SDBRD 9.8 - Fantastic upgrade to what was already a super good tape. Why is it so much better? Transferring off a newly discovered pre-broadcast master, you really can get all the ambience, the background, the crisper highs and deeper lows…all of this adds up to something really special. Even if you already have this, I recommend getting this upgrade version if nothing else just to compare the two. I think this ups the ante significantly. Audience 9.3 - Fantastic! Wow, I’d never heard this one previously and it’s a real revelation. Open, great stereo pan, and for once I actually heard the keyboards and I could not even believe some of the little quirky bits that it added to the music. Audience 9.7 - both of these shows were recorded onto a 4-track machine which is clearly obvious when you hear just how crystal this stuff sounds, as well as the separation of instruments. Some minor stuff does occur with the old tape in a couple spots but that passes without much fuss, it’s hard to knock these recordings but I do have to let you know what I hear. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Upper Darby 1975 Audience 8.7 - This is not an easy one to pull off – you have to give a lot of credit to this taper as he’s trying to capture an excessively loud and aggressive rock band in a smallish club. That means you’d better be in a good spot with a tape machine that can prevent distortion due to high volume. Taper got those two essentials right. What is the flaw then? I would say unless you are super picky, you really will understand the value of this tape. Good sound quality, you hear everything (both guitars clear!), drums, bass even! So it isn’t board tape perfect, but I think this rare 1975 audience tape belongs in every fan’s collection. It is that good. Central Park 1975 Soundboard 9.8 - What a thrill this is! Audience 8.8 - I am very thankful this recording exists, so few tapes from around this time that are clean and audible. Now, it gets off to a bumpy start but smoothes out and remains consistent for the duration. It’s taken from I would say the middle of the venue but does not suffer from typical distance recordings. The main P.A. system is strong, so you get a good signal here, all instruments present and accounted for. Vocals remain very much up front in the mix, guitars follow. All in all this is really outstanding and the time period is optimal. Audience 8.9 - Two different evenings in Boston, each three years apart. For one thing, it's a well balanced capture all the way around (both gigs). Hearing the differences between stadium acts performing in '74 and then in '77 reveals subtle changes in music and delivery. I like being able to notice things like that and sets like this really allow the listener to immerse themselves in their own analytics as they listen. The sound is very good especially because a well done remastering job refreshed the tapes. I love this, this is a treat for people who wished they got to hear the opening acts too but tapers seldom saved tape for them. Audience 8.9 - A recording that seems to be, if I had to guess, somewhere mid crowd but manages to bring you closer to the action. Great separation of instruments and a clear capture with zero tape noise so you can almost hear the pot smoke swirling above your head ha ha! But, this is quite good, and mesmerizing, so have a great trip as you put your time machine headphones on and set it to Seattle in ’76. Audience 8.7 - This is a really nice and rare treat. I have been collecting every known Toronto show by Rush and this fills a nice place in the 70’s portion…and wow man I gotta say the quality is surprising since most of the other 70’s tapes are really not that great. I am not saying this is sparkling minty fresh, but it’s much more clear and present than the others and that is good for us because this is the earliest known AFTK performance and features tracks yet to be released. Audience 8.7 - This tape has one thing really going for it, and that is it is surprisingly clear, maybe not super close to the stage but that means there’s no distortion…there’s also no boominess, and there’s some good live atmosphere. The mix is decent, and overall this tape can be really enjoyed by anyone but let me tell you why I love it – because they play my fave Thin Lizzy song “Opium Trail” so there ya go.
