• Audience 9.3 - A nicely done job this one. A warm sound, with emphasis on clear and crisp drums, bright vocals, detailed bass, and percussive keys but all in all really I find the sound mix relaxing and I sank right into this recording for the duration. • Audience 9.4 - This is a revelation for me. I was not too familiar with the band and always assumed they were just another “Neo Prog” band from the 80’s. Boy am I wrong! This is KILLER! The audio quality is thankfully excellent and bright so as to capture the insane complexity and brilliance of this band. Sure, there’s going to be obvious attempts to compare them to other bands but to my ears they had something unique going, while also tipping the cap to bands like Marillion, Genesis, and UK. The amount of ideas going on in each song is beyond belief. • Audience 8.7 - I want to rate this higher because of what it represents and what it will do for you, the listener. I want to rate it based on more than just audio fidelity, which in this case is very good for the time, and technically you get everything you need here – excellent separation of instruments, good clarity, good atmosphere…but dynamically it sits in a middle range place and doesn’t offer deep, rich lows or crisp highs and we are spoiled nowadays so we might complain about that but NOT ME! This is KILLER! When was the last time a Queen live recording caused the hairs on the back of your neck to stand up? I can’t adequately express the perfection this performance is, spine-tingling, electric, orgasmic, all of this and more. If listening to this show doesn’t move you, you are dead inside. • Soundboard 9.8 - Sonically this sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Musically it sounds like it was recorded in 1971…which is a very good thing. The guitar tone is infectiously boogie blasted if that makes any sense. The whole thing is like an overamplified revival meeting…in a cool way. • Audience 9.1 -A fantastic tape that gets the right amount of atmosphere to give you a good sense of the moment, the venue, the crowd. The quality of the sound is very clean and punchy although leans toward an upper mid band frequency at the expense of the bottom end. It’s not as full a sound as could have been but it’s an excellent quality of sound nonetheless. The music is very engaging, this is a most welcomed tape. • Audience 9.1 - Very good capture from perhaps a little further back than the much more intimate recording done at the Greek Theatre earlier in the year. • Audience 9.7 - Brilliant recording and an example of what you can do if you have excellent gear, perfect acoustics, and good placement. This version of the Chick Corea 1978 tour does not feature a full band ensemble but rather a more natural, non electrified direction which allows the players to really showcase their talents without much competition for the sound space. • Audience 8.8 - This tape is fascinating! Really gives the listener exactly what they might have experienced attending this concert, a sort of audio time capsule in very good quality but more than that it is LOADED with electric atmosphere. You get a very good sense of time and space. Fantastic! There is one caveat…a microphone drop out does occur towards the end of the show that kind of spoils the flow but it was not something that seemed like taper error so all is forgiven. • Audience 9.1 - A great sounding capture that is just a little further back than the previous night…still it’s really good because the dynamic range is wide and warm. The sound mix itself is not heavy on the guitars here, it’s really Mick and drums followed by the low rumble of the bass. Guitars are here just not the spotlight instrument which in my opinion I prefer them front and center. Alas, I found myself able to appreciate the contributions of everyone else for once. • Audience 9.3 - A sweet recording that is so comfortable to listen to, so easy on the ears with a nice rolling bass and present but not obtrusive drums. Mick is above the fray where he should be and guitars swirl and hum beneath him…excellent! • Audience 9.5 - Brilliant! After sound adjustments the PA system just cranks out the best, clearest sound you could hope for. Almost everything is clear and balanced in the mix, I mean it ain’t perfect (for instance we don’t get the best balance between Keith and Ron) but it’s darn good. The sound mix has nothing to do with how well the audio capture is but it factors slightly in the rating. • Soundboard 8.8 - It’s kind of hard to rate this any higher due to the extreme hotness in the recording levels but it rates as high as it does because it’s unique among board tapes in that Mick Jagger sounds so live and in your face it’s like he’s singing next to you…scary I know. Now, just because this is a “hot” tape doesn’t mean you can’t hear anything, it’s all there but it’s all pretty forcefully delivered. I can’t say in this case it’s entirely a bad thing…’cause it does make for a rather “intimate” encounter with the Stones, especially you know who. • Audience 8.8 - Excellent recording for the time period when it seemed most audience tapes sounded very flat and tinny. This one is pretty dynamic but for one fault (not tapers fault). The PA system, while good, did not give vocals enough clarity. During quieter passages, yes, but in louder parts (most of the gig) it’s sort of indistinct, but audible and not buried (just not real distinct). I mean, he’s totally audible is what I am getting at, but for some reason I can’t make out anything he’s singing about (is this par for the course with Marillion?).  BTW the Genesis comparisons are accurate! • Audience 8.9 - The capture here is as good as you could do, what you are hearing then is what the sound was like in a very literal sense.
