Santa Monica 1974 Audience 8.7 - A tape that takes a song to balance out and adjust but once it gets going is quite good. Some signs of age, but it has held up reasonably well and makes a nice addition to any collection. Be aware there is a tape situation during Dancing With The Moonlit Knight where the sound phases back and forth across the speakers, sounding as if the show was in quadraphonic, and the tape machine struggled but it lasts only a couple of minutes.  Not a complete show, we only have 47 minutes but it’s better to have this than nothing at all. Quebec City 1974 Audience 8.9 - A very clear and strong tape that does take a minute to settle in, with tapers carrying on occasionally but eventually chilling out…they don’t annoy too much thank goodness! The performance here is stellar, the audience very responsive. A memorable evening. FM Broadcast 9.0 and Audience 8.8 - Both recordings capture the band well enough to appreciate that they were at least attempting to craft their own sound and style. Soundboard 9.6 - So, not every show of the ’74 tour was a train wreck and this should be proof of that. Sure, Clapton occasionally blurts stuff out, sometimes during a song, but performance-wise this is stellar. Sound quality is near perfect. Soundboard and TV 9.3/8.8 - The first two discs are by and large excellent and clear but the last disc is more subdued, still soundboard but the source has aged more and the signal is less bright. Audience 8.6 - A very decent recording that may be slightly distant but is real clear and not boomy, rather there is a pretty inviting bottom end and sharp highs – it’s the middle frequency that is not as present which is not generally the case. The taper is in the brawling midst of the action on the floor and you really do feel a part of their excitement during the concert. I would say this is kind of immersive in that sense, and not annoyingly so either. A fun tape, I was sucked into it at times and could not extract myself. Landover 1973 Soundboard 9.3 - A solid recording that was broadcast over the air and features a nice wide stereo mix showing detail in the bass and crisp, crunchy guitar not to mention having another well recorded Keith Moon experience…and of course Roger is in fine form (when is he not?). Wembley 1975 Audience 8.5 - Not horrible, the music is all here in pretty clear form (I get a good picture of drums thankfully), but the highlight is the stage banter where you get a lot of stuff that will entertain for sure. I am happy say that the recording does also get better, so that once you are firmly ensconced in your listening chair you will start to get into this one more and more. Audience 8.6 - Surprisingly decent, it’s got some “rattle and bones” but overall it is highly listenable with a good timbre to it. Anything from this period is welcome, and this old tape has not only survived the decades intact but delivers on the enjoyment meter considerably. The bonus tracks vary but are generally pretty good quality with the tell-tale sound of vinyl ever present throughout. No attempt was made to clean it up, this is due to the sensitive nature of the high end on these recordings, it would seem any real noise reduction or cleaning would compromise that. Soundboard 9.0 - Interesting hearing this line up in such clarity,  it certainly allows you to make a better judgment on the music, which by the way is pretty damn good. It’s different, in some ways, but it is still very good. My advice is not to go into it thinking you are getting Black Sabbath – rather consider it a Tony Iommi side project, then it makes more sense and will grab you in a better way. Audience 9.3  - At first I thought this might be a board, it’s very clean and clear. Then in spots, especially crowd (but some boards get bleed from stage mics) but certainly during hand claps it gives it away. It’s a really sweet recording for sure, and just sublime playing all over the place. Audience 8.5 - Do not judge this show by the first song, just skip past it in fact. Tape gets MUCH better and is rather enjoyable, good presence on the guitar and Plant doesn’t even need a P.A. but show does end prematurely as Robert has a little issue with staying conscience.
