Audience 9.5 - Brilliant! After sound adjustments the PA system just cranks out the best, clearest sound you could hope for. Almost everything is clear and balanced in the mix, I mean it ain’t perfect (for instance we don’t get the best balance between Keith and Ron) but it’s darn good. The sound mix has nothing to do with how well the audio capture is but it factors slightly in the rating. Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Really sweet!  

Cleveland 1981 is an FM Broadcast 9.2 which I had not heard before believe it or not, so, I was suitably impressed. Anyone would be appreciative! The second disc (and most of the 3^rd) is Montreal 81 and is an FM Broadcast 8.9 due to a more subdued signal that does not take away any frequency range but rather slightly compresses the sound just a bit. Now I want the listener to realize that this is a subjective opinion, technically speaking the audio here is excellent so it’s a matter of personal taste in this case. The second half of disc 3 is all studio quality. Radio Broadcast 8.8 - This tape sounds a bit old and word but the music that it contains is pretty well “out there” and I can only imagine how many trips have been taken with this band playing in the background in the late 60’s. Audience 8.5 - We all are aware that this tape is not spectacular quality, it does what it needs to do and that is present a document of a great evening for Led Zeppelin. It’s quite magical in many respects, and really I think the quality is not disappointing considering some re-mastering of the tape has been done and it helps. Still this is worth having for history and for how good the band is playing. Just a tiny bit of tape hiss when things are quieter, but this tape is a joy to listen to and the band is just firing on all cylinders. FM Broadcast 9.7-  Brilliant sound, and so nice to have this because you get the full on experience with a great band and the great back up vocals of Ruby Starr (I honestly would not have minded at all for her to be the singer and Jim the washboard player and back up singer!). Audience 8.7 - A very clean tape recording, sonically it is extremely good for the time period. I only notice maybe vocals being a little bit underneath the music which is not a bother when you consider that most of this is instrumental anyway…however that is a minor quibble, this is a great recording for 1970. Soundboard 9.0 - Nothing inherently wrong with this board tape, it’s very much what you should expect, but there is some atmosphere that captures some of the room excitement. You won’t strain to hear anything on this recording as everything is right up front. Bass is very well rounded and tight, drums are in the pocket and guitar is blasting as only Rory can. So, it is highly suggested you grab this, ‘cause you’ll dig it. Audience 8.7/8.9  - Both recordings are really well done with the clear edge going to the 1975 stuff because it is a little bit more clear, although the synths and moogs and other keys are pushed way out front in the mix which is great because those sounds are otherworldly and mega heavy! A spot of mic dropout can be heard and it could easily have been edited out but it’s kept on the there but thankfully lasts only 2 seconds…otherwise what a show this is!  Fantastic and mind blowing! Audience 9.0 - This is a really bold and vibrant recording, where you get this palpable “thwap” of the drums that feels like you are there. In very quiet passages there is the slightest of tape hiss but it’s actually kind of hard to find things to be critical of with this one. It’s really good! Fillmore East 1969 Audience 8.4 - A bit of hiss is present, the music is not crystal clear until the guitar kicks in and then it comes alive. I’ll tell you what listening to this did for me: I started to understand why hippies tripped balls to Canned Heat, there is a very weird acid vibe going on, things get distorted and intense, and extremely psychedelic in a blues based presentation that is really kind of crazy. Maybe it was due to the band blowing up amplifiers, I don’t know but it’s intoxicating and you can’t stop listening to it, maybe it’s just this show, this weird recording that seems to do weird things…on purpose?  You decide. Atlanta Pop Festival 1969 Audience 8.8 - A very interesting sounding old tape, with lead guitar and vocals quite present as if taper was real close but no distortion (although some tape hiss). The performance is bristling with acid blues rock electricity. It’s just palpable, I get these guys I really understand what the magic was.
