CD 1 Audience 8.8 - A very good, bright, well balanced recording. Most welcomed because for me, it’s this time period (actually 1970-73) of the band I like the most. CD 2 Audience 8.1 - A somewhat flat, and a little bit muffled recording. I can still hear everything, it lacks dynamic range, but I did not find it annoyingly so, just when compared to disc 1 this one sounds lifeless. Aud 8.3 - Surprisingly clear, at full volume there’s maybe some crowding as drums fight for attention in the mix, but basically what you have here is a great idea of what an early 70’s GG concert would have sounded like. Realistic, and the band is just so good, more rocking and less quirky maybe. -

Audience 7.5 - A tape that struggles to get better, like you keep expecting it to suddenly open up because it isn’t bad once the taper gets his levels set. It maybe hovers too close to the bottom, but you get the sounds of everything on stage, maybe vocals a little behind the mix but so what? It’s Gentle Giant, you want the music parts mainly. I think fans can appreciate this early gig. -
Audience 9.0 - This band is certainly an acquired taste for many, but every ear can agree to the quality of this recording. Airy but right there in a very comfortable mid range with very detailed high end and a smooth, round bass. Terrific! -
Audience 8.8 - Previously available as a single track, Watcher Of The Skies was merely a taste of a tantalizing recording that has now been painstakingly restored from the original master cassette and it reveals much more than collectors could have imagined. Audience 8.4 - Certainly a keeper here, a well recorded, and clean tape of the fledgling Genesis touring behind their first LP. Fascinating document! -

Soundboard 9.8 - A soundboard that captures lightning in a bottle! So it’s near perfect in balance, and nicely widen open in dynamics while at the same time leaving intact some of the open stadium atmospherics (most notable in between songs or during announcements). Either way you slice it this is a truly great recording and performance that every collector would want in the collection. Santa Monica 1974 Audience 8.7 - A tape that takes a song to balance out and adjust but once it gets going is quite good. Some signs of age, but it has held up reasonably well and makes a nice addition to any collection. Be aware there is a tape situation during Dancing With The Moonlit Knight where the sound phases back and forth across the speakers, sounding as if the show was in quadraphonic, and the tape machine struggled but it lasts only a couple of minutes. Not a complete show, we only have 47 minutes but it’s better to have this than nothing at all. Quebec City 1974 Audience 8.9 - A very clear and strong tape that does take a minute to settle in, with tapers carrying on occasionally but eventually chilling out…they don’t annoy too much thank goodness! The performance here is stellar, the audience very responsive. A memorable evening. Audience 8.7 - This recording has an overall decent quality to it but somewhere in the mid frequency band there is a small amount of clutter that seems to be more noticeable when heavy bass is played. Otherwise the audio can be remarkably clear, but I don’t think this slight flaw (probably in the mic that was used) ruins the recording; it’s not “glaring”, just there. Re-mastering the audio helped to notch out the offending frequency making it a lot better, so go for it, it’s pretty good. Audience 9.3 - A very wide and airy recording that you instantly know the second you hear it that taper is no noob, this is a pro job and stands up to scrutiny well. I could not find that much to complain about except maybe it’s just a tad back in the seats but that just allows for more air and atmospherics which are all here and well captured. Audience 8.8 - A very nice effort, sounds like the taper had pretty good gear. I hear a little bit of distortion in a very specific place in the middle band, not anything to ruin the experience but it is present and sounds like someone made an effort to clean it up in remastering. This is a worthwhile listen. Audience 8.5 - Tape is a little hissy, but it is still a clear recording where you hear a lot of separation between instruments and “air” or “headroom” which allows music a chance to unfold and show peaks and valleys. Very good, not great, but very good. -
Audience 8.4 - One of the better early Italian shows, bass maybe pushing hard, but it’s clear and energetic. Lovely stuff! -
Soundboard 8.8 - A fine performance of The Lamb here, sound quality is very good and mix is very good. You can enjoy this one, more than once! -
Soundboard 9.4 - This is not a pure board and by that I mean it sounds like some of the instruments are not direct patches through the board onto the tape. It sounds like a hybrid where some of it is a direct feed and some of it is mic’d up. You can tell it is something like that when listening to the difference between the keyboards and vocals, and drums (especially the kick). Either way it’s great. Various Sources 9.0 - I give this a high rating for many reasons, as it can be easily assumed that the sound quality will vary being a compilation. The producers were smart to put it together this way, I found it to play much like a legitimate record company release. The worst of the recordings is in itself not even that bad, in the context you are hearing it in, it takes on new significance. I myself did not realize how few times some of these songs were played live, so having a collection like this makes sense. I enjoyed it immensely. So will you. Audience 7.3 - Distant and narrow, but seems like a good mastering can fix some of the limitations. Needs a stereo widening and some punch in the mids and highs. -
Audience 9.4 - I rate this one very high because not only does it capture the performance in solid detail, but it also manages to capture that indefinable thing called vibe. This show has major vibe. Get it! -
Soundboard 9.3 - Not a pure board, there is some ambiance mixed in from the audience. I think this was a broadcast, it’s quite good! -

