• Audience 9.4 - Almost sounds like a radio broadcast, and you’d be forgiven for insisting it is such, but to me it sounds like a good transfer from vinyl of a great audience recording, with some artifacts occasionally (like momentary drop-outs). The track listing on the cover differs slightly from the disc tracking but whatever was recorded by this source is present and accounted for. Other sources exist, and are inferior, so no patching was done to fill out anything missing. Seems like a complete show, maybe one song missing?

  • Audience 9.4  (both shows) - Expertly recorded from optimal position with high end gear. Clear and nuanced, with some headroom allowing for the atmosphere of the event to add another dimension to the sonically excellent captures.
  • FM Broadcast 9.6 - The one show to get if you are looking to add the Roger Waters KAOS tour to your collection. Spotless! • Audience 8.9 - Most of the recent tour recordings are excellent and all offer something different for the ears in terms of atmosphere, intensity, and clarity. This one I find has less of an emphasis on separation of instruments and more on depth of bass and overall sound. The guitar comes right at you, and the bass is nicely anchoring the bottom, drums are not as clear but still nicely placed. So, overall I like what this recording delivers.
  • Audience 9.3 - Another spectacular capture that presents a detailed soundfield and plenty of atmosphere to sink yourself into the show as if you were there. Excellent!

    ROKY ERICKSON – Baton Rouge 1982 (2DVD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Rare footage shot with Sony open reel video system (CV-2000 tape format B/W). Entire performance spanning 2 discs (encoded for optimal quality). This comes from the 3/4" Umatic master tapes (CV-2000 reels transferred onto 3/4"). Quality is fair, poor lighting hampered the video shoot, but for historical purposes most fans will find this fascinating due to the exceptional performance of the band and Roky in particular.

