Winterland 73 Audience 8.7 - A huge sounding recording that also features as an exciting part of the show the rapturous applause by an adoring audience after each song. The music is very lively and upbeat, the sound is very good, a lot of atmosphere. Audience 9.0 - Great document! Live, exciting, forceful and driving. This is a great find! It does have the tell-tale audience tape feel but for how well the bass sounds because if it was done on cassette, it had to be a professional deck, so I am inclined to believe this was done on reel to reel. Soundboard 9.7 - Both shows are superb soundboard recordings featuring a band really at the peak of their powers. I think once Lotus came out, everything had really become solid and a little experimental perhaps but ultimately incredible. Soundboard 9.7 - Crisp and absolutely clear with tremendous separation of instruments. I did not find this cold or sterile at all, I thought it was mixed so well that plenty of feeling and texture is within these sacred frequencies. I guess I have to admit that the 1980 Tour was not a sellout, maybe a branching out but still very worthy of a true fan's admiration.GENESIS Forum de Montréal Montreal, Quebec 19th June 1980 Disc 1 01. Audience 8.8 - Loud keyboards and vocals, great drum sound at the large outdoor arena in Long Beach. Audience 8.4 - A muddier sound, not nearly as distinct as the Long Beach show but due to the scarcity of live Giuffria shows I would say this deserves your attention. Audience 8.8 - A good early period show when he was probably in the UK for the first go-round. He made the most of it, with some BBC appearances and a huge gig at Reading which went off well. The recording here is very good, a little hissy and maybe not as clear as we would prefer but it has balls, and everyone is pretty distinct in the mix. Audience 9.5 - Recently re-mastered and never sounding better, this old tape is full of life. The sound is bold, and really the only things keeping it from being even higher on the ratings scale is just some minor dtuff. I sometimes hear tape slippage or squeal but it's barely noticeable and infrequent, and there are some other small issues that occasionally pop up but since the sound is so great you just don't even notice any flaws. Audience 8.7 - Better than average, the tape has dynamics to it and even if vocals sound somewhat distant, the bass and guitar have a nice attack with the low end having that chest pounding quality which adds a lot to the electrifying atmospherics. Rory is particularly savage, playing what is probably a really wild crowd since it is where he is from. The performance is worth the entrance fee, the sound quality is good enough to warrant extended engagement. Full disclosure: There is some tape hiss present although it only becomes obvious when the band is not playing.RORY GALLAGHER Rory's Stompin' Grounds National Stadium Dublin, Ireland December 28, 1978 Disc 1 1. Audience 8.5 - A slighly better than average tape with a lot of live atmosphere, and I don't know how large this hall was but it doesn't feel very large in the recording. Everything is very clear and good separation of instruments too, it can use just a touch more dynamic but otherwise it's strong. He's playing for his people, so you know you are gonna get his best stuff, and this is top shelf (with the crowd understandably right there for every call and response. Audience 8.7 - Sounds like 1977, very dated but it's a very clear tape. Doesn't stray too much into the low end of the sound pool, but neither is it a "thin to win" tape. It's a mid range sound, a good one, but kind of narrow in some regards, almost like a REALLY good AM radio sound. I like it nonetheless.Weather Report Kursaal Bern, Switzerland September 26, 19771. Soundboard 9.7 - Amazing! Progressive rock played at a super high level infusing all kinds of rhythms and styles. A great sound mix, you hear every instrument well-balanced but some juicy, punchy bass at the low end really sets this one on a great path to your eardrums.Mutantes Live at Teatro de Arena Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil Jun 6 1978 Disc 1 01 - Arena - Ando Meio Desligado 02 - Panis Et Circense - Falsifiquei A Sua Caderneta 03 - Frutificar 04 - Semente da Paixão 05 - Aurora Boreal 06 - Mensageiro da Ladeira (Pororoca) 07 - Gênesis Disc 2 01 - Amanhecer 02 - Paranóia 03 - Te Encontrar 04 - Cidadão da Terra 05 - Magia e Coração 06 - De Que Vale Meu Rock'n'Roll 07 - Rock'n'Roll City Line-up: Sérgio Dias: vocal & guitars Ruy Motta: drums, percussion & backing vocals Luciano Alves: keyboards Fernando Gama: bass, vocals Eunice Matos: backing vocals -
Audience 9.1 - Nothing to complain about here, the bass is clear and not boomy, guitars maybe not as up front and defined as you would prefer (the benefit of a soundboard tape) but it's present and fine for all intents and purposes. A good show, and good atmosphere - my verdict is that this would be a fine representation of the tour if you were to turn on a person not familiar with the band.Rush 1st Mariner Arena Baltimore, Maryland, USA Friday, April 22, 2011 Time Machine Tour 2011 Disc 1 101. Audience 8.8 - Both shows here have the same dynamic - Massive volume! Now, here's the rub: the recordings are blast furnaces of rock and roll but NOT distorted beyond just the tiniest amount of crunch on the fringe of the upper-middle band. That means you get raw power as opposed to earschplittenloudenboomer,if you catch my drift. It's just a well recorded RAWK show at high volume and intensity...as it should be.

