• Audience  8.7 - A real small club atmosphere that puts you kind of up front where you get a real snappy drum sound and then guitars and vocals seem panned in wide stereo field because I can only assume the recorder was standing in front of the stage and was picking up the drums first then the P.A.’s which give this a very real vibe.
  • Audience  8.4 - At some parts there is an annoying noise in the bandwidth, but it clears up. Nevertheless this is one to get.
  • Audience  8.6 - Open mic recordings of a studio rehearsal session that sound fairly decent if not a bit raucous and rough around the edges.
  • Audience  6.8 - From what I understand this was once one of the rarest D & the D’s tapes. Unfortunately it is pretty rough, that being said guitar is the clearest thing on here. A fiery show too!
  • Soundboard  9.3 - Guitars literally leap out of the speakers in this mix. Not 100% if it is actually a board tape because there’s some atmosphere, at least with vocals and drums.
  • Audience  8.5 - Maybe a little low end muddiness with a real strong bass presence but I don’t think it kills this recording at all. If the guitars and vocals did not come through I would have said otherwise. The playing is exceptional; this recording should be enjoyed by all.
  • All Pro Soundboard  9.6 - Stunning quality!
  • Audience  8.8 - This is a strange recording because at first it may seem as though it is a board tape because there’s virtually no audience noise at all. Closer examination reveals that it is more likely an open mic placed right up on the stage or close to the mains. It is a little hot, meaning the levels are near max, but thankfully it only comes to the bleeding edge and does not fall off the cliff. A pretty darn exciting tape!
  • Audience  7.8 - Tape is a little over saturated but all the music comes through and well separated so that you get every piano key, every guitar note, every bass note, etc. and it’s great.
  • CD reissue of an album that came out in 1983. CD is new, never played.
  • Professional Broadcast 9.2 - The audio CD has been remastered and sounds nice, the audio on the video disc is not remastered and sounds as it did during the original broadcast. • Audience 8.4 - The same taping crew that did the Ozzy Osbourne, and it sounds very similar but maybe a touch clearer. It’s a pretty good effort, especially when you consider the year, and what I mean is that the tape recording equipment used during most of the 80’s did not usually produce anything to write home about. So, overall, this is a really decent early period Def Leppard recording. DEF LEPPARD Music Mountain South Fallsburg, NY. • Nazareth Radio City Music Hall 1976 Audience 9.2 - Opening for Deep Purple, the band has something to prove…and prove it they did! In excellent, mind-bending sonic POWER – the kick drum literally will kick your skull in – the crowd extending their pleasure with every note.  For those only familiar with their two radio staples, you will most certainly want to re-examine this band’s output after hearing this. I know I did! Deep Purple Radio City Music Hall 1976 Audience 9.1 - This is a long awaited tape for many people who craved to hear the late Tommy Bolin with the band in at least above average quality. This is way above average! Now, it is not perfect, I would have liked more guitar in the house mix, but still you can’t deny the power and excitement of this recording. • Audience 5.7 - Muffled and bass heavy but blistering show wish it was better sound. Vocals kind of clear, can hear guitar and he’s shredding like hell.
  • Audience 7.9 - It’s hard give this a below 8 rating because of technical limitations of the recorder (a touch of high end distortion) because it is a very exciting and highly amped show captured quite well for the primitive hear that must have been used. I can hear everything and guitar is loud and up front. The distortion present is not a killer, it’s there but it is as unobtrusive as distortion can be. A fun recording, puts you right there.
  • Audience 6.8 - Audio is Not very good but man, what a bummer because this is one of the absolute best performances I think I have ever heard. Totally intense and really good improv jams that do not bore you to tears. Wish it was better – but on the plus side you get a rather clear Richie on guitar. Quieter passages are rather decent. The main problem here is that everything is squeezed into a narrow bandwidth. Must have for hardcore fans for the ferociousness of the performance.
  • Soundboard 9.2 - I think this right here is as good as it will get to a complete Tommy Bolin Purple gig in soundboard quality and, here’s the important thing, reasonably cohesive playing. To be honest, after listening to this, it’s kind of apparent that Deep Purple was probably not the best vehicle for Tommy’s talents. Not that he can’t play, but that Deep Purple’s music was too one dimensional. That being said it is still pretty good despite the erratic mix – sometimes guitar is up front and sometimes it is buried. All in all I think I can say this show will be a revelation for Purple and Bolin fans. Deep Purple Springfield Civic Center Springfield, MA. 26th January 1976 Disc 1 1. Intro 2. Burn 3. Lady Luck 4. • Soundboard 9.4 - Excellent stereo pan, I love how the vocals sound on this tape. A good one to get, the band is on fire!
