A limited edition offering from Houston based ShroomAngel Records. This band was one of the "inner loop" bands that began pushing boundaries in the local scene with their hybrid style, born out of two worlds - the growing "grunge" sound pioneered by Janes Addiction (which you can hear in their sound especially vocals) and Mudhoney among others, but also in old guard punk and hard rock, which you also get reminiscences of in their sound. The music even crosses into some psychedelic territory, it's pretty much an amalgamation of several styles that sometimes adds a sort of exotic feel, but with an anxious, almost paranoid underpinning. -
Audience 8.6 - A serviceable recording, it stays sort of in the midrange spectrum but is pretty powerful anyway. I suspect this may be audio that was taken from a video source, but to my ears it sounds better than a typical home video camera audio capture. -
Audience 7.3 - Loud and slightly distorted but pretty dang raucous and for that I like it. -
Audience 7.7 - A little boomy, and that typical 70’s hard rock big hall sound but it ROCKS! It’s decent and a lot of fun. -
Audience 8.9 - You can turn the volume way up and it gets better and better because the wise taper knew what he was doing. The show is incomplete though but you won’t find me complaining. Thankful for what I have, and you will be too! -

Audience 7.3 - Sounds very close to the stage, and the tape machine struggles, but there’s something magical about this one…the band sounds more experimental and “free” to just rock it and jam. There is a palpable energy and the recording does capture that. -

Audience 8.7 - Recorded with reel to reel tape machine, this is actually very good although it begins with some fluctuations as the tapers settle in. They do an admirable job throughout as the tape stabilizes, they comment here and there but keep it to a minimum, as is the crowd noise. So, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable experience, the band sounding like they are not willing to sell out just yet as their set is not necessarily a top 40 showcase which is good actually. Some hits, but a lot of deep and meaningful music. Audience 8.8 - This recording has been attributed to a soundboard radio broadcast but I highly doubt that. For one thing, listen to the vocals, that should be a dead giveaway. That all being said, the recording is very, very good, a little on the bright side but it is still smokin’ hot and not to be missed. -
Audience 8.7 - Believe it or not, few excellent recordings exist of Motley Crue from these early days. This one is actually very decent, with a lot of festival atmosphere, and even though the recording is “distant” it is clear and you get a good round bass, clear and loud guitar, and vocals very clear. Virtually no muck in this tape, you can turn it up loud too because there’s good headroom. At the end of their set, Nikki throws his bass into the crowd and it lands on a fan named Stu Taylor, smashing his glasses and cutting his head open. CD 1 Audience 8.5 - A very good sounding tape here, nothing that annoys the ears, in fact it is clear with a solid impact vocal and smoothly integrated guitar/bass. I did notice some phasing effect but it’s not even a bother at all, in fact in this case it adds some atmospherics. Solid! CD2 Audience 8.7 - Slightly more distant than the previous show but certainly has good clarity, a more even mix as far as the drums being at the same level as guitar, bass, and vocals. It gains points in the overall clarity, sounding like a master was used as there is virtually no tape noise, no mid-band muddiness, really CLEAR! Turn up the volume because it sounds way much better at loud levels. Audience 8.2/Studio 9.5 - OK, what we have here is both a blessing and a curse. How to begin? It’s not the best sounding tape, but, it’s perhaps one of the most important and illuminating tapes to have surfaced in a long time. I’d been collecting Motley Crue for some time (because they have a special place in my early teenage years) and had always thought 1982 was the earliest known recordings. Should this even be in anyone’s collection? Considering the revelation it was to me, hearing them sound so confident and amazing as early as this, yes I think it belongs in every collection. It sounds pretty rough, but not rough enough to dismiss. A LOT of work went into the re-mastering to deliver something that started off unlistenable and now can be considered a “good” audience tape. Small club, loud AF band, sub-par taping gear. Why were tapers there recording at all? Who was Motley Crue in 1981? By the sound of it, they were already hot stuff on the scene. Audience 7.8 - Probably as good as you can get for the tour right now unless and until a Soundboard surfaces. The reality is this is a stadium rock band and the sound is exactly that. Large kick drum, vocals in front, indistinct PA loud guitar and bass, but that being said, this is probably exactly as it sounded at this show. It is enjoyable for what it is. -
Audience 7.5 - Not quite as good as Manchester, some kind of compressed, almost muffled but probably only needs a kick in the highs which you can do on whatever you play it with. There's a little bit of headroom to play with. Not going to blow anyone away but if you've heard any of the other 2015 captures you realize that this and Manchester are the better ones. -

