• Soundboard 8.8 - Very cool when you listen to these ’66 shows because to my ears this music really was the heart and soul of the hippie free love movement. Just incredible stuff.
  • Audience 9.3 - The great thing about this performer is that his sound and style is timeless – it might as well be 1976 because after listening to his shows from the 70’s, I can’t tell much difference between then and this 1990 show. The show sounds great, it is rich and full bodied with an especially beautiful drum sound and bass is meaty without being overbearing although it sometimes shakes your speakers!

  • Audience 7.7 - Suffers from a lack of clarity of instruments and a little bit of large hall echo, with bass being in the forefront but not a boomy bass so that is good.
  • Radio Broadcast 8.8 - Very nice, with only maybe a little bit of that typical analog tape compression keeping anything from soaring too high. Anyway, it is delightful and sure to please.
  • Audience 8.6 - A solid large hall recording.
  • Audience 9.2 - A lot of dynamics and presence on this tape.
  • Audience 9.6 - Beautiful recording here! Spacious and accurate, but what I really love is the atmosphere of the Beacon Theatre…always a very respectful but appreciative audience. • Soundboard 9.4 - Minor hiss present in quiet passages but does not impact any music. This is a great show, impressive in every regard especially the incendiary guitar work by unheralded master Daryl Stuermer. Many people were first introduced to Ponty through this album, Imaginary Voyage, and it’s on full display here in a live setting. EXCELLENT!! • Audience 9.5 - Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. The only thing that prevents an even higher rating is some occasional conversation around the taper, not that it ever rises to an infuriating level or anything, but it sometimes calls to your attention. I still can’t figure out the concertgoer who simply cannot focus their attention on the performance they have spent good money on seeing and hearing. • Soundboard 9.4 & Audience 8.6 - the first few discs are excellent soundboard which is cool because they are very early performances and there’s a lot to dive into there. The next couple of discs are good audience tapes, the first being a bit towards the back of a medium sized club, but it’s not bad. Overall it’s an interesting collection, really allows you to contemplate the artists changes over time, with band members, and compositions. Good stuff! • Audience 8.9 - Terrific! A real sonic treat not to be missed.
  • Audience 8.8 - Actually a very good recording but levels are low so turn it up. Once you crank the volume, you will be satisfied to hear that this is a tight and punchy recording.
  • Soundboard 8.9 - A little bit hissy, but it is a board tape so you will be able to enjoy the music….and it is great music! • Audience 8.8 - Spectacular live presence and good clear vibrant recording.
  • Audience 8.1 - This is the new remastered version that does improve upon a decent audience tape. Some tape noise was removed, and mid-high band was enhanced with good results. A good one to have, it’s pretty good.
  • Audience 8.5 - Stomping show by Jeff, as you know he could be quite erratic but I think he nails it here. Good clear sound although not hi fi by any means. Add Equalizer, add low end, but it’s a good clear sound.
  • SDBRD 9.2 - Must be in every fans collection but if it isn’t, go for it because it’s one of the best shows ever!  Disc two is also SDBRD but I rate it a solid 8.9 as it is not as crisp, but it’s still great stuff.
  • Audience 8.3 - Spectacular for such a primitive audience recording Audience 8.5 - Another early gem of a recording. Both have some roughness to them but they shine considering the age. A must!
  • Audience 7.7 - 7.9 - All 3 shows sound like they were done by the same crew. All are decent, nothing spectacular, but consistent and enjoyable without displaying a lot of activity in the upper or lower frequencies. Can be enjoyed is what I am saying.
  • Audience 8.7 - An explosive concert, totally off the chain here. Quality is solid, for the time period especially – a very immediate punch, very lively, lacking all the niceties for sure but you won’t care, believe me.
  • Soundboard 8.9 - Interesting set list here, some material that may be considered “deep cuts” played.
  • Audience 9.5 - Holy Moly this is RED HOT!  The recording is right in your face but not distorted at all. It’s amazing how close this sounds, its super clear too. The only knock I have is that the bottom end is not as beefy as I would prefer. I really wanted more low end punch but if that is the only knock, then you probably should explore this one because not only is it great audio-wise but the playing is off the charts, and I mean seriously Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke are at the absolute peak of Mount Everest here. • Soundboard 9.3 - Very smooth, dynamic, elegant sounding tape here. Just a tiny bit of tape hiss when things are quieter, but this tape is a joy to listen to and the band is just firing on all cylinders. • Audience 8.4 - Captures all the stage action with clarity but maybe not so much of the dynamics, so add just a pinch of your own Equalizer (maybe more bass) it will dramatically improve this already decent recording.
  • Soundboard 9.6 - Crisp and airy, a real sonic delight.

Audience 8.7 - This is from the Royal Albert Hall, so be prepared for a lot of atmospherics as the sound dances around almost right above your head. The music is very present though, so there’s no harm in having some ‘verb which is probably exactly how you would have received the sound at the venue anyway.
  • Audience 8.8 - Clean, good and punchy sound with plenty of hot, live atmosphere. On one or two songs Jeff’s solo gets lost, but it does return thankfully.
  • Audience 8.8 - Very clear and leaning towards the mid and upper frequency bands but not in any kind of detrimental way. Supposedly the original source used is a very rare Japanese bootleg LP and that, with a little work done, presents a fine document we can all enjoy. The Reseda 87 material is soundboard with Mick Jagger fronting, and even though the original source features much more material, that is not technically the “live” gig but rather some studio rehearsals which are not present here.