Audience 7.7 - A real “middle of the crowd” recording. You get to eavesdrop on some conversations while Genesis perform their hits. Now, I will say this, there’s a lot of music to sink into here, it’s not THAT bad really. Give it a chance. -
Audience 8.4 - This tape was made by a very sincere taper, you can clearly tell the person tried very hard to make it work. I think, if I had to guess, the problem was not him, it was more than likely improper microphone type and simple passage of time, because this is a clear and strong tape that falls a little short in some aspects making it a little above average where it could have been amazing. The tape struggles through The Lamia, where you get the effects of age and degradation. The audio quality suffers a little bit because of distance, and that robs some dynamics and clarity, but here’s the thing: The equipment was good quality and that comes through as you do get a certain realism, a sense of the venue and atmosphere that the open mic captures. The stereo field on this tape is pretty wide, so my guess is that microphones were hoisted above the audience somewhere middle of the arena. I think I like this tape in some regards, and I definitely do not consider it rubbish and neither will you. One last thought – I found this recording did slowly improve as the show progressed, perhaps dipping a bit at the end of disc one but not catastrophically. Audience 7.6 - This tape is very clear but has low levels and is somewhat narrow in bandwidth. By turning the volume up, and adding some personal touches on EQ you can lift the experience to a little higher level. -
Soundboard 9.1 - Technically sounds good, bright, crisp and all that, but I am not in love with the overall sound mix. It’s serviceable though. -
Audience 8.5 - Starts off a little funky as the taper gets in position but slowly develops into a very good and clear recording for the duration. The audience is golden, very respectful and this makes for a better overall experience too. -
Audience 9.0 - Tape starts off funky, but quickly gets sorted and becomes quite excellent. Clear, with some nice atmosphere and decent dynamics (not overwhelming but nice). A warm sound, with emphasis on clear and crisp drums, bright vocals, detailed bass, and percussive keys but all in all really I find the sound mix relaxing and I sank right into this recording for the duration. Audience 7.6 - Has a kind of thin quality to it even though you can hear everything on stage. Sounds like it needs a nice big punch in the middle, someone needs to remaster this one. Not crappy, just needs a mastering job. -
Audience 7.7 - A wide stereo feel, a touch of that large hall sound, pretty clear with a decent mix. Some audience chatter. -
Audience 8.7 - A surprisingly decent tape surfaces from Italy where Genesis found initial acceptance in the early part of their career. Sound is clear for the most part, and the timbre is pleasing to the ear…if I can knock it I would say maybe it is a bit compressed in the middle, so no crispness in the highs nor definition in the low end but it’s not the kind of compression that you get from, say, a video tape. It’s quite good like I said so feel secure if you get it knowing it will be worthwhile.
