Audience 8.6 - It sounds like this tape has gone through a lot of mastering trying to find a way to mitigate it's flaws, and by some extent I would say it was successful...but at the cost of taking out some of the good aspects of the EQ. What I mean to say is that if they had not taken the effort, you would be listening to a lot of screechiness, it is evident that this tape had overloaded high end. Now that some of the offending frequencies have been removed, it is much more listenable and can actually be enjoyed once your ears settle in to the odd mix. Not one of the best, but neither is it garbage and the fact of the matter is that we don't have an abundance of tapes from Stryper's first tour. Audience 9.4 - I think these recordings accurately translate the exact feel and sound in the venue, which is a great thing because this is the kind of emotional performance that only Prince could elicit...what I mean is, it's just him playing the piano and singing and yet it is mesmerizing, electrifying, and sometimes melancholy in a good way.

Audience 9.4 - Having listened very critically to this performance, I offer the following conclusion: BRILLIANCE. Simply put, this is a mature John McLaughlin leading an ensemble through a series of confident, muscular, thought-provoking pieces of jazz-rock music that goes into many more places than the old band ever did. Does that mean it's all fire and speed? No, it's really not, although there are places where it is appropriate and the band goes there...with the utmost confidence. Bravo to John McLaughlin for knowing the strengths of his band and really allowing all of them to shine. Very mature and a positive outcome was the result. Great recording too! Audience 8.5 - I guess if you want to know what this band was about in their heyday, and if you didn’t mind the fact that one of the few tapes in existence sounded like what your parents thought of your heavy metal noise…this is for you. It’s punkish, it’s brash, it’s snotty, it’s ramshackle, it’s amateur, it’s possibly a glorious mess…and they do Vegetable Man so they get high marks for recognizing what is great and what should be covered (that’s because they don’t have enough profound original music to offer at this stage). So, yeah, I suppose this is worth getting in case you A. want to discover this band and B. want to hear what they were like at the beginning. OK, last thoughts – want to know what it sounds like when a freight train begins to crash? In slow motion? Very nearby? Side Note: I liked their song "Taste The Floor" as it reminded me of early Kinks. Studio Recording - This is actually a recent album (digital download only) of a band that first formed in Germany in 1969, and I knew absolutely nothing about them. Turns out they are really good! Their stock in trade is playing familiar progressive 70’s rock arrangements with the same vintage equipment used in their 70’s prime, but recording with modern facilities to get a full, powerful sound. I would say mission accomplished because this is quite good, and not only good but the fact that some of their older material is here in a reworked fashion that does it justice...which is kinda rare to find these days. Los Angeles 1984 Soundboard 9.7 - A great one here! Crisp sounding and a beautiful mix especially how the drums sound and all the vocals even backing vocals are clearly audible. Worcester 1984 Audience 8.8 - This is not a bad tape, but it is not recorded close to the mains so it does sound somewhat distant. The music is clear and not muddy but lacks that depth your ears crave. What it does highlight is the vocals which really project, keyboards sound comparatively good too, and the recording does improve somewhat throughout the performance sounding a little fuller as it goes along. Again, not a bad one and worthy of your time but on this 2 show set (From One End To The Other) the LA show is the better by far. Soundboard 9.8 - A soundboard that captures lightning in a bottle! So it’s near perfect in balance, and nicely widen open in dynamics while at the same time leaving intact some of the open stadium atmospherics (most notable in between songs or during announcements). Either way you slice it this is a truly great recording and performance that every collector would want in the collection. Studio 10 - Well, this is a rarity! Not only has this flown completely below most collectors radars, but it also qualifies as being a perfect recording…and it doesn’t necessarily begin as such (although I’d still rate it a 9.8), it becomes one. Why is that? Because it has all the elements of greatness and not just the audio quality. Eric is heard here in a more jazzy setting, with players who are well versed in music theory and are top shelf players in their own right – maybe it pushes Clapton to explore more deeply, and he does…although he still manages to make it more bluesy which to me is really cool because it gives these sessions the swing that can be sometimes absent in technical jazz. This obviously was let out on purpose, the recordings are too clean and if indeed they are rehearsals, they are very dialed in and sounding more like an album is being recorded. But if you listen super closely, there are moments where you can just hear the faintest of mic bleed through and it seems to be the kind of talk, or “shouts” that you might hear during a soundcheck or rehearsal. Studio 9.0-9.4 - Varies as far as the overall sound and mix but does not stray much below a solid 9.0…but man what you are getting here is bona fide Aerosmith and NOT the dressed up, slicked out, packaged presentation of Aerosmith that the record company needed in order to make vast profits. This is down and dirty, raw, primal, and above all – fantastic! To hear unadulterated guitars, guttural, almost fuzz style bass, and howling, tortured Steven, and this is 1987 mind you! How can it be? I don’t know but this set rocks! Audience 9.3 - One thing you must concede about recordings from this venue – they are almost 100% of the time decent overall but more importantly extremely pleasant atmospherically. Audiences here are generally very attuned to the performer on stage, knowing the music, and there to listen to the music. The Roxy was a venue for music connoisseurs. A brilliant tape here to add to your collection.

“Audience” studio 8.7 An amateur recording it might be, but like any rock and roll band in rehearsals you probably weren’t too worried about doing professional recordings. They were not exactly shiny and perfect here, getting ready for a tour, so yeah I understand the nature of the tapes and I still like it. Some tape hiss, some lo-fi moments but all in all fascinating fly-on-the-wall stuff. See Artwork for Track Listings (sorry I didn't feel like typing it all out!) -
Audience 9.5 - A lot of audience periphery (shouting and bustling) but nonetheless it’s a crystal clean and very dynamic recording. The energy is palpable and comes right out pretty much all the way through as the audience is very responsive and Prince most definitely fed off it. Guitar tone is perfection – vocals very nicely placed in the mix as is everything really. Great, great stuff!
Audience 9.3 - The ’92 Aftershow is equally excellent with just slight differences in tone and distance to come second place to the Bataclan show.
Pro 9.3 – The radio broadcasts here are great and as you would expect, since they are professionally recorded, but honestly I still prefer the Bataclan audience tape which says an awful lot about what a good job taper did on that.
Audience 8.8 - The final disc contains London ’99 audience tape which is the weakest of this set but still decent enough to enjoy. Sounds somewhat distant (not in the stadium sense but small venue distant).

Soundboard 9.3 - There are moments in this recording that you swear it has to be one of Prince’s best ever – what got him so pumped up for this gig? Maybe he was pumped for every gig but slightly more at certain gigs. I don’t know but this one got me pumped as well! Love the energy and fluid playing.

Soundboard 8.8 - A dated sounding board tape, yes it is good but I can see how there are limitations with board tapes just as there are with audience tapes. Pro 9.6 -An obviously professionally recorded show, this will certainly provide the listener with a lot to love although I still like more atmosphere on a live recording than what is contained herein.
