• Audience 8.8 - This is the exact kind of audience tape I love the most. It’s taped from pretty close to the stage, is not overloaded, but it is overloaded with manic energy and intensity. Steve Vai brought out the best in Frank, you can hear it on full display here. A wonderful show (open air), a great tape, a must have. Also there are fewer 1982 shows recorded than you might think.
  • New York 1973 SDBRD 9.2 - Excellent professionally recorded show. It’s easy to hear how it was that his star took off and exploded just a few short years later. New Orleans 1973 Audience 8.8 - A strong, clear, atmospheric recording (easy to put yourself in the taper’s seats). I always thought some bands sound better if they aren’t captured through the board…Frampton has such good stage presence and there’s always such a good audience report…audience tapes of excellent quality are the best listening experience imho. • Budokan 1978 - Audience 7.6 - Too much high end, sounds like all the bass was filtered out. Add bass! Mantra Studios 1977 – FM Radio Broadcast 9.0
  • FM Radio Broadcast 8.7 - Pretty rocking debut, and even though the audio quality is not perfect (although it is great) I really like the rawness and band interplay of their early gigs.
  • Soundboard 8.8 - Probably radio broadcast, very strong and dynamic if just a tad dated sounding.
  • Audience 8.5 - Solid all the way.
  • Soundboard/Audience matrix 9.5 - Here you have a recording that does both of the things you want in a live concert experience – clarity and punch via soundboard and ambience, immersion, electricity of the audience. The audience recording being blended in really adds to this experience, even when you hear excitable fans clapping nearby…it’s quite exhilarating really and this recording will eventually be hailed and revered by fans because…well, unfortunately because of the passing of Taylor Hawkins (RIP). • Foghat 7.4 ~ Robin Trower 7.5 ... Interesting concept, including the opening act and headliner in a 2 disc set - but it makes sense to me and it works spectacularly here. The quality is decent, I rate conservatively, you can really sink your ears (and teeth) into both sets but I give the slight edge to Trower's set as he was headlining and therefore probably got better service from sound guy.
  • Audience 8.2 - Very live, with that telltale large hall reverb but smoking hot show and audio is real good and very electric.
  • Pro Radio Broadcast 9.8 - When hearing a recording of a great band in this fidelity, it reveals much more about the artist than what you might learn just listening to their hits on the radio. For instance, thier music is much more layered and nuanced once you hear this show, even live the band is so tight, so professional, that stuff is going on you don’t even get from the album tracks. • Audience 8.7 - A little on the upper midrange/high side but VERY clean and crisp with very pronounced and clear vocals especially. Really great!
  • Soundboard 9.7 - Not all board tapes are exceptional, even if they sound good. What makes for an exceptional one is whether it sounds “live” or not, and this one most definitely does! • Audience/SDB 8.9/8.5/9.2/8.7  - A mixed bag but all in all I found it to be very interesting and sound quality held up respectably considering how rare some of this material is. • Audience 8.7 and 8.8 - Both of these recordings are quite good, and most welcomed. Each feature Bob Welch, although the ’72 also has Danny Kirwan still on board (but not for much longer). • Pro Video Source 8.5 - These sound like they were taken from video tape sources and have the telltale compression characteristics. These are actually several different broadcasts during the year 1976, with the final four tracks coming from UC Santa Barbara, which is also the best sounding of the batch.
  • Richfield 1980 Audience 9.7 - Reaching damn near the pinnacle of how good an audience recording can be. The atmosphere, it’s breathtaking. • Pro FM Broadcast 9.6 - I really like the guitar tone here, a bit more grit, sounds less like a mega-hit stadium band and more like a very talented jam band.
  • Soundboard 8.9 - The band is in really fine form here, the sound is good with maybe a small amount of compression which rounds the highs down a little but a nice mix and that performance wins the day. FLEETWOOD MAC - Le Zenith - Paris, France April 14, 1977 01 -Station Man 02 -The Chain 03 -Dreams 04 -Rhiannon 05 -Oh Daddy 06 -Never Going Back Again 07 -Landslide 08 -Over My Head 09 -Gold Dust Woman 10 -You Make Loving Fun 11 -Go Your Own Way 12 -Oh Well 13 -I'm So Afraid 14 -World Turning 15 -Blue Letter
  • Audience 8.8 - A very atmospheric recording that gives you an amazing sense of space and proximity to the action. The music has room to move around, so it’s a natural sounding recording and the listening experience benefits greatly. Sometimes at full volume when the band is really cooking, the music gets a little bunched up but the tapers were good with levels so it does not offend and I appreciate that. This is a real gem!
  • Audience 8.8 - This sounds like what the gig probably sounded like, which is why I refer to this as a “capture” as opposed to a “recording”, and I hope you understand what makes the two different. A soundboard is a recording, and to be honest it doesn’t actually “capture” the event, it is what you would have heard if you were running the live sound for the band. Make sense? • Soudboard 9.7 - Beautiful fullness of sound! Saweet!
  • Audience 9.1 - A good, clean and bright recording that is clear and detailed. Maybe I would say it could use more bottom end but I am nitpicking, it’s got all the essential things a listener needs to be able to “relax” when listening. You don’t have to strain to hear everyone on stage but mix-wise I would place bass and drums more to the back, relatively speaking, on this tape. • Audience 8.6 - A lively tape, with an almost “bar room” feel to it. • Audience 8.5 - A little lack of depth and overall dynamics but pretty clear, well mixed capture here. Stevie sounds good!
  • Soundboard 9.6 - Great live mix, like it was recorded for a release. Drums are tight, guitar is slamming, vocals perfect.
  • Audience 9.5 - Astounding! Not just for the excellent sound but the dynamics are so present here, you get lush, rich lows and then all the way up through the spectrum including detailed but not sizzling highs. Combine all that with the energy of Tusk performed with a marching band at the LA Forum and man, yeah, this is the stuff! • Audience 7.5 - This is direct from the open reel master tape. There is some limitation to the capture (slight oversaturation) but I would say this is a pretty fascinating document.
  • Audience 9.1 - What a find!  This tape exudes raw power, and hearkens back to the original sound and style of the band much more so than what would be just a year and a half later. Does that mean it’s a raw blues rock show?  No, but there is a lot of that here, and more than that it’s the TONE of the band. Gritty, mean, raw but tight…fierce!  The quality of the tape is VERY good…well worth snagging!

  • Audience 8.7 - A very low generation tape (very clean) used here, and it is very decent sounding, You will get some big hall atmosphere but it’s manageable.
  • Soundboard 8.8 - A little hiss, some compression (not too much), and a rather dry sound (a pure board feed, no crowd noise present).
