  • Audience 9.1 - A good atmospheric recording with the sound coming at you front and center channel with power. I love the song selection, a lot of focus on the music, not that I mind the vocals but you get more band interplay at this show.
  • Studio Quality 9.7 - Fantastic all around collection which I would also point to as a good starting point to building up a collection of The Cure music. For me it was particularly interesting as I had no prior familiarity with their studio works.   • Soundboard 9.7 - This one has a great mid range tightness, and well rounded bottom end without sacrificing any highs at all. It’s pro for sure. Really tasty!
  • Audience 8.8 - This came as a total surprise as I never knew it existed…and man, I gotta tell ya this is f’kin AWESOME!  This is a band that is crucial to the burgeoning British punk movement but they owe more to the MC5 than the Sex Pistols. This one off show features the band going under the moniker The Doomed because they have a certain Lemmy Kilmister on bass. What a high energy, totally wild and crazy fun gig too! Good sound quality, thankfully!  Great setlist with a nice handful of covers that highlight their influences (they even do Silver Machine from Hawkwind!).   • Audience  7.0 - Do not expect much here, it is not a hi-fi experience at all – but it is a fascinating document and good enough to pull you in to a pretty explosive Doors show. I live for this kind of thing – a tormented sounding Jim Morrison in 1968 basically at the vanguard of the Great American Cultural Renaissance.

  • Audience  7.2 - Distant and a little muddy but all instruments and especially Jim are there. Worth it!
  • Soundboard  8.7 - To my ears it’s a soundboard, a little hissy, and somewhat noisy mix but definitely one you can get into.
  • Audience  6.8 - Jim is clearly audible despite the lo-fi.
  • Audience  8.0 - Very good bit of history right here and it sounds pretty darn good too. Definite Must!
  • Seattle 1970 FM Broadcast 9.4 - So good to have clear and vibrant live Doors recordings…there’s just not enough of them out there. Hypnotic, and with Jim at the helm it’s a feast for the imagination as to what shenanigans were happening on stage. Cool as HECK! Detroit 1970 FM Broadcast 9.2 - Nice, clean, concise and this is how I want to hear The Doors. There’s so much subtlety and intrigue and you need to be able to hear everything clearly…and with this tape you do. For the track listing on this one, please review the images as we posted a clear photo of the track sheet.  
  • Soundboard  8.9 - Quality of recording is excellent, although they have to tweak the mix during the show especially the beginning of show 1, but that aside, it is a fantastic document!
  • Audience 8.7 - I had a hard time determining whether it was the recording or the PA that caused this tape to fall below the usually excellent quality recordings coming out of the Inglewood Forum around this same time. It’s not terrible; the main issue was an overcrowding of the middle bandwidth. So you get plenty of bottom end and soaring high end (where most guitar leads and vocals, and yes, cymbals are clear) but a lack of separation in that crucial middle. That leaves us with a tape clearly made on decent gear, somewhere in the middle of the venue it sounds like, and likely a master source (zero tape noise), but just not delivering the kind of clarity you would want when you are trying to hear the magical guitar interplay, especially Joe Walsh who just has his own musicality that perks your ears up. Still, a good tape that is worthy of exploration and much appreciated being from that wonderful line-up that featured perennial fave Joe Walsh. The overall timbre of the sound is warm, a lot of depth and backup vocals are not buried, it’s really a nicely rounded and rather democratic mix.   • Audience 9.2 - This is a really decent recording, it does sort of lean towards an upper mid range emphasis but not to the tape’s detriment, it’s just that is where most of the action is. The drums have a realistic sound, very live and thunderous without being boomy. Vocals are incredibly present and up front here, so this recording has an immediate impact when you listen and it captivates you all the way through to the end.   • The year of original recording is not specified on the CD but it looks to be late 60's. CD is new, never played.
  • Audience 8.3 - A fine recording all things considered. It’s a big hall, recording comes from somewhere in the middle of the arena but the capture is reasonable albeit without a good definition and some mild boominess. Overall you can be happy with this recording and of course the band has a fine repertoire.
  • Audience 8.7 - Both very decent recordings capturing a band that is on the cusp of breaking up, but holding it together very nicely for the shows. Interesting stage banter and occasional extended lead jamming present, certainly worthy of your consideration.
  • Soundboard 9.0 and Audience 8.6 - This is a very interesting document of a period of time in the band’s history where they lost a key member of the band in guitarist Randy Bachman. That did not stop them, as these shows attest. Quality varies but is consistently good across all shows with the first part being Soundboard and the rest very clear and reasonably dynamic Audiences.
  • CD 1 - Soundboard 8.3  /  CD 2 - Soundboard 8.8  /  CD 3 - Soundboard 8.8 What a difference from 1966 to 1975! I rather like the 70’s Guess Who more, but fascinating to hear their formative sound and style.

  • Audience 8.7 - This is a solid effort, it captures a typically rowdy J. Geils party atmosphere without sacrificing the music at all. Taper has good seats, and he manages not to get too bumped around because it sounds like a lot of stuff was being consumed this evening in 1972. A good one to have! J.     Early and Late Shows - Soundboard 9.1 and Soundboard 8.6 - The late show board tape is slightly problematic in that vocals and to some extent the drums are really prominent in the mix but the rest is pushed back. Acoustic songs come through nicely, they bring up piano and acoustic guitar so you get everything more even. At times it gets a little better, it’s not bad it’s just not as good a mix as the early show.
  • Audience 8.4 - A very rare treat, to hear a complete “Preservation” era show. There’s really not a lot of 1973 recording around. This one sounds just fine, while not venturing too far in either direction dynamically, and some lack of clarity down low in the spectrum…but the upper mids and highs seem fine. It’s a good recording that could use your own EQ flavoring to round it into shape. I am happy to have this as I have not heard many, if any, ’73 tapes as good as this.   • Audience 8.6 - Talk about being in the crowd, this recording is total immersion if ever there was immersion! But, here’s the good news – it’s a BLAST!  The crowd is really an integral part of this performance, the band senses they have a great audience and they really play to them. It’s rather fun and gives you a tremendous feeling of nostalgia. A great ride!
  • Audience 9.0 - Fantastic recording really, in fact I can only try and be real nitpicky to try to find anything outright bad about it. It’s close up, warm, atmospheric (I don’t mean echo or reverb either), and pretty good separation of instruments. Kick drum is even present, so it is also detailed. Good One!
  • Audience 8.4 - A very rare tape here, new to circulation and not bad, but not great either. What is the downside? Recorded towards the back of the hall, and some consistent tape noise that crowds the middle a little. The upside?  It’s actually not bad sounding for all that was against it, you get used to it and after a few minutes you realize it’s very listenable. The crowd is pretty rowdy, I heard fireworks going off at one point – and they really love their Kinks in Cape Cod. I like this for the collectors, they will appreciate it.   • Audience 8.7 - This tape, when it first surfaced, was to many Kinks collectors the Holy Grail of live tapes. It marked the band’s triumphant return to the States, and the band was determined to make up for lost time. A fiery performance and a great capture. A tiny bit of tape chatter in the first track but it smooths out from there and is a real rocket ride!   • Audience 8.7 - A kick ass show and quality is perfectly suited for the kind of loud and raucous music the Kinks made…albeit with excellent melodic sense.  Recording has loads of power without overloading so I believe taper was using very good stuff for the time.