  • Soundboard 9.5 - So I haven’t kept up with this band since Steve Morse joined. I’ve always loved them, but they just fell off my radar. It was with great pleasure that I reacquainted myself with them as I reviewed this show. It’s multi-layered, multi-dimensional music with some resemblance to the old band if Ritchie traded places with his Southern fried twin brother!  I mean, it works, don’t get me wrong – but it can fool you because it’s not Ritchie’s band by any stretch. I like this one maybe a little better to be honest. This is a “deeper” Deep Purple actually, and the orchestra behind them makes it that much more interesting, if sometimes a little bit “cabaret” but it still rocks when it has to and the guitar work by Morse is impeccable. • Oldenburg, Germany 1971 - Audience 8.3 - The star of this 2CD  (guitar smoking hot!) / Rome, Italy 1971 - Audience 6.7 - Very noisy and brassy.
  • Audience 8.4 - Keyboards shine, all other instruments a little behind keys but clearly heard.
  • Audience 7.7 - This sounds way better than I remember it from years ago, not to say it is marvelous, but what I can tell you is that Ian and Jon are absolute beasts here, the intensity is off the charts folks. Because of where the sound spectrum is (focuses on vocals and keys) you get the idea maybe you won’t hear Ritchie but when he solos the guitar is riding the top of everything which is a relief. So, all in all a spectacular show, mediocre recording that sounds better than it ever has. I consider this along with the Hiroshima gig of the same year to be essential for real fans due to the insane levels of intensity present.
  • Audience 7.8 - The best of the tour and in fact Tommy is very cohesive here. A must for fans of DP and Tommy Bolin.
  • Audience 8.9 - This is one helluva nice find! First of all, it was new to me to begin with, but the kicker is that it is just great, and a furious show with outstanding performances by everyone. • Soundboard 9.3 - OK, let me explain why the high rating here. Technically speaking, the actual audio quality is more like 8.8 to be honest…but this tape is so MUCH more than that and deserves a super high rating because of it. Let me explain: First of all, the audio is good enough to get excellent separation of instruments, that allows you to hear the detail of the guitar and drums, with a driving keyboard and clear vocals…and that is important because a certain new vocalist is hoping to impress in front of a London audience – and he does, they ALL do in a major way especially Blackmore. See, Richie is one of those guitarists that really goes for it, and sometimes it works and sometimes he is probably not inspired as much so it falls a little flat…not here! He’s simply brilliant and when I hear him like this I remember to include him on my all time greatest guitarists list ha ha!  This rating is for the spectacular event this gig is, and how happy we should be to hear it clearly. • Audience 7.3 - 8.0 - Gets better as the show progresses. Let me just say this – I think this show is hotter than the officially released Live album! Maybe because when a band knows they are being recorded, they are less “free” in their playing. I don’t know but this show is off the hook jamming, wish it sounded a little better but even so I am happy to get to hear it.
  • CD 1 - Heidelberg 1970 - Audience  6.5  /  CD 2 - Amsterdam 1970 - Audience  7.3
  • Audience 7.7 - Hard to find many really good quality shows from this period, but as it goes this one is not terrible just boost some bass and it is much better.
  • Audience 8.4  - I think the draw is, when you are dealing with these old audience tapes that don’t have very wide dynamic range, is that as long as you get a solid guitar, and reasonable vocals, it’s going to appeal to collectors because what they want is the performance mainly – and I tend to agree because this is after all the peak period for the band. You can hear guitar, vocals, and keys in pretty decent clarity and forceful too – I see the value in this recording, a little rough around the edges when band is at full flight due to limitations with the recorder, but let me tell you I hung around, listened to the whole thing, and came away satisfied. It’s not too bad! Palasport, Genova, Italy March 11, 1973

  • Audience 6.8 - Very thin, but a low gen tape used here so it is pretty clear and guitar is the most present along with Ian and a pretty prominent kick drum too. The show is marvelous wish it sounded better.
  • Audience  7.8 - Crowded a bit in the middle, but not bad enough to lose any one instrument. In fact, the guitar and bass complement each other in the mix like a battle of giants. I will say also that the performance itself is a real jam fest, with everyone shining bright. I like this one a lot.
  • CD 1 & 2 - Audience  8.9 - Very strong presence, taper had great seats and knew how to operate his levels, so, have fun because the band never sounded better! CD 3 & 4 - This show received a nice remastering which helped bring the middle up and cut out a lot of the tape hiss so what you get now is a smoother sound, and good punch in the mids while offering great solid kick drum, vocals, and guitar with keys being placed perfectly in accompaniment. Just get past the first song where taper finds his position and you are good to go.
