  • Audience 9.1 - Well captured recording that delivers that small venue dynamic, and you get that sense the band is responding to the crowd and elevates just a little more.  It’s hard to believe this was done in the mid 70’s because it sounds like it could have been yesterday. • Amsterdam 1973 Soundboard 8.9 - Nice to have good, clean board tapes of this line up. I think this is his best band, and I think he sounds terrific here. Sheffield 1973 Soundboard 8.9 - Another great board tape featuring Lou’s best band. I love the sound of the band let alone their musicianship. Lou rises to the occasion, he knows he has to deliver or he’ll be overshadowed by these fine players. Thankfully, he actually does! • Audience 8,7 - A distant recording with that unmistakable large stadium natural reverb that makes you sort of imagine where you are as you listen and squint your eyes to see what Lou Reed is doing on stage.  The good news is that everything pretty much is audible, and reasonably clear too. The recording does lack some low end, but is not overly tinny, and drums/vocals are favored in the mix with guitars sort of chiming in just behind. If this wasn’t a clean/clear recording I would say there’s not much use for it but it has redeeming qualities and some charming renditions of some of his most beloved tunes.

  • Soundboard 9.3 - Crisp highs, great mid tones are what define this tape.
  • Audience 9.1 - Clear and sharp, right up close and full of electric atmosphere. Lovely!
  • Soundboard 8.9 - Great performance here, one of the best I have heard quite frankly. Having just ditched the classic line up, you would think a downturn in performance caliber would occur but I do not get that here at all.

  • Soundboard 9.3 - Wonderful guitar tone is the highlight here, the magical guitar interplay throughout. Seriously, it’s as if Lou’s delivery is just a setup for the band to do their thing. One of the best I have heard, right here.
  • Soundboard 8.9 - Gritty tone, I like this grungy guitar sound. Pretty good stuff.
  • Audience 8.1 - I would call this a fine recording, it captures every performer on stage as it happened, although not in the clearest fidelity, but you can really still enjoy this because it is not the kind of problem that distracts. It’s a good, not great, recording.
  • Soundboard 9.2 - The band was really up for this show, it’s pretty hot.
  • Soundboard 9.6 - A tight, expertly mixed board tape. I think how they mic’d this up to include audience was a great idea, it adds so much to this recording. Lou feeds off their excitement. • Audience 8.2 - A somewhat average tape that is brand new to circulation and captures a good time for Lou when he had some great songs and great players with him. Plus side of the recording is that it is low gen and clear enough to hear the band although keyboards are quite behind in the stage mix. Lou is more prominent, with bass and guitar next. Soundboard 8.8 - This tape does not feature the greatest mix ever, but it’s functional and is a good full show.  Question: Was Lou Reed really well known in Australia?  A guy from the barrio of New York City, but well known in Australia somehow?!?!  I think that is strange, haha!
  • Audience 9.3 - A solid recording in a small venue that is very intimate, in fact it sounds like the drums aren’t even going through the mains they sound so natural. Soundboard 9.4 - As can be expected this is professionally done and the source is low gen as it sounds fresh and crisp with minimal tape noise.
  • 2 Shows: CD 1 - Audience 8.3 - A very good, reasonably clear tape that does not showcase a wide dynamic range but doesn’t really need to, I mean to say, it’s an historic artifact that most fans and collectors of Love/Arthur Lee will be very happy to hear. CD 2 - Audience 8.1 - This tape starts off kind of rough but gradually gets better until it gets to a consistency that you can appreciate for what it is. It does not take much of the show before it gets better which is a relief because it is a good, strong show. Disc 3 is a video CD (MP4 file) of 6 minutes, very Rare, never before seen b/w video footage of Love a few days before the show on disc one.
  • CD 1 - London 1975 - Audience 7.2 - Sound is a little muffled but vocals and guitar cut through the murkiness, taper seems to also be moving to find a better spot and sometimes he catches a sweet spot and the sound clears a little. Overall I think fans will appreciate this recording for what it is, a good solid performance. CD 2 - Salisbury 1975 - Audience 8.0 (solid) - Sounds a lot cleaner and brighter than disc 1, so enjoy!
  • Audience 8.0 - Sounds a little subdued, but it’s clear for the most part. Needs a kick in the highs.
  • Pro Studio 9.4 - This supposedly comes from an acetate but it sounds very good, too good to be an acetate but who knows?  Short but sweet, and worth the price to get to hear this collaboration. What could have become of it had it been pursued more at the time. I think it is pretty good stuff, let’s face it, Arthur Lee does sound better vocally than Jimi. Jimi Hendrix with Love & Arthur Lee 'The Blue Thumb Acetate' Olympic Sound Studios, London, England Tuesday March 17th, 1970 01 - The Everlasting First (Take 16) 02 - Easy Rider - Take 1 03 - Easy Rider - Take 2 04 - Loon [An Instrumental Jam]
  • Described as "First Wave Of California Metal" this band was one of the earliest progenitors of the genre. There had to be a first and sometimes that means you end up forgotten while others swoop in behind you. Thankfully this UK label, PROGAOR, has been reissuing a lot of this cool underground stuff. CD is new, never played.
  • Audience 8.8 - Spectacular live presence and good clear vibrant recording.
  • Audience 7.4 - Suffers from large stadium boominess, lack of distinction and separation of instruments. As the show goes on, the ear gets tuned in and you begin to actually kind of get into it. The thing is, it does have a certain “realness” to it.
  • A superbly put together set! Looks positively spectacular. The recordings are all generally pretty decent. CD 1 Audience 7.7 - CD 2 Audience 8.7 - CD 3 Soundboard 9.0 - CD 4 Audience 8.4 - CD 5 Audience 8.4 (these last two discs you MUST turn the volume up loud because the levels are low but the fidelity is decent. The louder the better, and it does NOT distort because there is a ton of headroom here to play with).
