  • 2 Shows: CD 1 - Audience 8.3 - A very good, reasonably clear tape that does not showcase a wide dynamic range but doesn’t really need to, I mean to say, it’s an historic artifact that most fans and collectors of Love/Arthur Lee will be very happy to hear. CD 2 - Audience 8.1 - This tape starts off kind of rough but gradually gets better until it gets to a consistency that you can appreciate for what it is. It does not take much of the show before it gets better which is a relief because it is a good, strong show. Disc 3 is a video CD (MP4 file) of 6 minutes, very Rare, never before seen b/w video footage of Love a few days before the show on disc one.

CD 1 - Audience 7.4 - Tape a little hissy, but since the highs are preserved we can live with that. It’s pretty clear at times, and then sometimes a touch cluttered up but overall the listener can appreciate this old tape for the explosive performance captured decently for the time. CD 2 - Audience 7.4 - A very powerful low end is the hallmark of this tape, and then there’s Robert, man this is his show! A good tape, a great performance. CD 3 Audience 7.3 - Unlike the other FE 69 recordings, this tape showcases Jimmy’s guitar, and of course Robert who probably would not even need a microphone he is so dynamic. This show he is literally just phenomenal sounding.

Audience 9.4 - What a fantastic recording! Seriously, the louder you crank it, the better it sounds. Beautiful, full round bass, punchy and clear drums and guitar that is not washed out by P.A. and hall dynamics. Good show atmosphere, appreciative home crowd, and a band inspired and having loads of fun. Hot damn!

Soundboard 9.8  - You can’t do much better than these, mainly because the board tape itself is full of life and expertly mixed in contrast to other more sterile boards. The other is because the band is firing on all cylinders, and taking improvisation to dizzying heights as evidence by the No Quarter, Dazed and Confused marathon improve sections.

Audience 8.1 - I was expecting the worst when I became aware of this recently surfaced show, but to my surprise it isn’t all that bad. It’s lacking some depth and low end but it is clear, and close, and shows some detail. It’s a fine recording, and if you have a subwoofer, well there ya go.

Soundboard 9.6 (March 19th) - This is, of course, a must have. In my opinion, John Paul Jones emerges as the star of the show. Robert’s voice takes a little bit before it smooths out, he was having some problems around this time.  Overall, this is as enjoyable as it gets.

    AEROSMITH – Backstage Pass 1974-1977 (3CD)

Original price was: $28.49.Current price is: $26.49.
CD 1 - Audience 7.7 - A very rare tape that only recently surfaced. Hard to complain when presented with something as rare, so just be aware that the tape was recorded in the middle of the venue and features a boomy, echoey sound. CD 2 - A very good recording, clear and immersive, you can really get into this one. CD 3 Surprisingly clear, a welcome addition to the not so well documented 1977 period where the band starts to really fray around the edges (and in the middle!) but that is not evident here – this is the band in fine form.
  • Audience 9.1 - This recording is very very clean, and there is a ton of headroom where literally you can turn the volume all the way up and still get a very clean sound. There almost needs to be more mid punch, and at times, probably in sections that have been patched with a different source, there is a noticeable increase in volume/mid band. This could also be something with the taper, I do not know. Either way this recording is pretty damn good. Frank Zappa 1988-04-29 Helsinki, Finland Jäähalli Set 1: 01. tuning 00:50 02. • CD1 FM Broadcast 8.8 A little hiss present, and a little “compression” but a good tight sound nonetheless. The Miami 78 is Audience 8.3 With some big hall boom in the kick drum. CD 2 Audience 8.5 Thin in some places, but opens wider as it goes along. Taper possibly moves closer, and sound improves. CD 3 Audience 8.6 A loud, boisterous, beer soaked rock and roll affair with sound quality that I would describe as clear but missing some mid-band punch. It’s nice to have a chronological history sometimes, you get to hear a band just gain more and more confidence (not as if this band ever lacked any). This band’s sound and style really was custom made for these years but after that it dropped off the map. Too bad really, it’s a good time rock and roll music and transcends time. • Audience + FM Interview 8.9 - The big question then is “if I already have the show, do I need this”?  Quick answer is “yes, kind of”. If you collect live shows because you want to experience that moment in time, then you want this. Firstly, it’s direct from original masters, as is the rare FM interview, it’s in the proper running sequence, and it edges the well circulated “Santa Monica” title by a smidgeon in terms of quality. It also presents a day in the life of the band, then still two years shy of releasing their world famous masterpiece and becoming obscenely wealthy and…different, or I should say “indifferent”. • CD 1,2 - Hammersmith, UK - Audience  7.3 - Big and loud stadium sound but you can hear all instruments and there’s reasonable clarity if not a touch of boominess. CD 3 - Milan, Italy - Audience  8.8 - Excellent capture!
  • Soundboard  9.3 - Guitars literally leap out of the speakers in this mix. Not 100% if it is actually a board tape because there’s some atmosphere, at least with vocals and drums.
  • Audience  9.3 - Strong recording!
  • Audience  8.5 - Average for a newer recording, although at times it gets clearer possibly because taper moves into a better spot. Sometimes a very annoying wooer makes his stupid presence known and worse he has to attempt to sing along often out of key and not getting the words right. Why? Why must you? Next time stay home and listen to the records by yourself.
  • Pro 8.8 - At times this recording gets even better but there are tape problems, what sounds like tracking issues (if this came from a video source), but overall it is very good and was taped professionally for broadcast. The DVD is pro shot, but suffers from age deterioration, tracking issues, color bleed, etc. but in fairness it is a very old video format and those old ¾” umatic tapes either held up or they failed, that these still played is amazing.
  • Bracknell - Audience 8.8 - A touch of tape saturation but it’s so clear and loud and energetic you won’t hardly notice. Excellent! ~ Coatham - Audience 8.7 ~ Tampa - Soundboard 8.9
  • Soundboard 9.3 - Simply a MUST HAVE if you have any interest at all in Genesis. Includes some backstage interviews, giving an amazing perspective of this epic show. Enchanting!
  • Soundboard? Sounds like it to me, just perfect! 9.8
  • Soundboard 9.4   (all three discs)
  • Audience 7.4 - For the first half of the show containing the Edgar Winter and Leon Russell sets, and 8.2 for the duration, which is cool because now you have a complete picture of the entire evening, start to finish, which you rarely find. As the tape progresses, rather than diminish, it brightens and opens up for pretty much the entire Gregg Allman set. Not that it is horrible, just that it occupies a mid range bandwidth without straying into too many dynamics. Tape does not distort, and does not peak, so what you get is a consistent capture that gets progressively better as the evening wears on. This tape has never been heard prior to the release of this set.
  • Audience 8.7 - A little squashed with guitar kind of low, vocals not bad, drums and bass OK although there’s no great separation of instruments. The good news is the louder you get the better this sounds, strange I know. The show itself? Good rock and roll, what else can you say about these guys?
  • Pro 9.3 - Sonically superior but the truth is it all depends on what you want out of the live mix. I think its fine myself but some may have opted for more up front vocals. Overall it is quite good.
  • CD 1 - Inglewood 1977 - Soundboard 9.2  /  CD 2,3 - Fresno - Audience 9.0
  • Audience 9.3 - Turn it up, it just gets better and better. A wide open stereo sound field lets the music breath and soar.
  • Audience 7.7 - 7.9 - All 3 shows sound like they were done by the same crew. All are decent, nothing spectacular, but consistent and enjoyable without displaying a lot of activity in the upper or lower frequencies. Can be enjoyed is what I am saying.
