Soundboard 9.7 - Spectacular! They play what sounds like, to my ears, the same vintage equipment they must have used originally, or maybe their equipment was new in 1973 but I guess it is vintage now…as are the dudes ha ha! Anyway, this is simply a MUST if you love classic heavy Italian prog of the 70’s. Audience 8.5 - Pretty middle of the road, not annoying or bad, but not crystal clear. Hard to hear any detail in the guitars, it’s on the bassy side, so it’s bass and Jagger, and some locomotive sound which could be Keith and Ronnie. I mean, it is clear enough, it’s not a “bad” tape at all – in fact listening closely I am tempted to say this was pulled from a video source. Audience 8.9 - Very lively, great atmosphere! Sound is very very good, and the mix that gets to your ears includes everything happening on stage but what I really love is the sound of the drums. Fills the arena yet is pretty tight, with that slight bouncing off the walls effect that gives an almost 360 degree experience. Audience 8.6 This is a pretty common Who boot, and, well, it’s fine but to me I thought guitar was too low in the mix. It’s a rollicking good show, bass, vocals sound strong followed by Moon, and to be fair, during quieter parts Townshend’s guitar is clearer. It’s during the heavy parts where guitar loses force (it’s there, it’s not completely gone!) and probably it saves the tape deck from overloading so I’d rather it a little behind in the mix than completely distorting the tape. Audience 8,4 - Somewhat distant, but not the kind of distant that means taper is in nose bleed section, it’s still pretty clear. Fidelity is decent, not a real “full” sound but I got everything including piano in this. There’s some hiss, in the background mostly while music is playing it’s not a bother. I think most fans are going to appreciate this tape, it’s good. The Rolling Stones - Mannheim, September 3. 1973 CD 1: 1. Intro 2. Brown Sugar 3. Bitch 4. Gimme Shelter 5. Happy 6. Soundboard 9.6 - This tour was well documented with a plethora of expertly recorded board tapes. This is no exception, the quality, both in terms of sound and mix, is worthy of official release. Then there is the other measure of greatness – performance. Audience 8.8 - Most likely master tape source here, there’s no tape noise it is super clear. More emphasis on the upper mid and highs, but it’s not shrill or anything like that. Audience 8.8 - I can’t believe it was 32 years ago I attended, and recorded, this concert. It was my birthday present, although this actually went down one day before my b-day. It’s weird because Joe also sang “Birthday” the classic Beatles song (and it wasn’t for me although I imagined that it was ha ha!). This recording is only now being made available, and it sounds great and just how I remember it, with Joe being very animated and playing lots of numbers not normally played, and telling funny stories. It was a great night, I had a blast. Audience 8.8 - A very nice effort, sounds like the taper had pretty good gear. I hear a little bit of distortion in a very specific place in the middle band, not anything to ruin the experience but it is present and sounds like someone made an effort to clean it up in remastering. This is a worthwhile listen. Audience 9.1 - Excellent stuff, because you get a clean, well balanced capture with all the best elements of a live atmosphere.
