    ROKY ERICKSON – Baton Rouge 1982 (2DVD)

Original price was: $23.49.Current price is: $22.00.
Rare footage shot with Sony open reel video system (CV-2000 tape format B/W). Entire performance spanning 2 discs (encoded for optimal quality). This comes from the 3/4" Umatic master tapes (CV-2000 reels transferred onto 3/4"). Quality is fair, poor lighting hampered the video shoot, but for historical purposes most fans will find this fascinating due to the exceptional performance of the band and Roky in particular.
  • Audience 9.3 - Another spectacular capture that presents a detailed soundfield and plenty of atmosphere to sink yourself into the show as if you were there. Excellent!
  • Audience 8.9 - Most of the recent tour recordings are excellent and all offer something different for the ears in terms of atmosphere, intensity, and clarity. This one I find has less of an emphasis on separation of instruments and more on depth of bass and overall sound. The guitar comes right at you, and the bass is nicely anchoring the bottom, drums are not as clear but still nicely placed. So, overall I like what this recording delivers.
  • FM Broadcast 9.6 - The one show to get if you are looking to add the Roger Waters KAOS tour to your collection. Spotless! • Audience 9.4  (both shows) - Expertly recorded from optimal position with high end gear. Clear and nuanced, with some headroom allowing for the atmosphere of the event to add another dimension to the sonically excellent captures.
  • Audience 9.4 - Almost sounds like a radio broadcast, and you’d be forgiven for insisting it is such, but to me it sounds like a good transfer from vinyl of a great audience recording, with some artifacts occasionally (like momentary drop-outs). The track listing on the cover differs slightly from the disc tracking but whatever was recorded by this source is present and accounted for. Other sources exist, and are inferior, so no patching was done to fill out anything missing. Seems like a complete show, maybe one song missing?

  • Audience 8.9 - A great effort here by the taper, it’s got a little bit of that “just about to break” quality, where the limits of the tape are just about reached…yet it holds together. This gives the recording an unmistakable intensity, and for that I rate this highly and say it will be most enjoyable to the listener. • Audience 9.8 - Spectacular recording that captures every nuance with beautiful clarity and dynamics while allowing just enough crowd and ambience in to perfect the listening experience. So F’ING good I defy anyone to challenge my assessment.
  • Audience 9.7 - The title asks the question “is this the mix we really want?” and the answer is most emphatically “YES”! Brilliant sound, like you are sitting right in the front row center…why spend the money, get this CD instead!

    ROGER WATERS – Brazil 2002 (1CD)

Original price was: $16.49.Current price is: $13.49.
Soundboard 9.8 - Great presence on vocals and guitars, bass is completely in the pocket and the mix is flawless. I am glad the keyboards are not buried because they add so much to the sound.
  • Audience 9.7 - This is the result of VERY diligent and committed tapers. First: get there early. Second: don’t leave until the last bit of sound comes out the P.A. Then, do a damn fine job! That sums up this experience, because that is what it is: An Experience. Well done sir!
  • Studio quality 9.1 - OK, now let me be perfectly clear about what I think about this…I have no clue what to think about this. I leave that up to you. All I can say is the quality is great. • Audience 9.4 - A wonderful, warm, full bodied recording that beckons you in from the first note. Say what you will about Rod Stewart but his voice works with this stuff, and even here in 1982 as long as you can’t see him you can appreciate the rock and roll pedigree he brings to the stage. Yeah, I was rather turned off by his image for quite some time, but hearing him live you just find a way to look past that. • Soundboard 9.8 - If you like the Faces, then you’d probably love this. Say what you will of the late 70’s Rod Stewart, and I know the image will be of those horrible TV commercials advertising his solo records, but wait a second before you dismiss this – it SMOKES!  Yes, it’s great.
