• 8.8 - 9.0 - Absolutely enjoyable, excellent recording of a band at the PEAK of their mighty powers, a set list that will blow your mind, a performance that rocks the house...any questions?
  • Audience 7.6 - A valiant capture by the intrepid taper, really has a good feel of the venue but the sound itself is kind of in a strange spot in the spectrum. Still it’s good, but you want it to “move” more to the middle, can’t explain it any other way.
  • Audience 7.8 - As with most Hawkwind early 70’s aud tapes, it’s a little cluttered being they played so loud but guitars and vocals are prominent in the mix and that REALLY sets this tape above 95% of the others.
  • CD 1 - Audience 8.4 - A real treat, since there are so few good live Hawkwind recordings out there. CD 2 - Audience 7.4 - But all instruments can be heard if a touch lo-fi, and slightly crunchy, it’s still decent for the era and chosen for inclusion on this set because it is listenable compares to some of the other 1977 shows.
  • Audience 6.3 - Loud, echoey, boomy
  • Soundboard 8.6 - A strange mix that seems to leave out any bass, although I can hear the bass notes somewhere, I think. Still, it is a recording that you have to appreciate in that it’s reasonably clear which is hard to come by with this very densely layered sound.
  • The Glasgow Apollo - Soundboard 9.2
  • Dunstable 1976 Soundboard 9.5 - Every Hawkwind collector surely must have this already in their collection, it’s just too damn good. So few recordings of such an eclectic band, so yeah, this has to be considered a MUST HAVE, and it’s equally cool to find it paired here with another soundboard tape.

Croyden 1977 Soundboard 9.2 -A respectable board tape, the mix does heavily favor guitar, keys are present more during passages where they are supposed to be in the lead. Vocals are out front, also where they need to be. So, it’s a workable mix, not perfect but definitely good for the casual and hard-core fan.

  • Formed in 1972, Hands were originally called Ibis, and then a series of name changes which eventually led to Prism, which they were widely known as, until things got serious. With the production of high quality studio demos, they were forced to change names again, this time for good - with the name HANDS.  These early recordings capture them at a time before the studio quality demos, when they were still working small clubs and colleges and playing a lot of covers (albeit very interesting ones).
  • This is the first release on the Shroom Productions record label begun in 1995. It consisted of tracks mostly from Hands 1977 January Sound recording sessions in Dallas, TX.   The CD was put together from that plus an assortment of other tracks because, at the time, it was not known if there would be another Hands CD, we just did not know what the demand would be. Well, some 3000 copies later, and there is STILL demand for this great music. Numerous reviews and consistently high ratings give praise to this band and this CD in particular. Discover them if you have not heard any of their music, I mean, if you love bands like Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Kansas, Yes, Camel, Happy The Man, Gryphon, Greenslade, UK, or PFM.
  • The second CD released by the ShroomAngel label featuring vintage Hands studio recordings. These recordings make up what would have been the bands 2nd LP and date mainly from 1980. This is officially reissued by ShroomAngel Records.
  • Released in 2002 on the ShroomAngel Records label, this has been officially reissued in this format.  This studio album marked 25 years of the bands existence (hence the title).
  • Radio Broadcast 9.4 - Smooth and crisp with great bass definition and spot on drum mix. Pretty much a must have.
  • Soundboard 9.5 - Outstanding pre-FM source material that showcases one of the top shelf “Krautrock” bands of the early 70’s.
  • Pro 9.3 - Sonically superior but the truth is it all depends on what you want out of the live mix. I think its fine myself but some may have opted for more up front vocals. Overall it is quite good.
  • Audience 8.7 - A little squashed with guitar kind of low, vocals not bad, drums and bass OK although there’s no great separation of instruments. The good news is the louder you get the better this sounds, strange I know. The show itself? Good rock and roll, what else can you say about these guys?
  • Soundboard 9.5 - Two tapes have surfaced and both are very strong. The tapes are so good they should be officially released. A good one, rare and certainly worth the time and effort. • Soundboard 9.4 - Includes an intermission Audience source. Do you know your Krautrock then? If so, than you may not want to pass on this one. A rare show, a strange show, a wild night. Excellent document complete with loads of photos, and excellent sdbrd audio.
  • Soundboard 9.4 - Professionally mixed, and it shows.
  • Audience 9.0 - The recording levels are a bit low, but there’s plenty enough headroom in the recording to allow max volume and it sounds killer.
  • Osaka 2019 SDBRD 9.4  - This is how you do it if you want to become rock stars. I don’t mean the performance, I mean record yourself and let the tape out so you get bootlegged. Anyway, it’s Led Zeppelin 2.0 for the uninitiated.
  • Soundboard 9.8 - Simply fantastic! A MUST!!!!
  • The 2017 show is an Audience 8.7 - Decent but not showing a lot of dynamics  /  The 2018 show is Soundboard 9.4 and the star of this set.
  • Audience 7.4 - For the first half of the show containing the Edgar Winter and Leon Russell sets, and 8.2 for the duration, which is cool because now you have a complete picture of the entire evening, start to finish, which you rarely find. As the tape progresses, rather than diminish, it brightens and opens up for pretty much the entire Gregg Allman set. Not that it is horrible, just that it occupies a mid range bandwidth without straying into too many dynamics. Tape does not distort, and does not peak, so what you get is a consistent capture that gets progressively better as the evening wears on. This tape has never been heard prior to the release of this set.
  • Audience 8.8 - Very bright recording, the bottom end is there and it has good detail but could be a little deeper. That being said, if you want to hear the combination of solid, hard rock guitar paired with Greg Lake’s proggy and sometimes jazzy keyboards well, this is about as good as that combination can ever sound. It works actually, quite well. The good thing about this recording being on the bright side is that the guitars and keys are especially clear. • Audience 8.8 - Truly a marvel, you get three blockbuster acts performing outdoors at a large German Rock Festival in 1974 and you are sitting there listening to something that was probably forgotten within days by everyone as they smoke, drank, and partied until the cows came home in preparation for the next festival that came to town. What I am really saying is that while the band members and audiences probably cannot recall what they did on September 27th, 1974, we can now relive that very day in the lives of all of those people because taper managed to capture everything while sitting in a decent spot and running decent gear. Why he/she did this I do not know but I certainly appreciate their efforts not taking it for granted one bit. The music here sounds good to my ears, very comfortable even if not very distinct in the mid band (where guitars reside) but more than made up for with a beautiful round bass sound and good vocals and highs. • Soundboard 9.5 - What a tour-de-force this show is! Long considered by Deadheads as being the pinnacle shows of the entire 72 tour, the “Texas Swing” stand of shows (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston) just present so much incredible music and vibe that it’s hard to believe your ears. Let me put it this way – if the psychedelic pop music of the 60’s is like a tic tac, than songs like Black Throated Wind or The Other One are Porterhouse steaks! • Audience 7.4 - Supremely loud! Only by turning down the dial on the very crisp highs (as in cymbal crashes) will you get something discernible in this noisy wall of sonic mayhem. However, it is clear enough to enjoy nonetheless.
