• Audience 8.7 - This recording sounds like what I always imagined a Stones concert from 1975 would sound like…raw, dirty, and dangerous. How can anyone not like this kind of stuff?  It’s just the coolest, really, sitting here and reliving these times. The Stones captured the times in their sound, and their energy is so damn cool, so funky, bluesy, the Stones are rock and roll. The Rolling Stones Rich Stadium, Buffalo, NY. August 8. 1975. CD 1: 1. • Audience 8.3 - This recording is balancing very finely on the borderline but thankfully falls onto the “acceptable” side. I would call it slightly above average maybe, as the tape shows some typical age limitations, but still manages to present the evening in a listenable quality. Must have been a small audience at this show, crowd response is weak, but the band still perform admirably. Guzman Theatre, Miami, FL. March 9th, 1974 Disc 1

  • CD1 Audience 9.1 - A great capture of the evening’s festivities. Clear, close, well balanced. Bravo!  CD2 Audience 8.7 - A big bold sound, and from the master tape, but where disc 1 has well defined instrument separation, this one is a more melded together sound with emphasis on bottom end. You still have an enjoyable experience, but it’s more about the rock and roll power rather than finesse with this tape. • Audience 8.4 - This is a tape that fits the Stones image, it’s rough, raw, and loaded with chaotic energy. It has flaws, but it recovers and gets back onto your good side. You will get used to the screaming chick, thankfully her howls are spread out. Try not to get too wrapped up into the occasional drop out or glitch because you can really get sucked into this concert if you let yourself. Madison Square Garden New York, June 24th, 1975 Disc 1

  • Audience 9.2 - Both shows represented here are very similar and probably done by the same crew, in roughly the same vicinity because both are close to the P.A. (and not distorted!).  In fact, both are exactly the kind of audience tapes I like the most – brutally powerful with just enough atmosphere to get the feel of the day. When I say powerful, I mean this stuff is comin’ at ya! Love it to death! • Audience 8.8 - A good, strong, very clear recording with accompanying audience members who are REALLY getting into it. I found it fun, not annoying at all, because mostly they are quiet while the music plays. The music is great too, and strong performances by everyone. • Audience 8.7 - This recording has an overall decent quality to it but somewhere in the mid frequency band there is a small amount of clutter that seems to be more noticeable when heavy bass is played. Otherwise the audio can be remarkably clear, but I don’t think this slight flaw (probably in the mic that was used) ruins the recording; it’s not “glaring”, just there. Re-mastering the audio helped to notch out the offending frequency making it a lot better, so go for it, it’s pretty good. • Audience 8.8  - Some people list this as a soundboard, and if you heard the music right off you might think that too, but the audience applause gives it away as an audience tape, albeit a damn fine one. Plenty of atmosphere, and pretty solid dynamics (lush and deep bass, clear guitar, present vocals). Great version of Astronomy Domine (still performed live during the early part of 1970). • Audience 8.7 - Here is a good argument for why we should be open minded towards audience tapes. You NEED some atmosphere! I want to re-experience the show, that means I want to hear it as it happened, not sterilized and filtered. I like board tapes too, but we need a balance. This recording allows me to participate with the audience and be there with them in the moment, and hear the band from out front of the stage. It’s clean, and I hear all the instruments well placed, and reasonably dynamic with just the right amount of headroom so we don’t go pegging the meters. I really like this tape, you will too. • Audience 8.3 - Distant, with a limited bandwidth that keeps the sound from really opening up wider. It’s not the worst of the tour, the music is listenable, in fact guitars ring out nicely but the vocals are too distant. You will need to turn up the volume on this, where it actually sounds better the louder it is (strange because you would think it would magnify the flaws but it helps in this case). • Audience 8.8 - Aside from a rough beginning, this tape comes pretty darn close to the excellence of the Toronto ’75 show. • Audience 8.8  - This came from a collection of tapes that were recorded by a couple who had the permission of the venue, so you would expect them to be done with more precision and care….but the story goes that they never listened to the finished results and therefore were unaware of the flaws in all of their efforts, mainly being signal overload. Now, this is where modern technology comes in to the equation – because after all these years we are able to notch out the offending frequencies and now the tapes sound VERY good! Listen to the difference, go back and find a pre-mastered version of this show and then listen to this one. It’s amazing, really amazing what a well trained ear can do for some of these old artifacts. This show also happens to be an inspired performance too, so win/win. • Audience 7.8 - The venue had a pool in front of the stage, so it stands to reason audience taping had to be midway back making for a not so great sound quality although listenable (not distorted, not horribly muddled) and historic (a unique venue that played host to top tier artists in their prime).  The tapers sound like a couple of English gents speaking throughout the show in their proper English which makes for a fun commentary of the show…I mean, it’s half the fun of this recording! This was a celebration, a monumental event, as were pretty much all Stones shows from 1972 on. So, yeah, rowdy crowd, noise, all that and more. But, you know, I listen to these and I still enjoy them a lot. It’s the event that I hear, I really don’t care if I don’t get every detailed note I mean it’s the sloppy Stones isn’t it? I hear a little bit of distortion in a very specific place in the middle band, not anything to ruin the experience but it is present and sounds like someone made an effort to clean it up in remastering. This is a worthwhile listen. • Audience 8.8 - I can’t believe it was 32 years ago I attended, and recorded, this concert. It was my birthday present, although this actually went down one day before my b-day. It’s weird because Joe also sang “Birthday” the classic Beatles song (and it wasn’t for me although I imagined that it was ha ha!). This recording is only now being made available, and it sounds great and just how I remember it, with Joe being very animated and playing lots of numbers not normally played, and telling funny stories. It was a great night, I had a blast. • Audience 8.8 - Clear and bright, and wide open enough to be able to get a realistic sense of what it was like at the venue. • Soundboard 9.6 - This tour was well documented with a plethora of expertly recorded board tapes. This is no exception, the quality, both in terms of sound and mix, is worthy of official release. Then there is the other measure of greatness – performance. Well, it’s Santana at their creative peak, where everything came together and they were riding the crest of a wave…which lasted a good long time. • Audience 8,4 - Somewhat distant, but not the kind of distant that means taper is in nose bleed section, it’s still pretty clear. Fidelity is decent, not a real “full” sound but I got everything including piano in this. There’s some hiss, in the background mostly while music is playing it’s not a bother. I think most fans are going to appreciate this tape, it’s good. The Rolling Stones - Mannheim, September 3. 1973 CD 1: 1. Intro 2. Brown Sugar 3. Bitch 4. Gimme Shelter 5. Happy 6. • Audience 8.6 This is a pretty common Who boot, and, well, it’s fine but to me I thought guitar was too low in the mix. It’s a rollicking good show, bass, vocals sound strong followed by Moon, and to be fair, during quieter parts Townshend’s guitar is clearer. It’s during the heavy parts where guitar loses force (it’s there, it’s not completely gone!) and probably it saves the tape deck from overloading so I’d rather it a little behind in the mix than completely distorting the tape. • Audience 8.9 - Very lively, great atmosphere! Sound is very very good, and the mix that gets to your ears includes everything happening on stage but what I really love is the sound of the drums. Fills the arena yet is pretty tight, with that slight bouncing off the walls effect that gives an almost 360 degree experience. • Audience 8.5 - Pretty middle of the road, not annoying or bad, but not crystal clear. Hard to hear any detail in the guitars, it’s on the bassy side, so it’s bass and Jagger, and some locomotive sound which could be Keith and Ronnie. I mean, it is clear enough, it’s not a “bad” tape at all – in fact listening closely I am tempted to say this was pulled from a video source.
