Audience 9.3 - As good as it could be for a large stadium concert. Despite the soundmen fighting mic feedback issues during the first few songs, it certainly gets dialed in and becomes quite nice with the feeling of this being an event, the atmosphere, the way the sound sort of envelopes your ears and you get a sense of size and space. Really sweet! -
Audience 9.5 - Astounding for a 1970 era audience tape, it's got amazing atmosphere and plenty of headroom. The balance here is really good with vocals where they should be, which is very up front, but drums sound fantastic here and the piano sounds perfectly mixed between the two. I can't find too much to complain about with this one. Fantastic! Audience 9.2 - A very interesting tour that featured just two individuals on stage working in coordination to bring audiences a new perspective on Elton’s music…and it works marvelously. Audio quality here is great, and that is a huge benefit to the listener as they get to enjoy the subtleties of what is happening on stage, including the witty banter between songs. Audience 9.1 - Capturing the unbridled excitement of the flamboyant maestro in his prime in Los Angeles during perhaps his biggest tour. What more can you ask for? The sound is great (especially the drums!) and the appreciative audience never intrudes onto the recording. Audience 9.1 - A lovely, intimate recording that belies the size of the venue. Of course, this was a different approach Elton John undertook on this tour. I think it works well, the bombast has been toned down and what you get instead is an examination of his music presented to you by the man…I think you will appreciate these songs in this way. Audience 8.9 - It’s amazing how tapes still pop up after so many years and sound like they were recorded yesterday. This is one such tape. The music also holds up, and since I never saw Elton John live I am still impressed with how much the guitar factors in to this show. I enjoyed this performance and I felt the excitement of the crowd and felt totally transported which is the hallmark of a well-done recording. Audience 8.4 - Very decent, with good clarity on guitars, some tape noise present but not intruding on the sounds of the music. Sometimes this gets a little over saturated but not to distortion, just more in a little cluttering but this is still way too good of a gig, and a very decent capture, so I can’t slag on it just because there are some minor flaws. -
Audience 8.0 - Very forceful and loud capture, some taper conversations present, but a very immediate live feeling as if this could have been taped a couple of years ago. Some high frequencies have a squelchiness to them, but when the band is all playing together the audio retains a more comfortable timbre. Overall this is pretty good stuff, and very heady music. I’ve heard people compare them to Pink Floyd, and to be honest I do hear that in some of their compositions, but that is not entirely accurate in describing them. Maybe if you said they were stylistically similar to PF but with a Deep Purplish ensemble approach to the sound, you would be closer. -
Audience 8.2 - A good sounding recording if you want to just know what is happening on stage and don’t mind a perfectly balanced mix, or crispness in the highs. Some breaking up at volume, where the intensity of this band is just too much for the tapers equipment. Still, I have to tell you, there is reward in this tape if you stick it out. Not saying it gets that much better, but I am saying this is one GREAT rock band! Just overwhelming intensity, and interesting compositions, it keeps you interested to hear what happens next. -
Audience 8.8 - A very pleasant, easy on the ears recording. There's a lot of positive atmosphere and some mild audience participation but this is definitely one you can get into. Not much from this tour, so it is very good to be able to hear them as they were in 1982. Electric Light Orchestra Saarbrucken, Germany March 4, 1982 Disc 1 1. Twilight 2. Yours Truly 2095 3. Audience 8.9 - Just the right amount of sonic clarity and separation of instruments with “live atmosphere” to make for a realistic listening experience. Sounds much like what you could have expected having been there. This was also the last show of the tour. Excellent! -
Audience 8.8 - A show new to circulation, it presents a severely under represented period of the band. Not too many tapes have surfaced (and no known videos) so whatever we can get, we appreciate. Here, taper did an admiral job even though he's clearly immersed in a boisterous audience. There is plenty of audience present, but thankfully what you get most of is a relatively clear and atmospheric ELO on a great night. There is a touch of overcrowding within the mid-range frequency, but nothing that distorts so there's zero muddiness and maybe less low end that you might prefer. Overall I have to say it fits nicely into my ELO collection right next to the one or two other 1981 shows (like I said, few and far between).Electric Light Orchestra Civic Center Hartford, Connecticut Time Tour 1981Disc 11. Audience 7.3 - Don’t let the poor rating diminish what is a very rare artifact. No other recordings of this period exist, which is hard to believe. Coming from a master cassette, the sound is cavernous and not well defined, but it is also very clear which may sound impossible but it’s true. It’s clean, and not a complete waste at all. In fact, I listened to it, gave it a chance, and decided that it is acceptable for hard core fans who want to know what White Trash sounded like live, in Detroit, in 1977. And they were stunning, to be honest. -
Audience 9.5 - Unbelievably awesome! Strap yourself in and get ready to hear just how insanely good a well done audience recording can be. This recording also includes a couple of songs by the opening act Climax Blues Band. Audience 8.8 - This is the good stuff, seriously good I mean. What you are getting in this one is a band really unstoppable, with a monstrous hit in Frankenstein that the audience is going nuts for and for good reason – a penultimate version that will leave you completely floored. Very strong recording puts you in the action with a front row seat. I love it! Aud/FM? 7.7 - Hard to say really what the source is for this one. To my ears, it sounds like it was recorded for local broadcast, and being the year 1974 was probably sponsored by a local AM radio station It sounds like the engineers did spare the expense of the recording, so, yeah, it’s less than what you might expect of a broadcast. -
Audience 9.7 - There’s no way this isn’t a professional recording, it’s too good and it doesn’t come across as a board tape but it could be, if they used some ambient mics and mixed that in but either way this is simply spectacular. If you are wondering how Eddie must sound now with so many years removed from grunge I have news for you – he sounds as good as ever and his band is great, and the songs he performs in his set are all great. Recorded in 1977 by a group of musicians who brought different perspectives into the equation. Very much an English folk psyche type of record but features a lot of Eastern influence with the introduction of Sitar, and tablas (and other sounds), an ethereal vibe permeates as Moog synthesizers weave in and out of the music. Lots of heavy, mystical vibe on this one. -
Audience 9.1 -A fantastic tape that gets the right amount of atmosphere to give you a good sense of the moment, the venue, the crowd. The quality of the sound is very clean and punchy although leans toward an upper mid band frequency at the expense of the bottom end. It’s not as full a sound as could have been but it’s an excellent quality of sound nonetheless. The music is very engaging, this is a most welcomed tape. Audience 9.0 - An incredible document from The Netherlands that you can’t deny. I am a huge fan of this band, and of Jerney Kaggman in particular (one look will indicate the simple reason why), but seriously if you have any interest at all in progressive rock and have not yet discovered this band, this is a great opportunity to take a chance I promise you won’t regret it. Sound quality here is very good, capturing the power and finesse of the band and with this fine lady singer it’s like you don’t even need a PA because her soaring, soulful voice pierces the veil of sound with ease.
