Audience 8.5/8.7 - Both tapes are not well known, and are pre-Close To The Edge making them quite interesting to the fans of early period Yes. Both tapes sound pretty good, with the nod going to Tucson for just that little bit of clarity it has overall. There’s enough dynamics, atmosphere, and clarity to allow the listener to settle in to each show and appreciate the details (great ripping Hammond work by Wakeman throughout). Good to have these shows in the collection. Audience 9.7 - Opening for ELP, this is the short lived Robert Fleischman period just before the arrival of Steve Perry. Hard to find anything about this recording to complain about, it’s amazingly life-like and extremely dynamic – about the only fault is how short it is. Taper arrived late, but makes up for it with a stellar recording. Audience 8.6 - A clear tape, possibly a master source, that presents a very nice performance by the band with a tape that gives you a reasonable recollection of the evening. The tape leans towards a high end propensity while sacrificing any deep lows but I am 100% sure you will LOVE this one because it’s just one of those tapes that seems to get better, the ears adjust, and before you know it you are saying “damn this is pretty good”…because it actually is. As Pretty Woman ends (and there’s a moment in the song where Dave lets loose on some dingus that threw something at him) and it goes into Eddie’s solo, man, this tape TAKES OFF and becomes an easy 9.3 rating. Audience 8.6 - Very low gen (no noise) recording that is leaning much more towards the bright side, perhaps even a little bit crispy but a recording like this can be tuned to your liking. What prevents a recording from having any chance at all is muddiness, and thankfully there is no muddy quality to this tape. All in all, I have to rate this as a show that one notices first the performance (from the opening notes you know it is going to be a good one), and the ears do adjust to the concert hall sound very soon, notwithstanding the EXTREMELY excited audience…like, throughout the entire show. Can’t blame ‘em I guess, but damn let the band play! Audience 8.6 - Taped by the same person using the same gear so there is only minor differences between these shows which are related specifically to position, and it sounds like taper was in roughly the same general position for each show. Very consistent throughout, although just to be super detailed I have to prefer the second show which seems to be slightly closer to my ears. The quality is very clear, leans towards the upper end of the sound spectrum but not too harsh, only to the point I think you could add some bass and that would really allow these shows to satisfy. They are all very good, bass would put them into the great category. Audience 8.4 and Audience 8.2 - Both performances showcase a confident Jeff Beck, but in terms of sound quality the London show is clearer and bass has less boom so you can really dial in to the playing. The Manchester show is not that bad but it is a bit murkier, slightly more dynamic in the vocal dept. and I think the London show edges it out in performance quality as well. Doesn’t mean you will ignore it, just that you will favor the London gig, in fact the London show is a real contender to be in all Jeff Beck fans’ collections. Beck, Bogert, & Appice .... Audience 8.7 - A very good tape, with brightness and decent clarity, although maybe slightly crunchy at the very top of the high end (cymbals) but not too much. It does lack just a bit of mid band warmth and punch, but once you get about 10 minutes in, you will adjust and realize it’s pretty good, especially for those with EQ’s in their system because then you can round it off a little. This is the complete show from a radio programme called "We're Going Out Tonight" with no radio DJ talking over the music or tuning. Very likely recorded before being broadcast on the radio. Of special note is Florian's use of the Votrax VS-6 "Talking Typewriter" as Karl put it in his memoir for "Die Sonne, Der Mond, Die Sterne." -

Audience 8.8 - Very bright recording, the bottom end is there and it has good detail but could be a little deeper. That being said, if you want to hear the combination of solid, hard rock guitar paired with Greg Lake’s proggy and sometimes jazzy keyboards well, this is about as good as that combination can ever sound. It works actually, quite well. The good thing about this recording being on the bright side is that the guitars and keys are especially clear. Soundboard 9.4 - Yes it is CDB but it’s also a whole lot more. Since 1974 they hosted the Volunteer Jam and invited their friends and fellow “southern” rock bands including this legendary get together (famous for being the first on-stage appearance of Lynyrd Skynyrd after the plane crash). Sound is taken from what sounds like a couple of different sources but it’s all consistently great. January 13, 1979 Volunteer Jam V was held at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN. This Jam marked the return of Lynyrd Skynyrd to the stage for the first time since the '77 plane crash, and the CDB gave the first live performance of a song that would catapult the band to superstardom, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Special guests also included Toy Caldwell and George McCorkle from the Marshall Tucker Band, Dobie Gray, The Winters Brothers Band, The Henry Paul Band, Link Wray, John Prine,Papa John Creach, Carl Perkins, and Jim Owen. Audience 8.0 - You are probably wondering why I am including low rated recordings here, especially Kiss…well you may have a point but here’s the thing: This site is for ALL collectors, and the reason this show is listed here is because it circulated for years in unlistenable quality (below 7.0), but thanks to modern technology it is now listenable. It’s from perhaps one of their best tours, musically speaking, and needed an upgrade so bad! So, for the casual fan I would say pass, but for the Kiss collector who knows how bad this show sounded and wants to throw away that old CD, I would recommend this 2020 re-master. Still kind of rough but there is now music here instead of an insufferable wall of distortion. I am not 100% sure but I think the big thing about this show among collectors was the inclusion of the song “Move On” to the set list, perhaps only performed this one time.
