• Audience 9.1 - A very well done audience tape is the source, and the atmospherics are nice and immersive. Sound quality is right in the pocket!  Show was unfortunately cut short due to severe weather, but there’s enough music here to satisfy regardless. • Audience 8.7 - This is definitely the best sounding version of this show. Not bad either – typical of the time period but tapers managed to capture the entire show in pretty good quality.  You can easily forgive some of the minor flaws because that is what they are…minor. A keeper!

  • Norfolk 1972 Audience 8.6 - A rough and tumble tape that surprisingly delivers the sounds you need to be able to hear the band play. The most important thing is this: Mick Taylor is the clearest! You wouldn’t expect that in a million years I know but here it is.

Indianapolis 1972 Audience 8.3 - Low end of the totem pole recording that is represented here because it is perhaps the best source for it. Is there anything salvageable at all?  Yes. It’s distant and not distinct but for completists they will be happy to have the good source and complete their 1972 tour collections.

  • Denver 1983 Soundboard 9.3 - Typical of the sharp and detailed board tapes from this tour.

Detroit 1983 Video source 8.6 - Possibly grabbed off a VHS or some other video source. I cannot confirm this 100% but my ears tell me that is the case here. It is a professional recording with a lot of issues concerning compression and noise – I say it is pro because of the location this is being recorded from which seems definite it is not from the audience.

  • Audience 8.8 - This recording features tons of atmosphere and sometimes struggles over a loud audience. It is, however, very clear, with the majority of the sound mix favoring drums and bass but most prominently, Geddy’s vocals – which is fine – but Alex needs to be LOUDER man!  He’s there, he’s just not up as front here as I would prefer. In my quest to obtain every 2015 recording, I do not decide a preference for which ones I offer as most of them are very good to excellent and this here is no exception. • Audience 8.8 - This is the sound of the 80’s, it wasn’t exactly what you remembered!  I completely missed these guys. I instantly assumed any 80’s band was shite…I was so stuck in my own world of Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Van Halen, Sabbath, Zeppelin….but I should have been more open minded. • Audience 9.5 - A sparkling, vivid recollection of a moment in time when an evening of progressive rock music was being performed by masters of the craft, and it was sublime. • Audience 9.4 - If the house itself sounds great, and your taping with high quality equipment (most likely a small digital unit with a good, dynamic mic and level control), then your result will be something like this. A lot of detail comes through, as does, from time to time, a rowdy audience – that adds to the atmosphere and thankfully never wrecks the audio recording. • Audience 9.3 - A very good tape, with less of the perfect instrumental separation but more of the live power that can be delivered through good house P.A.’s, and as long as taper is not a complete moron and/or using radio shack circa 1985 gear, chances are you’ll end up with a nice recording…as this one is. • Audience 9.1 - Atmospheric, where even if it may be recorded from somewhere in the middle, the immersive experience has been well captured. Vocals sound lush and full, and percussion is crisp and well defined with a nice, rounded bottom end holding it all down. This is a decent recording that allows the listener to imagine where they are sitting and how the event sounded, the actual P.A. sound. • Audience 8.7 - It’s not necessarily a keeper but it is still a very good sounding tape that has maybe a touch more “atmosphere” than your used to. I could hear everything fine, although it isn’t the best in terms of instrument separation – it’s part and parcel sometimes when listening to audience recordings. I still can recommend this one, because it’s good enough that you won’t abandon it and it will sit nicely in your collection. • Audience 8.7 - A good tape, not one that Prince purists might visit often due to how many great soundboards there are but I’ll tell you what, I enjoyed this one. The quality evens out and reveals a tape that may not present a super clear soundfield but it does deliver plenty of realism and vibe. It’s “good enough” to be able to play all the way through and afterwards say “that was a good gig, glad someone recorded it”. Prince Special Invitation Concert Texas Southern University Houston, TX. • Studio Quality 9.7 - Overall the quality is superb, a couple of songs maybe just a couple notches down but none here that is less than excellent. Obviously these versions are not what was on the album but some are pretty close, just some different mixes, maybe alternate guitar workouts and maybe Mick is trying some different vocalizations but it’s still another angle on a great album. Why do all these “modern” era Stones albums seem to age very well. Because they were and are good, fact! • Studio Quality 9.3 - A nice assortment here, I really like the cover songs they played. I saw them a few times back in the day and I always thought they were one of the best representatives of grunge rock. Soundgarden Fresh Deadly Rarities 01. Toy Box - 5:42 02. Heretic - 3:48 03. • Audience 8.4 - Unfortunately this is not the best recording. It’s a big stadium, but the flaws are not the typical big stadium flaws of too far away and echoey, rather a preponderance of bass. At times it lets up though, I mean, the rest of the band comes through (vocals being most audible) and you can hear what is going on but you have to round down some of that bass. A mastering job was done, and a lot of the boom was mitigated, and that is nice because this is the one tour that seems to be lacking in decent recordings (Jazz Tour). I’m thinking this one is for Queen completists, but with such nice artwork accompanying this title it’s worth grabbing if there is a discount going on. • Audience 8.8 - What a cool document this is! It’s basically them in a sound studio doing a video shoot for We Are The Champions and then afterwards performing an entire show. It’s awesome! The band sound great, a very heavy, metallic sound in pretty decent quality thanks to this taper. Queen London, UK New London Theatre October 6, 1977 1. Bob Harris' Speech #1 2.
