Audience 8,4 - Somewhat distant, but not the kind of distant that means taper is in nose bleed section, it’s still pretty clear. Fidelity is decent, not a real “full” sound but I got everything including piano in this. There’s some hiss, in the background mostly while music is playing it’s not a bother. Audience 8.6 This is a pretty common Who boot, and, well, it’s fine but to me I thought guitar was too low in the mix. It’s a rollicking good show, bass, vocals sound strong followed by Moon, and to be fair, during quieter parts Townshend’s guitar is clearer. It’s during the heavy parts where guitar loses force (it’s there, it’s not completely gone!) and probably it saves the tape deck from overloading so I’d rather it a little behind in the mix than completely distorting the tape. Audience 8.9 - Very lively, great atmosphere! Sound is very very good, and the mix that gets to your ears includes everything happening on stage but what I really love is the sound of the drums. Fills the arena yet is pretty tight, with that slight bouncing off the walls effect that gives an almost 360 degree experience. Audience 8.5 - Pretty middle of the road, not annoying or bad, but not crystal clear. Hard to hear any detail in the guitars, it’s on the bassy side, so it’s bass and Jagger, and some locomotive sound which could be Keith and Ronnie. I mean, it is clear enough, it’s not a “bad” tape at all – in fact listening closely I am tempted to say this was pulled from a video source. CD 1 Audience 8.8 - A very good, bright, well balanced recording. Most welcomed because for me, it’s this time period (actually 1970-73) of the band I like the most. CD 2 Audience 8.1 - A somewhat flat, and a little bit muffled recording. I can still hear everything, it lacks dynamic range, but I did not find it annoyingly so, just when compared to disc 1 this one sounds lifeless. The show itself, not their best, and not their worst. Is it essential? It’s a great sounding ’76 board tape (the closing gig of the tour in Europe) so, my thought is that it should be somewhat necessary in the collection. Audience 8.6 - This is an untouched, raw transfer straight from the reels, and as such it will sound like it could be MUCH better sonically with some professional sound re-mastering. Many people will no doubt want to hear it as it was recorded, and it is good, it’s really pretty good, but what I would prefer is a sonic facelift because I think this one really deserves it. It’s still a great show. Audience 9.1 - A really fine recording and a great show this is! Some minor limitations present during very heavy passages where the equipment fails to maintain the clarity we get used to during most of this show – but it’s not a deal-breaker at all because the recording remains powerful without distorting which is critical to the success of the tapers’ efforts here. You might lose a touch of vocals and some clarity (a little bit) but that will not detract from the pleasure you will get from this show. Of special note is Florian's use of the Votrax VS-6 "Talking Typewriter" as Karl put it in his memoir for "Die Sonne, Der Mond, Die Sterne." -
Audience 7.8 - Recorded on what sounds like a realistic cassette deck, it’s limited in dynamic range and clarity. It is not, however, a pile of muck and murk, you can hear pretty much every instrument, and guitar cuts through during solos but rhythm-wise it’s behind the sound a bit. Vocals are clear, I get drums pretty well, so it’s not a waste of time and it’s a great tour with 25 or 6 to 4 being their latest blockbuster smash hit. I would get this if you appreciated the band during their initial rise to stardom, as the joy in their playing does come through on this tape. Audience 8.6 - I don’t quite know what to make of this tape – it is very clear but with some kind of slight crispness in the middle to high band that suggests the microphone being used was not up to the task. That being said, it’s still a pretty good recording, and with a class mic it would have been a 9.0 or better. Well worth getting, that is my final assessment. Audience 8.4 - A lo-fi but pretty decent and clear recording. I would not expect there to be many high-end live tapes floating around due to the fact that most people probably did not know who this guy was. Collectors will appreciate having this, a very uncommon thing and worthy of investigation. Audience 9.0 - A sweet, warm, and spacious (mostly) recording that came out of nowhere. First of all, it’s already a rarity to find a tape of Rush from the UK, second, it’s a great vintage. The show? Audience 8.7 - A very good tape, with brightness and decent clarity, although maybe slightly crunchy at the very top of the high end (cymbals) but not too much. It does lack just a bit of mid band warmth and punch, but once you get about 10 minutes in, you will adjust and realize it’s pretty good, especially for those with EQ’s in their system because then you can round it off a little. Audience 8.7 - A very well recorded show by all accounts. The sound is round, and has nice timbre. I hear everything clearly, bass sounds warm, guitars are raw and jangly…basically this sounds like the Stones in a club and it’s anything but a club! Audience 8.7 - This show features the return to the Spectrum, a venue they had recently played and for some reason decided that they needed to schedule another show there (perhaps they felt the last show there was below par?). Anyway, by all accounts it’s a better gig, and the audio quality is also better with clearer sound and better separation of instruments. The recording levels are a touch low, so you will have to turn up the volume (trust me it won’t distort or break up, it will get even better). Sounds like someone handed Joe Perry the wrong guitar heading onto stage because he is way out of tune! He tries to tune on the fly, but sounds like he is given another guitar and things improve. A weird start to a show! The band cranks through its classics at this point, an entertaining show to these ears. Good quality for a 1977 gig, straight from the taper. Enjoy! -

