Audience 9.2 - This one deserves a high rating for not only having great sound quality (with some minor taper adjustment in the beginning) but also because, quite simply, this gig is off the charts cool. Plant makes reference to "the vibes" during the show and it's just obvious that the crowd knows they are witnessing something magic, and the best part is - so does the band. When they realize they are all four "in the zone", the show takes off to levels unprecedented heretofore. A stellar No Quarter and perhaps the best Dazed and Confused of the whole tour...you get that and more. One tiny blemish, during the end of The Rain Song, an equipment malfunction destroys what would have been the penultimate version, and Plant himself recognized the disaster. To me, it's not a deal breaker at all, it lasts a couple seconds, but I understand Plant's frustration completely. Get this now!

Soundboard 9.0 - A mix that captures the band firing on all cylinders, certainly you have to say that Alice Cooper had total command of performance throughout his career and if you worried that his drinking might affect him onstage, well listen to these early shows. I hear no signs of inebriation. In fact this is extremely tight and strong performance wise.Alice Cooper Civic Arena Pittsburgh, PA, USA December 27, 197101 Be My Lover (4:48) 02 You Drive Me Nervous (2:28) 03 Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (4:38) 04 I'm Eighteen (5:34) 05 Halo Of Flies (9:47) 06 Is It My Body (7:05) 07 Dead Babies (5:35) 08 Killer (4:45) 09 Long Way To Go (2:55)Vincent Furnier (Alice Cooper) - Lead Vocals Glen Buxton - Lead Guitar Michael Bruce - Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Backing Vocals Dennis Dunaway - Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals Neal Smith - Drums, Backing Vocals

Audience 7.3 - A rip-roaring, over the top onslaught of greasy rock and roll captured painfully close to the PA. Sounds like this may be lifted from vinyl, and there’s tape noise artifacts present. But, all that taken into account, this is still a very good time and not painful on the ears despite the volume (I think someone attempted to remaster this but it can use one more time).
-
Montreal Audience 8.9 - One of the very best audience recordings from this tour, and ad to that the fact that this is sourced directly from a new 24/96 transfer and has been remastered (16/44) and has never sounded better. Toronto Soundboard 9.4 - another recently discovered (and rare as hen's teeth) board tape from a tour that did not see many board tapes. So, it's not just that it has taken decades for this to be discovered, but that it is an outstanding board tape...it's just too unbelievable to fathom how suddenly there now appears three 1982 soundboards from out of nowhere.

Audience 8.7 - This is a show that just came onto my radar, I can't believe I'd never heard it before. What I was expecting and what I got were two wildly different things...and I mean, it is a good thing. It's a good tape! It also happens to be the gig where the iconic photo of Ozzy lifting Randy was taken, and being able to now hear that show is kind of cool.OZZY OSBOURNE Rosemont Horizon Chicago, Illinois January 24th, 1982 *** "Diary of a Madman" tour *** 01. Audience 9.3 - Excellent, clean, and good concert hall vibe on this one. It’s Japan, and the crowd has a penchant to clap during some songs but the recording mitigates it to the point you barely even notice. My guess is that the mics were raised over the crowd in order to achieve that.

Audience 8.9 - This is what I consider the best audience tape from the Somewhere In Time Tour. It’s got loads of atmosphere but not at the expense of the “directness” of the PA to the mic. It’s a realistic sound, this tape replicates exactly what your ears heard coming out of the PA at this show…without artifacts to detract. Get this!

Studio Quality 9.5 - The average rating here in the mid 9.0’s because except for the occasional minor hiss, this material consists of professionally recorded, live in studio sessions. Good to have it all in a well constructed collection like this.

Soundboard 9.8 - This is a new phenomenon in the modern era of bootlegs. The producers have taken the soundboard from this legendary show and given it an AI powered multi-band compression re-mastering and it’s night and day. Not only that but also a meticulous editing to present what SHOULD have been officially released to the public and if I were Jimmy, well, I would steal this and package it and sell it ha ha! It’s that good.

Audience 8.9 - A great effort here by the taper, it’s got a little bit of that “just about to break” quality, where the limits of the tape are just about reached…yet it holds together. This gives the recording an unmistakable intensity, and for that I rate this highly and say it will be most enjoyable to the listener. Audience 9.1 - Here’s a rarity of sorts, a late 80’s Jefferson Airplane show. So, how relevant were they in the grunge rock era? There’s plenty of fire left in this rock band, and rock they do! Quality is very good here, so your ears can relax and your mind can drift away as you re-engage yourself with what really matters…great, original rock and roll. Audience 8.5 (discs 1 & 2) FM Broadcast 8.7 - Well this is odd, you have an “in the pit” audience tape that actually delivers a good, fun trip because it is immersive despite not being a full bodied audio like you want – it is definitely worth it for the ride though…but that brings us to the FM broadcast of the show…how is it that I find myself enjoying the audience tape more? Yes the FM is cleaner and all, but it’s very limited and not quite like an AM broadcast but for goodness sake where’s the bass and drums? It’s clearly the Tony and Ian show here – I think someone ought to matrix these together because then you might have something. FM Broadcast 9.8 - Just about as good as it can get, this captures the moment and freezes it forever in such granular detail that it feels like you are sitting right next to Dickie’s amp. It makes you appreciate his playing like never before. I mean, I play the guitar, but I have no concept of how you turn it into an extension of yourself to the degree that it is practically impossible to make even the slightest mistake. Not that his playing is perfection, it almost is, but just that he uses the instrument to convey so much feeling that it is impossible even to tell if he ever misses a note or phrases something wrong. Does that make sense? NOTE: The artwork shows disc two with only the last two tracks but the set has been tracked to include "Jessica" and "The Way Love Goes" on disc 2...so the artwork will not be changed to reflect the song order it just is what it is. SDBRD 9.8 - Fantastic upgrade to what was already a super good tape. Why is it so much better? Transferring off a newly discovered pre-broadcast master, you really can get all the ambience, the background, the crisper highs and deeper lows…all of this adds up to something really special. Even if you already have this, I recommend getting this upgrade version if nothing else just to compare the two. I think this ups the ante significantly. Hammersmith 1977 Audience 8.5 Not bad for a ’77 aud. but it doesn’t open up much, stays within a bandwidth that allows you to hear everything on stage but with mostly guitar and bass, with Ozzy singing rising over it all. Drums are somewhat buried the snare comes through OK The more I listen to the more I adjust and like it, like the rating indicates this isn’t terrible seeing as how there are few really stellar ’77 tapes. 6-10-78 Audience 8.4 This tape does not rise above what seems at first a noisiness, where you don’t get a good separation of instruments and a frequency that favors upper mid and highs, but thankfully not annoyingly so. I would say that you might still endure it all the way through regardless because while I was not blown away, I also wasn’t offended. It’s average, but not garbage bin material. 6-19-78 Audience 9.0 The best of the Hammersmith set for sure. It’s pretty clear and has good separation of instruments. I did find it leans more to treble tone, but you can add bass and not destroy this at all…so there’s a lot to like about this show. Audience 9.0 - A great effort by taper to capture this entire show with the kind of results that keep you wanting to enjoy it. Band on fire, audience responds, taper captures it well…yes! Audience 9.3 - I am hesitant to call this a radio broadcast but this obviously was professionally recorded, but the recording might not necessarily be through the board hence “audience” tape. Audience 9.7 - both of these shows were recorded onto a 4-track machine which is clearly obvious when you hear just how crystal this stuff sounds, as well as the separation of instruments. Some minor stuff does occur with the old tape in a couple spots but that passes without much fuss, it’s hard to knock these recordings but I do have to let you know what I hear. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
