    PINK FLOYD – Lyon 1972 (2CD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Audience 8.5 - A loud and brassy sound with a little tiny amount of overload somewhere in the upper mid frequency which, if you were to choose where to have it, would be there. So, that all sounds bad, but not really…this is a very satisfying listening experience because the actual tone and ambience of this recording is amazingly realistic and gives a sense of the venue (which gives a “time-trip” feeling to it). I rather like it a lot.
  • Audience 8.8  - Some people list this as a soundboard, and if you heard the music right off you might think that too, but the audience applause gives it away as an audience tape, albeit a damn fine one. Plenty of atmosphere, and pretty solid dynamics (lush and deep bass, clear guitar, present vocals). Great version of Astronomy Domine (still performed live during the early part of 1970). • Audience 8.7 - Here is a good argument for why we should be open minded towards audience tapes. You NEED some atmosphere! I want to re-experience the show, that means I want to hear it as it happened, not sterilized and filtered. I like board tapes too, but we need a balance. This recording allows me to participate with the audience and be there with them in the moment, and hear the band from out front of the stage. It’s clean, and I hear all the instruments well placed, and reasonably dynamic with just the right amount of headroom so we don’t go pegging the meters. I really like this tape, you will too. • Audience 9.1 - Excellent, though not quite as spectacular as the April 26 show, still you get loads of beautiful atmosphere (or as I like to call it, immersion) and detailed (if a touch loud) sonics. Get it!     (April 27, 1975)
  • Audience 9.4 - Front row seat to a sizzling Pink Floyd concert. Total immersion, 100% satisfaction guaranteed.
  • Audience 8.0  - A very “live” sort of sound, what you might expect to sound like if you were there, albeit with poor seats. Loud, slight echo, a little boominess, but overall I found it to be what I call a decent audience recording. You do adjust to the acoustics, and actually can enjoy this show.
  • Audience 7.8 - The venue had a pool in front of the stage, so it stands to reason audience taping had to be midway back making for a not so great sound quality although listenable (not distorted, not horribly muddled) and historic (a unique venue that played host to top tier artists in their prime).  The tapers sound like a couple of English gents speaking throughout the show in their proper English which makes for a fun commentary of the show…I mean, it’s half the fun of this recording! A neat little piece of rock history here. Not essential, but kinda neat. • Audience 7.6 - Frequency range is not bad, the soundfield is a little narrow and at times the tape source struggles but as it plays it seems to improve and ultimately sounds pretty decent.
  • Audience 9.5 - This recording is special, each instrument occupies its own space and has great depth and tone, especially bass which is woody and precise. This recording showcases one really intrinsically valuable characteristic lacking in soundboards – and that is the sense of time and place, distance and depth. In order to get a good feel of a live concert, you sometimes need to have those elements and this tape has them all. • Audience 7.9 - A somewhat average recording, but collectors will want this for the inclusion of Childhood’s End in the set list. Also it should be noted the lack of 1973 tour recordings compared to the other years. • Audience 7.2 to 7.7 - At times tape sounds muffled, there is some tape hiss, but at times the tape gets better, clearer. I would love to remaster this one! Even so, it’s not terrible.
  • Audience 8.7 - Pieced together from a few different sources, we finally get a pretty good representation of the events of the day which, now together with the rare footage included in this set, reveal a pretty incredible artifact for collectors.
  • Audience 7.8 - Recorded pretty close to the mains, a touch of distortion on some parts, and some tape breaking up due to being overloaded with sound, and vocals a little buried, but even though I can go on with the faults, I found myself sticking with it and I adjusted and I enjoyed this show. Roger is in particularly fine form, really sounds determined on this stage. Tapers talk, tapers cough, but I deal with them, the show sounds incendiary.
  • Audience 8.6 - The best part of this tape to me is the richness of the bottom end, nice and round, deep, very very nice. The rest is good too, just maybe not as articulate as the bass sound, with some audience chatter during the show, and a spacious but not reverb drenched atmosphere. One of the great ones!
  • Audience 8.6 - A strong performance with an especially creepy CWTAE, and the tape showcases all of it clearly, and with power. Very slight bit of breaking up at the most extreme volume but it hangs together, and the quieter parts are sublime with a very clear organ/keys which is nice. A good one!
  • Audience 8.6 - This recording is very warm, although it does not have really defined highs so that may be what keeps this from an excellent rating although I must say it is a great listen, I think most people will really get into this one. • Audience 8.9 - "Atom Heart Mother" Tour.
  • Audience 8.6 - This is an untouched, raw transfer straight from the reels, and as such it will sound like it could be MUCH better sonically with some professional sound re-mastering. Many people will no doubt want to hear it as it was recorded, and it is good, it’s really pretty good, but what I would prefer is a sonic facelift because I think this one really deserves it. It’s still a great show. • Audience 8.8 and Audience 8.9   (old source and new source featured on disc 2)
  • Audience 8.9 - This sounds WAY much better than I remember it sounding, but then I first heard this show about 25 years ago so I guess it’s quite possibly a new source or an amazing remastering. Either way, this is certainly VERY worthy of appearing in your collection as it captures that open air festival vibe, and the band…Gilmour is inspired as his solos pierce the air with ferocity and guile. Bass sounds right on point here, and drums are perfectly balanced and placed in the mix just behind the others so to give those sounds center stage. Keys are much more present during the quieter passages, but they have a nice feel to them. All in all, this is great great great stuff. • Audience 8.2 - This is not the source used on Massed Gadgets, and ranks similar although each source features slight differences which are up to the listener to decide which they prefer. This source has more in the higher frequencies, but consequently slightly more hiss. It’s still very decent.
  • Aud 7.8 - Big hall sound, slight boominess but excellent as far as this kind of recording goes.
  • Audience 8.6 - A clear tape that EXPLODES from your speakers…but maybe because that is because the levels are really hot (but next to no distortion!) and it makes for a ridiculously electric sounding show. It’s like, man, I am here, my ears are melting and my mind is blowing! Way better than the previously circulating high gen tape, this is from the master reels and it shows. PINK FLOYD – Dortmund 1977 (2CD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Audience 8.7 - A decent tape that documents the first show of the ’77 Euro tour. There is a little bit of overcrowding in the mid to upper band, it’s not horrible but it prevents some of the detail in the guitar from being clearly heard. Bass sounds round and brassy, vocals are up front and clear.
  • Audience 8.9 - Clear and plenty of detail here with a few problems showing up only very occasionally. One thing I noticed is there is a bit of what sounds like the music is moving around overhead, what this could be is the quad system and the mic is picking up the sound as it rotates around the venue. Otherwise it’s some kind of phasing but it’s not too annoying, just wish I knew exactly what it was.
  • Brand New unsealed. The 30th Anniversary Edition of the album remix/remaster on SACD.
  • Audience 7.6 - Gets better the louder you play it.
  • Audience 9.4 - Clearly this tape belongs in the tapers hall of fame. So good, you hear every little nuance, I could swear I even hear the breaths taken between verses! Yes, it is that good!