Pretty much on her own now (no longer paired with Gram Parsons R.I.P.) she started playing in the clubs in the DC area when a producer came to record this show for future reference as he crafted her breakout solo album. Morrison & Jeff Wisor on tracks 7-11 (disc 2) {After Gram Parsons's death} Emmy moved back to D.C., where Tom Guidera had also become a country music convert. With pedal steel player Danny Pendleton and two other musicians, they put together the Angel Band and started gigging around the clubs, playing some of the songs she’d performed with Gram. Eddie Tickner made Harris his number one priority and he convinced Mary Martin, an A&R representative from Warner/Reprise Records (the label that had released Parsons’ solo work) to investigate an Angel Band show in a Washington nightclub. Emmylou Harris became a Reprise Records recording artist in 1974; with her daughter Hallie in tow, the Angel Band relocated to Los Angeles to begin work on Harris’s first true solo album. To produce, Martin paired Harris up with Nova Scotia native Brian Ahern, the mastermind behind Anne Murray’s spate of hits in the early 70’s. She brought the quiet Canadian to hear the Angel Band, and he recorded the performance on a hand-held cassette machine to study at home. This sounds better than a hand-held cassette machine recording, purportedly a sound board, but it's not by any means what we think of as soundboard quality by today's standards. -

Not all of their shows had that insane intensity and sharpness…sometimes they wandered and lost focus but not here…no way. This…is…amazing! Play this for your kids’ friends when they try to impress you with some new flavor of the month band they are into. Ha! Soundboard 9.4 - Minor hiss present in quiet passages but does not impact any music. This is a great show, impressive in every regard especially the incendiary guitar work by unheralded master Daryl Stuermer. Many people were first introduced to Ponty through this album, Imaginary Voyage, and it’s on full display here in a live setting. EXCELLENT!! Audience 8.8 - I can’t fault this too much even though it is not a tape without a certain sonic limitation – but it’s not enough of a fault to be critical of what is a fantastic performance paired with a warm, energy filled tape. It’s a great capture that barely holds the intensity before it begins to break-up, albeit only slightly, as the volume overwhelms the microphone. Is that bad? Normally it spells disaster if the recording equipment is, say, a realistic or some no-name generic piece of crap but this taper is obviously using high end stuff. The point at which volume and intensity causes normal gear to fail only slightly bother this set-up. So, I recommend it as one of the better 1976 tapes out there. It’s simply great and you’ll love it. Audience 8.3 - Not recorded from the best vantage point on the best gear, but taper made the best of it, and it gets incrementally better from the time where he moves to a better spot (closer). Tape has all the hallmarks of a large stadium, loud rock concert, the regular deal…not going to blow anyone away. Now that I’ve said that, there’s some good news! Yup – Pete is playing great and he is the clearest sounding, followed by Roger, and the bass has a good, deep, rumbling growl that comes through (NOT boomy!). If this tape had been boomy, I would have rated it in the upper 7’s. The stage has typical left and right arrays but there was also an extra array on the right side facing the stage. Strangely not one to the left side. I parked myself in front of it which was basically just above me. On minor movement towards the center of the arena on the right side to avoid two chicks with whistles and the remaining show was recorded in that position. -

Soundboard 9.1 - This mix favors Mick Jagger, but I like the very lifelike feel of it overall. It’s not super well separated but everything can be heard well enough and that includes the piano (although horns are pushed back), and Mick Taylor is especially present when he solos (an added bonus!). There is no doubt that this recording must be present in every Rolling Stones fan’s collection. Audience 8.6 - Small club vibe and really good sound with an emphasis on percussion clarity and presence. Recording leans to the mid and upper end but it’s not too brittle there, so it’s very comfortable but can use some added low end anyway. Aside from that, this is quite good. Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim Butler on bass. The Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their debut album was in 1980. But in 1982, the band were reduced to a four-piece. The Furs did find success in the US with their next release, 1981's Talk Talk Talk, which included the original version of "Pretty in Pink", which was later re-recorded for the 1986 movie soundtrack "Pretty in Pink". This movie would help launch Molly Ringwald's acting career. -

Audience 8.3 - What is happening with this tape is that the bass frequencies are too much for the microphone, and it causes some peaking (not pure distortion, just level peak). On the plus side, it’s relatively open in all the other frequencies, meaning you can actually listen to this show and once your ears sort of adjust to the limitations, it’s not that bad. I would still call this one for hardcore collectors only though, even when there is a shortage of 1979 tapes.
