• FM Broadcast 8.8 - A tape that sounds…1978. That doesn’t mean it’s bad at all, it’s just a rather dated sounding broadcast to my ears. That means it kind of captures the time period rather well, and the quality itself is pretty good, but not exhibiting the usual dynamic of an FM broadcast. Not enough 1978 era tapes of excellent quality though, so grab this one. • Soundboard 8.8 - A very old sounding tape that received a recent “facelift” giving it some more punch while reducing tape noise (without compromising any high end). What you end up with is another very good early performance (whilst the band was still doing some Pretties For You numbers) in very good quality. I never get tired of the early Alice Cooper stuff, even if I still don’t understand “Sun Arise” ha ha! • Soundboard  8.8 - Good to hear this material live, the band was so good in 1971, this board tape reveals that.

  • Audience 9.2 - Very clear and a good amount of atmosphere to give you a real sense of what it was like to be there. I also like how the bass and guitar sound, some tasty tonality to sink your ears into.
  • CD 1 - Soundboard  9.2 CD 2 - Audience  8.9
  • Soundboard 9.2 - A lot of free form jamming here, what they call Mountain Jam is really made up of some improvisation before the band goes off into this more structured jam, and the show is a little condensed but sounds like it is much longer than it actually is. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Columbia HS Auditorium Decatur, GA May 23, 1970 1. Mountain Jam Intro 2. Drums 3. Berry Bass Solo 4. Mountain Jam 5. Will The Circle Be Unbroken 6. Bo Diddely / Spacy Jam 7. • Soundboard 9.3 - This is a rough and tumble sort of board tape. Obviously never meant to be used in any official release, but it does certainly get the job done regardless. Very definitive instrument separation so you can concentrate on any instrument you want and you will get maximum information out of it – until you choose another one and then you will get stuck on that one. • Chicago 1971 FM Radio broadcast 8.9 - Some generation loss and general passing of time has degraded the sound slightly but this version received a “freshening” which helps a lot. So, it’s a bona fide solid addition to anyone’s collection. Memphis 1971 Audience 8.3 - I had the luxury of being able to hear this tape before it was remastered and that would be the only way you can really appreciate how that simply removed what sounded like a layer of muck and grime, and revealed a shimmering sound that leapt out of the speakers… I am talking of course about Duane’s guitar. So, if you want to appreciate again what the guitar playing of Duane Allman was really all about then this recording will still cause shivers down your spine. Is it a great recording?  Not really, but there’s something here that still pulls you in (mainly it’s Duane). Austin 1971 Soundboard 9.0 - A tape that, while incomplete (some songs fade in and fade out, mainly the first and last) still has to be carefully considered when examining the few remaining live recordings featuring Duane. There’s always something interesting and, hmmm, maybe even a little mystical about these vintage recordings. Allman Brothers Band Live Collection 1971 Disc 1 WXRT Chicago, IL, 1971 1. • Soundboard 9.1 - Fantastic! I’ve always known there was something recorded at the famous Whiskey-A-Go-Go by the band but had never run across it until now. It’s a nice and relaxed show with great guitar interplay (as usual) and tight backing (listen to Berry’s bass solo it’s on point). THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Whiskey A-Go-Go Los Angeles, CA January 24, 1970 1. Don't Keep Me Wonderin' 2. Stormy Monday 3. In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed 4. Trouble No More 5. Dreams 6. Mountain Jam
  • Audience 8.7 - It’s definitely rare to find unknown Allman Brothers recordings featuring Duane, and here we have one new to circulation. The sound quality is very good, it really is from the master (obvious when you hear how clean it is) and it sounds like it has been gently mastered for optimum fidelity. A great find! • Soundboard  9.3 - Pro radio broadcast.
  • Audience 8.2 - A loud and raucous tape, with a band of noise in the upper mid frequency that prevents better separation of instruments. Saving grace?  Duane is the clearest instrument on this recording – in fact it is his guitar that soars over the sound to the degree that you almost inevitably focus solely on him throughout.  As it happens, Gregg’s vocals are next up in the mix. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Academy Of Music, New York August 15, 1971 Disc 1 1. -Statesboro Blues 2. -Trouble No More 3. -Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’ 4. -Done Somebody Wrong 5. -One Way Out 6. -In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Disc 2 1. -Blue Sky 2. -Midnight Rider 3. -Hot ‘Lanta 4. -You Don’t Love Me - Soul Serenade - You Don’t Love Me 5. -Revival
  • Soundboard 8.8 - It’s a board tape, a little on the flat side but if you want to hear the whole band and what they are playing I guess this one is going to be right on point for you. Allman Brothers Band Palace Theatre Albany, NY 03/03/73 01. -Wasted Words 02. -Done Somebody Wrong 03. -Statesboro Blues 04. -Ain't Wastin' Time No More 05. -One Way Out 06. -Stormy Monday 07. -Midnight Rider 08. -Jessica - Bomb Scare - Jessica 09. -Trouble No More 10. -In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed
  • Audience 8.8 - A fierce sounding tape that has been re-mastered and shows some depth and instrument separation that previously was not there. The vocals at times are drowned out in the sheer onslaught of bass, drums, and guitars. The band even reminds a little of Deep Purple (check out “Every Hungry Woman” as a prime example) with keyboards featuring prominently so be ready for what is best described as heavier than normal Allman Brothers. THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND Georgia Tech Coliseum, Atlanta, GA May 9, 1970 Disc One 1.  -Statesboro Blues 2.  -Trouble No More 3.  -Dreams 4.  - Hoochie Coochie Man 5.  -I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town 6.  -Every Hungry Woman 7.  -Oh Pretty Woman 8.  -In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed Disc Two 1.  -Stormy Monday 2.  -Dimples 3.  -Whipping Post 4.  - Mountain Jam - Hot Lanta'
  • Audience 8.8 - A great, atmospheric and electrically charged show! Not a lot of heaviness to the bottom, but there is a roundness there, a pleasant to the ears mid rangy kind of sound with a lot of articulation on the high end (not shrill!) which causes the slide work from Duane to fill the hall and make for tons of electricity. Collectors will love this one. Now, one small thing to report, there is sometimes some minor static on the tape (barely noticeable) but it’s no bother. Get this!
