• Studio Quality 9.7 - Fantastic all around collection which I would also point to as a good starting point to building up a collection of The Cure music. • Studio 8.8 - This is a band recorded project obviously. Like it was done on a boom box, but a good boom box because you can just tell it was loud in the room and it’s not ideal but it gets the job done. So, it’s a tad overdriven in a good way – raw, and loud, and VAN HALEN in about as real a way as it could be. Very fun to listen to and classic fly on the wall stuff. There is no excuse because you have the best P.A.’s, the best digital recorders, and great microphones. So I want something that gives me a sense of being there and this tape does that. • Audience 8.1 - Yes this is ranked pretty low on the sound quality scale, but it’s not a disaster because this is actually a full point or more better than the previous version of this legendary gig. It’s not unlistenable, and the proof is that you can hear every word Gabriel says during his stories. Extensive work in repairing and remastering this from a 1st generation tape made all the difference. • Audience 8.9 - This sounds WAY much better than I remember it sounding, but then I first heard this show about 25 years ago so I guess it’s quite possibly a new source or an amazing remastering. Either way, this is certainly VERY worthy of appearing in your collection as it captures that open air festival vibe, and the band…Gilmour is inspired as his solos pierce the air with ferocity and guile. Bass sounds right on point here, and drums are perfectly balanced and placed in the mix just behind the others so to give those sounds center stage. Keys are much more present during the quieter passages, but they have a nice feel to them. All in all, this is great great great stuff. • Studio Recording - This is actually a recent album (digital download only) of a band that first formed in Germany in 1969, and I knew absolutely nothing about them. Turns out they are really good! Their stock in trade is playing familiar progressive 70’s rock arrangements with the same vintage equipment used in their 70’s prime, but recording with modern facilities to get a full, powerful sound. I would say mission accomplished because this is quite good, and not only good but the fact that some of their older material is here in a reworked fashion that does it justice...which is kinda rare to find these days. • Soundboard 9.2 - A nice and tight sound with excellent presence and tone on guitar, clear up front vocals, and nice placement of bass and drums just off to one side and behind adding to the stereo effect.  Now, I may be mistaken about this being a board tape or not, for me the audience might be the clue here. I hear them in the background as if they were bleeding into an onstage or close mic from stage front. • Audience 8.9 - One thing for certain, you can’t knock this recording for not having enough wide open and bright atmosphere!  Holy crap it’s got that in spades, at maybe at a little expense of the lower register – although the bass is present in a sort of brassy and sassy kind of way. If you want to hear that guitar detail and don’t mind that the recording favors that sort of mid band/upper high range of sound and less emphasis on deep bottom end (most people would prefer not being overloaded with bass as it tends to muddy the sound) than you will like this a lot. I did not miss having phatness in the bottom end because I cranked up my bass on the EQ and lo-and-behold there was bass! • Soundboard 9.6 - Same exact setup for recording as the Evening show do the review is the same. Killer sound for a heavier rock band because they preserve the tone and the dynamics, it’s not just VOLUME up to 10 although I am pretty certain this show was very loud. • Soundboard 9.8 - Professionally recorded for release, the quality is as defined as you could hope for. Probably had to be somewhat challenging to mix, a band with three back-up singers and a lead singer, violinist, guitar/bass/drums, and keyboards. A lot to manage but an impeccable job for this show.

  • Audience 8.8 - Previously available as a single track, Watcher Of The Skies was merely a taste of a tantalizing recording that has now been painstakingly restored from the original master cassette and it reveals much more than collectors could have imagined. A really good tape it is, with a nice intimate clarity (relative to the overall mix) of vocals, and a satisfying “thwack” of the drums…I found myself mesmerized by this show and especially a sparkling rendition of “Supper’s Ready”.

  • Audience 9.3 - Excellent, clean, and good concert hall vibe on this one. It’s Japan, and the crowd has a penchant to clap during some songs but the recording mitigates it to the point you barely even notice. My guess is that the mics were raised over the crowd in order to achieve that.

  • Audience 8.5 - This is one very loud recording, and while it does not distort, it’s in need of an EQ job to tamper down some of the mid and upper mid to high band just to give it more listenability. As it is, it sounds very much like an early Iron Maiden tape…it just has that quality to it. There are very few live tapes of this outfit, so I take this with a lot of curiosity to hear what these guys were about and can forgive the fact that, while this tape falls below my own threshold of what I can tolerate more than once, it does live up to satisfying my curiosity. I find the band full of promise and potential, and I want to hear more, better quality live tapes but will start with listening to their LP release which I recently obtained.

  • Audience 8.5 - I guess if you want to know what this band was about in their heyday, and if you didn’t mind the fact that one of the few tapes in existence sounded like what your parents thought of your heavy metal noise…this is for you. It’s punkish, it’s brash, it’s snotty, it’s ramshackle, it’s amateur, it’s possibly a glorious mess…and they do Vegetable Man so they get high marks for recognizing what is great and what should be covered (that’s because they don’t have enough profound original music to offer at this stage). So, yeah, I suppose this is worth getting in case you A. want to discover this band and B. want to hear what they were like at the beginning.  OK, last thoughts – want to know what it sounds like when a freight train begins to crash? In slow motion? Very nearby?  Side Note: I liked their song "Taste The Floor" as it reminded me of early Kinks. Plus I could decipher what they were doing...yeah, it was alright.

  • Audience 8.8 - A snapshot from the road during a period that for some reason is largely undocumented. The tape is consistent and good, most listeners will settle into it nicely, but those who prefer the pristine boards or Mike “The Mic” Millard quality tapes may be critical of this one. Personally I found this tape to deliver on the essentials, being that it is clear (a little bit overcrowded in the center channel a bit and maybe not the best instrument separation) and reasonably dynamic enough to hold your attention through the duration.

  • Audience 9.1 - What a find!  This tape exudes raw power, and hearkens back to the original sound and style of the band much more so than what would be just a year and a half later. Does that mean it’s a raw blues rock show?  No, but there is a lot of that here, and more than that it’s the TONE of the band. Gritty, mean, raw but tight…fierce!  The quality of the tape is VERY good…well worth snagging!

  • Soundboard 8.8 - This is a soundboard that is not without flaws, not serious flaws, but indeed somewhat noticeable ones. So, it’s one of those mixes where guitar sounds at times amazing, up front, and gloriously loud…and at others it seems like it was ran through an on-board processor of some kind and ends up more compressed and lower in the mix. Rock The Nation is cut at the tail end of Ronnie’s solo, and the drum intro for I Got The Fire begins, so that was a little bit of a jarring edit that could have been smoother. Overall this is a tape, and show, that will sit nicely in the collection seeing as how there are so few Gamma sdbrds, or live tapes at all.

  • Audience 8.8 - A functional capture, not like maybe the typical Prince stealth recording with the crisp highs and deep lows, punchy middle...this one is the stepchild I suppose where it has everything one step below it's vaunted siblings. Does that mean it is bad? Not at all, it's a fine recording that presents a VERY top form and funky Prince in his element...it's very good but not greatness and I am thankful to have it nonetheless. • Radio Broadcast 8.8 - One thing that I really appreciate about this recording is how you can hear a real separation between bass and guitars. This is not typical of a heavy metal concert recording unless recorded and mixed for a specific purpose, such as a broadcast. So, while the sound itself might tend to be on the "brassier" side - it's not a knock...it's a way of trying to describe how there's plenty of bass but not necessarily in the form of that typical metal low end boomy sludge sound. It's got definition and I like that.
