Audience 8.7 - I can imagine the difficulty in trying to capture something like this with all of the challenges not least of which is sheer volume and venues not ideal for the kind of acoustics metal presents. Does that mean this recording is bad? No, it's obviously done on gear that can handle the job, but to my ears it's something that you will need at least two songs to adjust, but once you do, it becomes the kind of tape that finds you sort of hanging on to see what happens next. Audience 8.8 - I give this recording high marks for being one of the good ones, and you know how important any live recording with Randy Rhoades is so instantly when you hear this, and your ears go "wow, cool", well that means we have something special. Now, it does take a song or so to get balanced, maybe that is the taper and maybe that is the house, either way it is typical of an old audience tape to start a little rough but settle in as it goes. I am not saying this is super-duper, but when you have at least a very listenable tape, where you can clearly hear Randy and Ozzy, maybe a tiny bit of overload here but it doesn't matter - my ears don't lie and I felt this one delivered the goods. Audience 8.7 - This could also get a few tenths of a point up for the careful re-mastering that recently was applied to the old tape. It definitely needed a refresh, and it got one and it is way the better for it. The highlight for me is that Randy's guitar is the clearest instrument, followed by Ozzy and the others all decently placed in the soundfield with the only knock being the overall clarity and dynamics. That being said, this is a great recording for the time period, knowing how precious few great sounding Blizzard tour tapes there are. I have to rank this in the top 5 I think, because the guitar is so good (you get the tone, and a great sense of the spirit of the room and the band). This was ripped from a vinyl source and consequently some artifacts are present although minimized. I am inclined to believe some of this is a live in studio recording (listen to "I'm On Fire For You Baby" and tell me that is from the same concert). Audience 8.8 - A good early period show when he was probably in the UK for the first go-round. He made the most of it, with some BBC appearances and a huge gig at Reading which went off well. The recording here is very good, a little hissy and maybe not as clear as we would prefer but it has balls, and everyone is pretty distinct in the mix. Audience 8.8 - Loud keyboards and vocals, great drum sound at the large outdoor arena in Long Beach. Audience 8.4 - A muddier sound, not nearly as distinct as the Long Beach show but due to the scarcity of live Giuffria shows I would say this deserves your attention. The Houston Punk/Grunge rock scene of the late 80's and early 90's produced a very diverse and highly talented assortment of bands spawned inside the 610 Loop surrounding the downtown metroplex. Chief among those was a ferocious punk rock (or better, "Burly Pig Rock") band called SPUNK. Fronted by Tod Waters, a mercurial character with non-stop energy, talent, and bravado who to this day still creates dynamic rock and roll (as evidenced by the newest release of his current band DIE FAST). This new release features a pair of never before available soundboard recordings from the downstairs room at the legendary Fitzgerald's Club. -
Hard rock group from Houston active during the mid 70's and were primarily known as a covers band, playing many of the well known clubs in town. They recorded a handful of original songs in 1975, and disbanded following some unfortunate incidents while on the road. A single 7" record was released, however, and gained enough traction that rhythm guitarist Jimmy Lee Dean decided to continue on and recruit new members (the era known as Jeremiah MK II). This version of the band recorded a full length LP which never saw the light of day as the manager absconded with the master reels soon after the sessions, and nobody heard from him since. Eventually, we rediscovered these masters and attempted to transfer them in the studio but the tapes had severely degraded, the material, such as it is, is also contained on this collection. A 40th Anniversary reunion concert occurred in 2014, and excerpts from that show are included on the 2nd disc. All known recordings of this band are included in this package. -
From the ashes of the Moving Sidewalks, former members Tom Moore and Dan Mitchell decided to carry on playing the blues once Billy Gibbons formed ZZ Top and was doing straight up Texas style blues rock. Featuring Hammond B3 organ, the band had a different approach to blues rock but executed with the same kind of unique Texas panache. A single 7" was released but the band recorded quite a bit of material which never saw the light of day. This CD gathers most of those recordings along with a disc full of rare live tracks, of which include Ottis Coleman (Honest John, 1900 Storm, Texas Blend) replacing Tom Moore and Dusty Wakeman (bass) who also happened to be in The Barons and engineered the Honest John album in 1975. -
The twins Mark and Clark Seymour (and a third brother on Moog and assorted keys) have a very long history in music. They may be little known to the general public, but once upon a time they were "the next big thing"...until loads of cocaine, unscrupulous industry execs, and bad decisions got the better of them. The story is a long one so no way to repeat it here, suffice it to say this was a band that could have given Queen a run for their money. Carnegie were at their prime during the years 1977 and 1978, with demo recordings, record contracts, shows, and even occasional TV appearances -- this 2CD set gives you a rare glimpse into what could have, what should have been. -

Dallas based Christian proto-metal band that recorded loads of material and performed live but never actually released anything to the public. Two discs worth of master quality studio demos, and live, tracks. Very competent band that were obviously heavily influenced by the NWOBHM groups especially Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and maybe a healthy dose of classics like Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash with the dual guitar action a lot of the songs feature. Top shelf! -
Shotgun were a 1970s rock band from Dallas. The band consisted of Guy Houston on drums, Hugh Coleman on bass, John Michael Soria on lead guitar, Russ Skarsten on keyboards, and Billy Metcalf on lead vocals. The band's 1976 album, recorded but never released, Dallasian Rock was remastered and reissued by ShroomAngel Records, in 2014. Reviewing the album for seaoftranquility.org, Pete Pardo awarded the album five stars and said: "This is incredible material that should have been huge back in the day, and the amazing thing is it still sounds fresh and exciting here in 2014. The ShroomAngel team have done a wonderful job on the remastering, so be prepared for a killer listening experience." -

Audience 7.9/Soundboard 8.8 - A rough and tumble recording for a rough and tumble show. Quite frankly, it’s a perfect match, but obviously when the soundboard portions kick in it is a relief to the ears. The audience tape is one of the better sounding ones of the tour – we’ve all heard the dismal sounding ones and this is by far better. The video footage gives you more appreciation for the tapers efforts, because it just looks like it would have been a miracle to have produced anything remarkable in that venue. My hats off to the tapers!