Audience 8.7 - So this is one that fell below the radar but absolutely must be considered by any Crue fan to be one of the best of the best…and technically speaking it should not be. It’s not a board tape, it’s not even the best audience tape out there – but it is one of the best from this tour AND it just friggin’ smokes as far as performance goes. It’s one of the best played shows I have ever heard by them. The atmosphere is electric, the band is feeding off it, and they just deliver one hell of a performance. The tape captures the evening quite well, and you really feel as if you are there. I love that, I want the tape to be clear and I like some dynamics but I also really like a good atmosphere – this just delivers man. Audience 8.3/8.4/8.8 - When listening to the first two discs, it would be easy to dismiss them right away as being inferior, but I encourage the listener to stick with them for a while. The first disc is not bad, the sound is loud and narrow but guitars and vocals are clear and extremely direct! That means you get to actually hear it, and it’s an early period gig in a small venue and these are few and far between. The second disc is a little further from the stage, but I get the music pretty well if somewhat noisily. Here the audio is reasonably balanced too, so drums very much there, as is guitar and vocals. I actually got into it once I adjusted. The third disc is the best of the three, with clarity and balance, and even some dynamic range. You can increase the volume and not damage your ear drums. All three discs are above average performances too, with the third disc being among the very best ever. A worthwhile collection here. This is the band's first platinum award, as they have now sold over a million copies of Shout At The Devil. When Tommy walks into his condo with his gold and platinum awards for the first time after the tour, his girlfriend Candice throws a plate at him smashing the glass frame of his gold award, after she becomes jealous over a photo she found of Tommy with some girl. Nikki takes his awards with him to the island of Nantucket, MA where he plans on meeting some girls, one of them actress Demi Moore who is working on the movie set of One Crazy Summer. Demi also shared a similar childhood to Nikki in many ways, with her father leaving before she was born, then being around drinking, arguing and beatings, and moving home a ridiculous amount of times. She greets Nikki as the prop plane lands, who in a wasted state, falls down the plane's steps onto the tarmac, smashing a bottle of Jack Daniels from his hand while his awards hit him in the head. Having been through Alcoholics Anonymous herself, Demi suggests the program to Nikki, who learns of it for the first time. -
Audience 8.2 and 8.4 - Both recordings, while limited in their own respective ways, are both MUST HAVES for the early Motley Crue collectors because they are pretty listenable, with the nod going to the later show even though it is narrower in its bandwidth (it is, however, much clearer). The ‘81 show is a little cluttered in the center, but has broader range and sounds “hot” so to speak. CD 1 - Reading 1979 – Audience 5.7 - Loud and thundering but lead guitar is heard through the din, and you can kind of hear Lemmy singing, and there’s some drum like noises too. CD 2 Paris 1980 – Aud 6.9 - You can hear the music on this show. There are practically no decent recordings of the early Motorhead, but this one, even though it is bad, is one of the better ones because you can hear the songs, and it is not distorted. The guitar is really pretty clear – and so is Lemmy thank goodness. Oh, they kick ass on this show - Really. -

Audience 8.4 - A little lo-fi here but guitar is up front followed by drums which you can hear well. Some tape hiss present, bass is in a good place not too boomy and complements the guitar sound well. Leslie is playing more fluid here, probably because RCMH is known for good acoustics so he must have had good feedback. Crowd is on his side, he owned New York without a doubt. I feel like this recording would benefit greatly from a good re-mastering, hiss reduction, etc. because it has a decent enough sonic foundation. Audience 8.7 - I gave this a good rating for the combination of very good audience tape with not the best live stage mix (vocals kind of buried), excited audience (but respectful during performance) and a powerful performance (drums are wailing, Leslie is on point).