Ohio - Soundboard 9.8 - Excellent live sound, vibrant and alive! Sounds like yesterday. Davis - Audience 8.8 - Mid size hall acoustics but a good, clear tape that probably sounds a lot like what the show actually sounded like. Taper occasionally stops machine just before some songs end (possibly trying to save tape) but the overall job done here is admirable for its stability. The liveness of the tape gives an excitement factor to the show, that counts for something too when rating a tape. New York - Soundboard 9.7 - Professionally recorded and it is obvious this could have been meant for a release or at the very least a broadcast, since most Bottom Line shows were broadcast I would say this sounds like a pre-broadcast reel. Amazing!

Audience 9.4 - A smooth and comfortable sound, obviously taper running great mics and in a relatively decent position. The mix favors vocals and there's a great kick drum presence that propels the music. Guitars seem to hover overhead, not bombastic but rather more subdued but not absent by any means. Audience members are occasionally heard nearby, and that reminds you that you are hearing a stealth recording albeit one done with semi-pro gear. RCMH - Audience 8.9 - A nice atmosphere, even though it is a large hall there is a charming warmth here. Natalie's vocals carry very well, she is prominent in the mix. There is some background audience chatter occasionally that adds an element of immediacy without being a distraction. I don't usually condone chatter near the taper but the taper has done a great job with this "immersive" situation and I rather like it. Pier 84 - Audience 9.1/SDBRD 9.3 - Very similar to the RCMH show but more clarity in the high end, and slightly better separation of instruments. This is a VERY good recording that will provide many enjoyable moments for the listener. Then after the 1st song it switches to soundboard source (radio broadcast I believe) and it is good, solid, punchy, but not quite as atmospheric as the previous source which was really quite good too. 10,000 Maniacs New York Maniacs 88-89 Disc 1 Radio City Music Hall New York City, NY. 06-29-1989 1. Professionally recorded, vinyl source 9.4 - Exceptional. If you are listening for the musicianship than you will love it. This was ripped from a vinyl source and consequently some artifacts are present although minimized. I am inclined to believe some of this is a live in studio recording (listen to "I'm On Fire For You Baby" and tell me that is from the same concert). Audience 9.2 - Crisp, and a little brassy, but exceptionally "live", the music MOVES in and through, a great tape! I felt the 70's vibes all over the place. Studio 9.4 - GREAT stuff here, sure to please the most jaded of Stones collectors who haven't heard anything in a long time that hearkens back to the glory days The Rolling Stones at their studio best. Studio 9.8 - As expected, near perfect quality. The mix is a bit different to the album we all know and love, but not enough to change the total badassery of the tones, complexity, inventiveness, and composition. Just a great artifact to get a slightly altered perspective. Megadeth Peace Sells...But Who's Mixing? Alternate mixes 1. Wake Up Dead 2. The Conjuring 3. Peace Sells 4. Devil's Island 5. Motorhead Live in Lisboa! Right on the first song the band sent the power down! The played too loud – too fuckin loud that the made the life of the soundboard guys a nightmare! Apart from the initial technical issues, the show went on good (and Loud!). A hard-to-find recording nowadays! Brought here be the man who made the sound himself! And to this day can’t forget how fuckin loud the band played! -
Kiss coming to Brazil in the early 80’s was a truly revolution! It was news all over the place! The Maracana Stadium, used for the first time on this king of show with an international act. The sound could be better if Brazilian sound engineers and broadcast equipment was better, but is decent enough for a soundboard recording. -
Audience 9.2 - An incomplete show, but who's counting? Fourteen rock and roll songs by masters of this style. When you hear the songs that you are familiar with, there is an air of this being kind of less of a nostalgic performing of classics and more of a rare opportunity to hear the authentic performances of them in a small club live setting. It's charming, but serious. Soundboard 9.0 - A somewhat dated sounding board tape. It's good enough, it's better than a muddy, distant audience tape, but it is less than the typical crispness you expect out of a board tape. There's a very driving guitar tone on here though, and it really powers this show in a highly dynamic way. Audience 8.5 - A total time capsule, I mean, if you want to know what the 70's sounded like just pop this CD in. Kind of dated but hippie cool. Sound is good, but a little crowded in the middle and raucous in a fun way. Your ears will bump into the guy next to you, and you'll be pushed and shoved a little but man, you are at the show having a blast. The thing about listening to mid 70's live Aerosmith is you are always kind of tuning in to hear signs of the impending train-wreck about to happen at any minute and I guess that is the charm of it. This recording is the train wrecking, but as I said it's in a pretty phun way. AEROSMITH Cleveland Coliseum Cleveland, Ohio 1976-06-28 01. JAWS INTRO 02. MAMA KIN 03. WRITE ME 04. S.O.S.
