that it is clear, like virtually no muddiness, although the sound mix itself lacks definition except for Steven and Joe who are like rays of light peering through your window. The drums are good too, all in all it is hard to say this is not a necessity, it may not be but it’s very interesting and certainly of good enough quality to keep you engaged.   • Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride!   • Audience 8.5 - Here is perhaps one of the best captures from the tour (not quite as good as Oakland or LA but this tape has some real power).  This recording seems to be rather close to the PA, but there’s no distortion. Tape is not overly wide ranging from high to low but there’s plenty of meat and a good amount of dynamics nonetheless. Certainly this is one to get.   • Audience 7.9-8.3 - A tape that starts rough and ends rough but in the middle it is actually not bad. This is a taper that made this an event, the evening was captured with a genuine excitement which is epitomized by the introduction to the show by taper. I love that stuff. I like this tape because I understand now – it transcends the necessity for perfection because it happened in real time for the people who made this tape and there’s a twinkle of magic because you suddenly, for a split second, become them during the show. Not only is it a good board tape, but it specifically showcases Terry’s playing in a way you don’t often get on other tapes of a band with this range of equipment. I swear I can hear the pick on his strings. Damn this is a great show and damn did we lose one hell of a player in Terry Kath.   • Audience 8.4  - I think the draw is, when you are dealing with these old audience tapes that don’t have very wide dynamic range, is that as long as you get a solid guitar, and reasonable vocals, it’s going to appeal to collectors because what they want is the performance mainly – and I tend to agree because this is after all the peak period for the band. You can hear guitar, vocals, and keys in pretty decent clarity and forceful too – I see the value in this recording, a little rough around the edges when band is at full flight due to limitations with the recorder, but let me tell you I hung around, listened to the whole thing, and came away satisfied.   • Soundboard 9.0 - Interesting hearing this line up in such clarity,  it certainly allows you to make a better judgment on the music, which by the way is pretty damn good. It’s different, in some ways, but it is still very good. My advice is not to go into it thinking you are getting Black Sabbath – rather consider it a Tony Iommi side project, then it makes more sense and will grab you in a better way.   • Audience 8.4 - The same taping crew that did the Ozzy Osbourne, and it sounds very similar but maybe a touch clearer. It’s a pretty good effort, especially when you consider the year, and what I mean is that the tape recording equipment used during most of the 80’s did not usually produce anything to write home about.   • Audience 8.3 - One of those tapes that captures the power of the band, but does not deliver crisp definition…that being said, you must listen to this all the way through. It’s been cleaned up as best as could be and it delivers MUCH more audio than it ever did before prior to modern mastering techniques.  A worthy addition to collections. When you arrive to the drum solo section, you will hear what this tape had the potential to present, it sounds great.