  • Soundboard 8.8 - This is more than likely exactly what you would have heard had you bought this comp back in the 80’s. It has remained true to the original 1972 US Tour boot, which as you know gathers the soundboards from the tour and compiles them in such a way so as to present a dream set list (no song duplication). Sourced from a variety of shows, this is basically a road tape for lack of a better description. The Rolling Stones North American Tour Summer 1972 Tracks recorded at Vancouver, Houston, Ft. • Soundboard 9.1 - In this recording, what you will notice right away is the massive sound that they dialed in for Charlie…very different but I like it!  The rest is OK, not as full bodied as I’d prefer it to be but it gets the job done. The Rolling Stones 1989 Tour Rehearsals Sullivan Stadium Foxboro, MA. 08-29-1989 Disc 1: 01-Start Me Up 02-Bitch 03-Shattered 04-Sad Sad Sad 05-Undercover of the Night 06-Harlem Shuffle 07-Miss You 08-Tumbling Dice 09-Ruby Tuesday 10-Play With Fire 11-Dead Flowers 12-One Hit (to the Body) 13-Mixed Emotions 14-Honky Tonk Woman 15-Rock and a Hard Place Disc 2: 01-Midnight Rambler 02-Can't Always Get What You Want 03-Little Red Rooster 04-Before They Make Me Run 05-Happy 06-Paint it Black 07-2000 Light Years From Home 08-Sympathy for the Devil 09-Gimme Shelter 10-It's Only Rock and Roll 11-Brown Sugar 12-Satisfaction 13-Jumpin' Jack Flash
  • Audience 8.7 - I rate this as very good and it is, but a typical review might not explain what makes it so very good. It’s not the greatest live mix or sound, but it’s a tape that delivers real magic despite itself. The Mick’s (both of ‘em) are the highlight, both are more prominent and both are on top of their game. ROLLING STONES Rubber Bowl AKRON, OH. 7-11-1972 01. -Brown Sugar 02. -Bitch 03. -Rocks Off 04. -Gimme Shelter 05. -Happy 06. -Tumbling Dice 07. -Love In Vain 08. -Sweet Virginia 09. -You Can't Always Get What You Want 10. -All Down The Line 11. -Midnight Rambler 12. -Bye Bye Johnny 13. -Rip This Joint 14. -Jumpin' Jack Flash 15. -Street Fighting Man
  • Audience 7.2 - When it comes to The Stones, you can’t deny that ’69 to ’72 is where you need to focus. That’s how it is with me, and therefore ANY tape that comes along from that time period, I want it. So I wasn’t completely disappointed with this audience tape, even with its obvious limitations.
  • Pro 9.7 - There are loads of Rolling Stones studio session tapes out there but the year of 1982 for some reason has not been well documented…until now. Two discs full of sparkling outtakes, jams, seldom heard songs and more. It’s really great, I got totally into it from the first track. The Rolling Stones ALL MIXED UP 1982 Studio Sessions Disc 1 01. • Audience 8.5 - an interesting tape, sometimes flawed but quickly recovering. It’s an old tape after all, and I am glad someone dug it out of their shoebox and made it available. The stadium PA systems all have funny mixes sometimes, with how things are panned, etc. etc. and this one is no exception. I get more of the synthesizers and a very articulated bass which is actually very cool because normally Bill is just a rumble. ROLLING STONES ATLANTA,GA. • Radio Broadcast 8.0 - Not a vibrant, clear document but the amazing thing is that you can hear the band playing over the crowd! That was not typically the case around this time. Stuff like this is important when put into its proper context, this is the birth of modern rock and roll actually. • Audience 8.1 - In the pantheon of ’69 Stones audience tapes, this one ranks as one of the more listenable ones. The recorder levels are low, so some tape hiss comes up at volume, but it is relatively clear, no murkiness (which historically is a sound killer), and you actually distinguish very well the two distinct guitars (but still sometimes can’t tell where Taylor ends and Keith begins (which is kind of what they strove for anyway). Rolling Stones Baltimore Civic Centre November 26th 1969 Set List 01.-Jumping Jack Flash 02.-Carol 03.-Sympathy For The Devil - Hey Jude 04.-Under My Thumb - I'm Free 05.-Midnight Rambler 06.-Live With Me 07.-Satisfaction 08.-Honky Tonk Woman
  • Audience 8.5 - Should be a higher rating but for the mastering where the mids are so hot. Put this through your Equalizer and bring the mid band down a little bit and you have a very strong recording. The highs are insane, not screechy just detailed, and the low is present, so just fiddle with the mids because it’s just too hot there.
  • Audience 8.7 - Easily one of the best recordings of the 1970 Euro tour. Mick and Keith really project, the sound is forceful, and even though you do get the rest of the band (and yes, Mick Taylor for sure), they are playing second fiddle to the Glimmer Twins. • Audience 8.2 - From tape source not LP, this recording has some tape hiss present, but it’s not overwhelming the music. Music sometimes seems a little muddy but then clears up a little then returns to a little muddy. It’s not bad though, it’s much better than most of the multi gen STP tour audience tapes out there. • Studio Quality 8.8-9.4 None of this is bad, however there is going to be some hiss on some tracks but it’s not annoying at all. • Studio Quality 9.7 - Overall the quality is superb, a couple of songs maybe just a couple notches down but none here that is less than excellent. Obviously these versions are not what was on the album but some are pretty close, just some different mixes, maybe alternate guitar workouts and maybe Mick is trying some different vocalizations but it’s still another angle on a great album. Why do all these “modern” era Stones albums seem to age very well. Because they were and are good, fact! • Audience 7.9-8.3 - A tape that starts rough and ends rough but in the middle it is actually not bad. This is a taper that made this an event, the evening was captured with a genuine excitement which is epitomized by the introduction to the show by taper. I love that stuff. I like this tape because I understand now – it transcends the necessity for perfection because it happened in real time for the people who made this tape and there’s a twinkle of magic because you suddenly, for a split second, become them during the show. I can’t really explain it, but something happened while listening that made me understand what I was listening to beyond a rating. Make sense? THE ROLLING STONES Boston Garden Boston MA. • Audience 8.8 - Back in the cassette tape trading days, many tapes would be passed around containing the Mick Taylor period and those were the ones I most gravitated towards. A lot of those shows I have never listened to again since the cassette days for fear they would still sound so weak…but this one has blown me away, literally. It is not the old multi-gen, hissy and muddy clusterphuck like so many of those audience recordings were, this one is really pretty friggin’ good. Not perfect, but VERY damn good. • Audience 8.7 - This recording sounds like what I always imagined a Stones concert from 1975 would sound like…raw, dirty, and dangerous. How can anyone not like this kind of stuff?  It’s just the coolest, really, sitting here and reliving these times. The Stones captured the times in their sound, and their energy is so damn cool, so funky, bluesy, the Stones are rock and roll. The Rolling Stones Rich Stadium, Buffalo, NY. August 8. 1975. CD 1: 1. • Audience 8.0 – 8.5 This is one of those “right in the thick of it” tapes. Immersed into the crowd, you become part of the experience of the concert along with the tapers themselves. Is that good or bad?  In this case it starts off a little shaky and gets better, and better, as the show progresses until at the end you realize you had a great time. • Miami 2019 Audience 8.8 - Tremendous atmosphere while retaining good and clear sound. It’s understandable being that the band plays enormous stadiums that you may have problems getting a solid capture, but provided that you aren’t in the nose bleeds, and your gear is decent, you can really get something worthwhile on tape with PA systems being so good. This is one such job. Charlie’s last gig with The Stones, and thankfully a good capture of the event. St. Louis 2021 Audience 9.2 - This one is right in the pocket!  Solid low end, with some genuine gut punching drums and bass without being boomy at all.  Vocals, nicely positioned in the mix, and both guitars are clear.  Really I have to say this is a joy to listen to and doesn’t have to be a soundboard to qualify. • Audience 8.7 - This is definitely the best sounding version of this show. Not bad either – typical of the time period but tapers managed to capture the entire show in pretty good quality.  You can easily forgive some of the minor flaws because that is what they are…minor. A keeper!

