• Audience 8.3 - Limitations with the microphone is probably what prevents this recording from blossoming as it sometimes seems like it wants to do. You can hear it, for instance, during some of the passages, but I think the overloading of the bass crowds out the guitar a bit too much (although you can hear guitar, just not in a clear and detailed manner). Drums and keyboards dominate with a very insistent, pulsing bass undercurrent throughout. Does that count this out?  Not at all, due to the disparity of live BJH recordings, I think this one is worth exploring. The compositions and playing make up for the limitations on the tape.   • Audience  8.6 - Because it is primarily a keyboard dominated group, the audio rings out pretty clear to where you hear everything well. It is somewhat compressed though, with a low ceiling where the slightest bit of audio break-up is occurring (so do not crank this one up). It is a decent recording despite the limitations.  
  • Audience 8.8 - This is the sound of the 80’s, it wasn’t exactly what you remembered!  I completely missed these guys. I instantly assumed any 80’s band was shite…I was so stuck in my own world of Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Van Halen, Sabbath, Zeppelin….but I should have been more open minded.   • Soundboard 8.8 - The mix gets a little cluttered up at times, guitars being rather hot in this mix but I guess that is what you would prefer.   • Audience  8.4 - It’s good sound for the most part but I find it on the thin side, and there’s a rather narrow sound field giving it a mono quality (it may not be mono but it sounds mono). The second show is an FM broadcast 8.8

  • All video in this collection is pro shot. Disc 1 is all excellent quality. Disc 2 is more uneven, all watchable but not as crisp and perfect as the first disc.
  • Audience 8.6 - This is a guitar-fest right here, the sound mix allows Jeff’s sound to cut through the bass which, if you have been collecting much BBA, you know bass is almost always WAY too loud!  Well, it is understandable I guess, but this show features a more democratic mix and you will REALLY enjoy it for that reason alone. Besides for that, it’s a good show, the band sounds like they might not be beating the shit out of each other backstage…ahem.
  • Audience  8.6 - A solid job here, with perhaps a touch of boominess in the bass along with hall reverb but surprisingly none on drums or guitar. My guess is that Tim was using a reverb on his bass. Not bad, just loses some clarity and separation with that “wet” bass sound.  
  • Audience 8.4 - Somewhat one-dimensional and a touch thin but it’s pretty darn clear, with a pronounced emphasis on guitar (cool!).  Historically I guess you place this high on the priority list as it is their last show, but as a collector you get it because it’s one of the better sounding recordings.
  • Audience  8.4 - Pretty Solid sound, if a tiny but on the thin side.  
  • Audience 8.4 and Audience 8.2 - Both performances showcase a confident Jeff Beck, but in terms of sound quality the London show is clearer and bass has less boom so you can really dial in to the playing. The Manchester show is not that bad but it is a bit murkier, slightly more dynamic in the vocal dept. and I think the London show edges it out in performance quality as well. Doesn’t mean you will ignore it, just that you will favor the London gig, in fact the London show is a real contender to be in all Jeff Beck fans’ collections. Beck, Bogert, & Appice ....   • Audience 8.8 - This is an interesting recording because while the guitar is very close and defined, the rest of the band is kind of floating above you. It’s as if the taper’s mic was placed in front of Jeff’s guitar cab and at the same time he was able to capture the rest of the sound through the main P.A. so it’s kind of strange.   • Audience 7.8 -  Not bad as far as overall clarity but certainly lacking in depth and could really use a remastering which would help immensely. The sounds are there, there is some slight tape noise, but the music is all there and this show can be enjoyed…just add some boost in the lows and mids perhaps.
  • Audience  8.9 - One of the best of the tour!  
  • Audience 7.0 - A noisy tape, hissy and in need of some kind of NR. That being said, if you like a massively loud sounding tape this is your choice.  
  • Audience 7.6 - At times the recording is very good, but when they are at full volume it gets a little crowded. There’s some good kinetic energy here, and it seems they do not hate each other yet. Oh well.  
  • Audience  8.8 - A very solid capture with everything sort of right in front of you and very clear. I consider this one not to miss if you are into Jeff Beck, it’s very satisfying  
  • Audience  7.3 - Crowded and noisy with a touch of distortion but with all of that I can hear everything. This has big stadium sound, a touch boomy, now Jeff does shine through here so it is worth it. Vocals are also present.  
  • Audience 8.7 - This tape was made in an old Victorian styled theatre with what I imagine had to be decent acoustics but it all depends on where you sit and what kind of gear you use. This taper probably did not have the best at his disposal but he/she did an admiral job nonetheless. I can hear almost everything, sans the detail, and so I am able to get a good idea of what the Bee Gee’s were about before their superstardom. For one thing, you will notice right away the lack of ARP synthesizers!  Yep, these are real strings folks…wowsers!   • Soundboard 9.8 - Do not right Billy Idol off as some curiosity of the 80’s .... I mean, listen to this and tell me this guy is not a bona fide singer-writer-performer in any decade. He’s a pro and he can work an audience.
  • Pro  9.4 - A noisy audience that effects the beginnings of every song, but they thankfully subside about 10-15 seconds in – otherwise I would have given this a 9.8 because its that good!
  • Soundboard 9.0 - Both sets are pro radio broadcasts with the S.F. set only suffering from a slight imbalance in the mix where the vocals are way up front but it’s just as well since Billy is the show anyway.
  • Pro Soundboard  9.7 - A superb document in every sense. Perfect recording, splendid performance, and fine songs.
  • Boston 1981 FM Broadcast 9.0 This is not bad, I detected maybe a little trace of signal interference but not enough to destroy this audio. It may be kind of like a background “fuzziness” or something but I find this to be a very good representation especially being a crowd that knows the music and the band very well. I think the band responds and delivers an exceptional performance. San Francisco 1981 FM Broadcast 9.4 Very strong in every category, a recording with depth and a band that delivers the goods. London 1981 Audience 8.8 A decent tape with maybe a little “crunchiness” to it but overall it rates well and can be thoroughly enjoyed.     Audience 8.8 - A solid and punchy recording that delivers bass and vocals in super detail. Drums come through real nice too, guitars and keys, while not as up front in this mix are still present in a stereo pan where they sit nicely because it gives the recording a balance. It’s easy on the ears and maybe more accurately replicates what you would have been hearing had you been sitting in the tapers seats.
  • Audience  9.1 - Lively and bright, and super clear with nice headroom that allows the sound to breath. Highly enjoyable!
