• Soundboard 9.3 - An expertly recorded and mixed show. It’s hard to find anywhere to improve it, but maybe, and I am nitpicking here, but boosting the guitars in the mix a bit (disclaimer: I am a guitarist, I have bias!). Kick Axe Country Club Los Angeles CA 1984-09-17 01 – Alive & Kickin’ (4:10) 02 – On The Road To Rock (4:43) 03 - Vices (4:13) 04 – Just Passin’ Thru (4:56) 05 - Maneater (3:24) 06 – Runnin’ Wild In The Night (3:30) 07 – The Dark Crusade (7:12) 08 – Dreamin’ About You (5:16) 09 – Stay On Top - Drum Solo (6:09) 10 – Heavy Metal Shuffle (3:14) Band: George Criston - vocals Larry Gillstrom- guitar Raymond Arthur Harvey - guitar Victor Langen - bass Brian Gillstrom - drums
  • Studio Rehearsals 8.8 - Thankfully recorded on something other than a cheap boombox so the quality is there as far as being able to hear everything clear. Vocals are the only thing that does not ring out clearly, but other than that this is gold. This early Metallica is a far cry from what would be in just a few short years. METALLICA 1982.03.XX - Downey, CA Rehearsals in Ron McGovney's Garage 1. Hit the Lights 2. Helpless 3. Jump in the Fire 4. Let It Loose 5. Sucking My Love 6. Am I Evil? 7. The Prince 8. Killing Time Released in '94 via a collaboration between KNAC and Ron McGovney, a number of these demos were debuted during the CLASSIC and ORIGINAL Mandatory Metallica show on 105.5 KNAC. They did a whole week with Ron McGovney in the studio and some of these gems were played on the air. Pat O'Connor, one of the DJ's from the Mandatory show, had his hand in putting out numerous Silver Bootleg CD's and promptly released Sucking My Love between '94 and '95 and then released Things That Should Not Be in late '95. Always an interesting listen... they had a long way to go. Lineup: James Hetfield - Vocals (No Guitar) Dave Mustaine - Guitar Ron McGovney - Bass Lars Ulrich - Drums
  • Soundboard 8.7 - This is the kind of soundboard that was probably meant just for soundman audio reference. It’s fine though, and generally speaking, way better than any audience tape because Metallica, especially in 1986 (I know because I saw them in ’86 and it was the loudest concert I’d ever heard) was so loud there wasn’t any way to get a good capture unless you had excellent gear with mic level adjustment. Metallica - Metal, Inc. Live @ The Coliseum, El Paso TX May 12, 1986 1. Master Of Puppets 2. For Whom The Bell Tolls 3. Ride The Lightning 4. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 5. Seek And Destroy 6. Creeping Death 7. Am I Evil? 8. Damage, Inc.
  • Soundboard 9.1 - This is a strong, powerful sounding board with a pretty decent sound mix, although not super clear, but not a muddy mess…somewhere in between the two but leans toward being mostly clear. Metallica Live in Davenport, IA - DEAD HEROES May 30, 1986 Coliseum Ballroom Damage, Inc. Tour 1. Master Of Puppets 2. For Whom The Bell Tolls 3. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 4. • Audience 9.3 - Super tight, clean recording from real close. Obviously a taper who knew what to do, and did it. Excellent! • Studio Quality 9.4 As expected, these are from studios sessions and having been remastered (to freshen the old tapes up), it sounds quite good. The material sounds a bit dated though, I mean I know it is Bowie but it’s probably not his best stuff in my opinion…some people like it though. David Bowie - Sigma Sound 1974   1. Young Americans [first take] 0:20. An incomplete version with no vocal. 2. Young Americans [second take] 2:57. An incomplete version which ends with David laughing after singing “President Nixon.” 3. Young Americans [third take] 5:40. A complete version with slight lyrical differences to the finished version. 4. Shilling The Rubes 5:09. Complete version. Towards the end of the song David says, “That’s going to be very nice when it’s got its hat on!” 5. I’m A Laser (The Gouster) 6:09. Complete version. 6. After Today 4:42. Complete version but played at a much faster tempo than the version released by Ryko in 1989. 7. Sweet Thing 4:43 (Ava Cherry on lead vocals). All tracks recorded on 13 Aug 1974 except track 7 which was recorded on 9 Jul 1974.