  • Audience 9.0 - I have rated this highly because it transcends the boring sameness of most modern aud recordings and sounds more like a 70’s boot! I can’t explain it really. It’s just, to me, the Stones should always sound like the Cleveland 1978 bootleg LP which really sort of sums up the Stones for me.
  • Soundboard 9.2 - What I like most about this board tape is that it emphasizes Bill Wyman, and I mean where you can hear individual notes that he is playing, while also laying down a strong, sonically speaking, low end (so it’s not just bass notes being plucked out).  This is a new, and good way to listen to another ’81 Tour board tape without being bored…’cause we all know the set list didn’t change at all.

  • Audience 7.9/Soundboard 8.8 - A rough and tumble recording for a rough and tumble show. Quite frankly, it’s a perfect match, but obviously when the soundboard portions kick in it is a relief to the ears. The audience tape is one of the better sounding ones of the tour – we’ve all heard the dismal sounding ones and this is by far better. The video footage gives you more appreciation for the tapers efforts, because it just looks like it would have been a miracle to have produced anything remarkable in that venue. My hats off to the tapers! • Audience 8.6 - A kind of bumpy ride at times, being immersed in the middle of a rowdy audience, but the music comes through surprisingly well for such a massive cataclysm it must have been! It’s kind of fun, it’s a time capsule, and as long as I can hear the music in a clear way, even if it is not “hi-fi”, it’s fine by me. This is a low gen tape and clear enough for its purpose, but yeah, you are in the middle of the action quite literally. ROLLING STONES Cobo Arena Detroit MI. • Studio Quality 9.6 - Make no mistake, as I once did, that just because this was the Stones entering the era of “disco” and experimentation, it is very much a bona fide Rolling Stones album and these sessions prove that they still jammed old school on every song. It’s an eye opener for me, when I hear the musicianship across a lot of songs I dismissed early on or never properly examined, I have new appreciation for the Emotional Rescue album and that period of the band. • Audience 8.8 - A nice surprise this one – I was much more familiar with a tape from a later show during this run, but this one sounds lively and clear as a bell. It has a great live atmosphere which for me is a huge plus, so long as it is not boomy or has too much big hall “verb” and this one has the perfect amount of everything good. Lovely! • Soundboard 9.0 - A classic old board from the fantastic 1976 European tour which has brought us a few amazing live works by this venerable band. • Soundboard 8.8 - It’s kind of hard to rate this any higher due to the extreme hotness in the recording levels but it rates as high as it does because it’s unique among board tapes in that Mick Jagger sounds so live and in your face it’s like he’s singing next to you…scary I know. Now, just because this is a “hot” tape doesn’t mean you can’t hear anything, it’s all there but it’s all pretty forcefully delivered. I can’t say in this case it’s entirely a bad thing…’cause it does make for a rather “intimate” encounter with the Stones, especially you know who.
