• Audience 7.8 - Recorded on what sounds like a realistic cassette deck, it’s limited in dynamic range and clarity. It is not, however, a pile of muck and murk, you can hear pretty much every instrument, and guitar cuts through during solos but rhythm-wise it’s behind the sound a bit. Vocals are clear, I get drums pretty well, so it’s not a waste of time and it’s a great tour with 25 or 6 to 4 being their latest blockbuster smash hit.  I would get this if you appreciated the band during their initial rise to stardom, as the joy in their playing does come through on this tape. • Soundboard 9.8 - There would be no reason why a professionally recorded Kraftwerk show should sound anything less than near perfect because let’s face it, unless you are a complete moron, it would be hard to screw up their mix. It’s pretty basic, and because of that what you have here is pretty darn good. Kraftwerk l'Olympia Paris, France February 28th, 1976 Personnel: Ralf Hütter: Minimoog Model D, Vako Orchestron, mixer Karl Bartos: Electronic Percussion Wolfgang Flür: Electronic Percussion, photo-electric light-activated drum cage Florian Schneider-Esleben: ARP Odyssey, Votrax VS-6 "talking typewriter", electronic flute-synth device, mixer Disc 1 1. Mitternacht Notes on the show: Yet another AMAZING find that's now just come to light. This is a master tape from the France Inter archive of the FULL l'Olympia show! We only had 21 mins from the 'Somewhere in Europe' LP and then 38 mins from a rebroadcast in 2015. This is the complete show from a radio programme called "We're Going Out Tonight" with no radio DJ talking over the music or tuning. Very likely recorded before being broadcast on the radio. Of special note is Florian's use of the Votrax VS-6 "Talking Typewriter" as Karl put it in his memoir for "Die Sonne, Der Mond, Die Sterne."

  • Soundboard 9.0 - A good, strong board tape, and a typically high quality Santana performance. This tape has been given a little facelift to reveal better dynamics, less hiss, and more depth in the bottom end, and high mids attenuated to make for a smooth, comfortable listening experience. • Pro FM Broadcast 9.2 - Both sets are great, both in performance and sound quality.  Really great musicianship! I also found myself really enjoying the songs, since I was only very familiar with their evergreen hit “Green Grass and High Tides”.  I saw these guys in 1980 and they were great but I was so young I just can’t remember the songs. • Audience 8.4 - Another one of those audience recordings that, while being listenable and clear, does not have a great separation of instruments or vocal clarity. That being said, this recording is certainly worth having, because it’s not a pile of muddy crap – it’s very listenable. Features a packed set list too. • Audience 9.1 - A really fine recording and a great show this is! Some minor limitations present during very heavy passages where the equipment fails to maintain the clarity we get used to during most of this show – but it’s not a deal-breaker at all because the recording remains powerful without distorting which is critical to the success of the tapers’ efforts here. You might lose a touch of vocals and some clarity (a little bit) but that will not detract from the pleasure you will get from this show. • Audience 8.6 - This is an untouched, raw transfer straight from the reels, and as such it will sound like it could be MUCH better sonically with some professional sound re-mastering. Many people will no doubt want to hear it as it was recorded, and it is good, it’s really pretty good, but what I would prefer is a sonic facelift because I think this one really deserves it. It’s still a great show. • Soundboard 9.3 - A very well traveled tape, seeing release as a video, as well as countless boot CD’s. The video was so-so, the audio has always been great. The show itself, not their best, and not their worst. Is it essential?  It’s a great sounding ’76 board tape (the closing gig of the tour in Europe) so, my thought is that it should be somewhat necessary in the collection. • Audience 9.7 - This recording is a sonic treat for your ears. The band performs a percussive style of music that is picked up by tapers equipment in a most dynamic way, with beautiful tonal quality, separation of instruments, and atmosphere. A winner! • CD 1 Audience 8.8 - A very good, bright, well balanced recording. Most welcomed because for me, it’s this time period (actually 1970-73) of the band I like the most. CD 2 Audience 8.1 - A somewhat flat, and a little bit muffled recording. I can still hear everything, it lacks dynamic range, but I did not find it annoyingly so, just when compared to disc 1 this one sounds lifeless.