  • Audience 8.5 - A somewhat roughed up old tape with some hiss, and audience members who appear on the tape in their excitement (not too bad) but the music is here man, it’s relatively close to the stage and guitar seemed to be a little back behind the rest except when he used the talk box and it was front and center… very strange! Bass is sitting nicely in the mix (not a boomy sound, pretty defined). I enjoyed listening, especially because Joe was really good, he kept me engaged with this one. I found the audience near taper to be interesting and I enjoyed hearing them on the tape believe it or not. It is a real time capsule! So, all in all, I do recommend to fans because how much Joe/Barnstorm is out there anyway? Joe Walsh & Barnstorm Wollman's Rink Central Park, New York, NY August 11, 1973 01 Meadows 02 Midnight Moodies 03 Tend My Garden - Drums 04 Rocky Mountain Way 05 The Bomber 06 Turn to Stone 07 Funk #49 Band line-up Joe Walsh - lead guitar, lead vocals Kenny Passarelli - bass guitar, backing vocals Joe Vitale - drums, percussion, flute, backing vocals Rocke Grace - keyboards (died July 23, 2020) (aged 68)
  • Soundboard 8.8 - A little bit of dust and grease over the old tape but the music comes through relatively unscathed and makes for a great blast from the past. Kiss Long Beach, CA Long Beach Auditorium May 31, 1974 Other act(s): Savoy Brown (HL), Manfred Mann's Earth Band 1. Deuce 2. Nothin' To Lose 3. She 4. Firehouse 5. Strutter 6. 100,000 Years 7. • Audience 8.8 - A good recording that is taken from one side of the stage as you get much more bass presence than guitar which is probably how you would prefer if you are a big fan of Peter Hook – and not surprisingly the bass sounds badass here. Peter Hook's The Light Perform Unknown Pleasures The Music Box Los Angeles 2010-12-11 01. No Love Lost 02. Leaders Of Men 03. Glass 04. Digital 05. Disorder 06. Day Of The Lords 07. Candidate 08. • Soundboard 9.6 - Excellent in every respect, including the fact that there’s some audience bleeding into stage mics which in my opinion immensely help soundboard recordings from becoming too sterile. No chance of that happening here, so what you get is simply wonderful including excellent performances by everyone. Prince Sign O' The Times Live Revamped Sign O' The Times Tour Ahoyhal, Rotterdam, 27th + 28th June 1987 Sportpaleis, Antwerp, 29th June 1987 Paisley Park, Minneapolis, July + August 1987 1. Intro 2. • FM Broadcast 9.4 - This could be considered as one of the best live documents of the band I have ever heard. While there is the faintest amount of FM static in the background during quiet parts, this does not distract in any way the absolute mastery of music that this band delivered. Just stunning, and I can imagine how many young musicians must have been inspired after hearing this band live. Do yourself a favor and grab this, it’s phenomenal. • Audience 9.5 - If the date of this show looks familiar, it’s because she’s opening for Black Sabbath! Now, while this music is a product of its time, it is not to say that it’s not worthy of examination – I’ll be the first to say I love this stuff. First, it’s just kick ass rock and roll, with loads of hooks and even though the majority of the song structures are standard  barre chord blues-based riff rock, they have put enough creativity in them to make you take notice. Ruby is best known for being stage mates with Jim Dandy in Black Oak Arkansas, but whatever she learned from him she has taken very good notes and delivers primo stadium caliber boogie. Great “saucy” voice too! • Audience 9.2 A really nice sound on this tape, really captures the size and feel of the venue and all of the music sits nicely within a warm sound spectrum. • Soundboard 8.7 - The mix here tends to lean on a darker side (meaning more low end but not boomy) with guitar being clear enough but not the prominent instrument which is fine as this is totally all about ensemble and vastly different than anything he was doing with Deep Purple. That in itself makes this kind of odd, if he’s touring with Deep Purple yet managed to play some gigs with other people and sound so totally different musically, it’s really a zig zag routine here as the music is so all over the place in a good way. • FM Broadcast 9.7-  Brilliant sound, and so nice to have this because you get the full on experience with a great band and the great back up vocals of Ruby Starr (I honestly would not have minded at all for her to be the singer and Jim the washboard player and back up singer!). • Studio Quality 9.3 - This seems to be a real early example of the Steve Perry era and as such presents an interesting snapshot of the band in transition…yet still retains most of their fiery 70’s guitar-centric jamming quality. • Soundboard 9.3 - For my first exposure to a live Buzzcocks show, this was a splendid one!  The recording captures the energy and the excellent, gritty, and I would even say cocky guitar tone. • Soundboard 9.5 - A great recording, with an occasional stumble caused by the soundman trying to balance things and tweaking a mic too much getting feedback but thankfully only here and there. Gordon gets a little annoyed at it too, but he’s a real pro and it shows. I get the feeling that although some of his music may have been familiar to some in the audience, he probably did not relate so much to the hippy generation. • Radio Broadcast 8.8 - This tape sounds a bit old and word but the music that it contains is pretty well “out there” and I can only imagine how many trips have been taken with this band playing in the background in the late 60’s. • Audience 9.7 and Soundboard 9.3 - Opening for ELP, this is the short lived Robert Fleischman period just before the arrival of Steve Perry. Hard to find anything about this recording to complain about, it’s amazingly life-like and extremely dynamic – about the only fault is how short it is. Taper arrived late, but makes up for it with a stellar recording. • SDBRD 9.2 - Would be rated even higher but for the fact that vocals are non-existent in this mix. Well, if you care about the lyrics, get a lyric sheet – meanwhile, the music is fine with a guitar clinic being put on by Clapton. Later in the set, the sound switches over to an audience recording (7.2) and the vocals and bass return. The main difference between this one and the one already listed here is that this is just the Tulip Bulb Auction Hall show without additional material (date here is correct) and different, I would say better, artwork.

  • FM Broadcast 8.8 A tape recorded off air sounding its age but surprisingly it’s actually decent enough that fans of this venerable band will rejoice at hearing such an early gig in very good quality. If you compare it to a typical FM broadcast you’ll be less ecstatic, but I tell you this: in the year 1982 there were few bands that could match the intensity and precision of Iron Maiden. This gig highlights that fact, personally I can’t recommend this one highly enough I loved it! IRON MAIDEN The Beast on the Road Tour Pavillon Baltard Nogent-sur-Marne, France March, 24th 1982 01.
