Audience 8.1 - In the pantheon of ’69 Stones audience tapes, this one ranks as one of the more listenable ones. The recorder levels are low, so some tape hiss comes up at volume, but it is relatively clear, no murkiness (which historically is a sound killer), and you actually distinguish very well the two distinct guitars (but still sometimes can’t tell where Taylor ends and Keith begins (which is kind of what they strove for anyway). Soundboard 9.7 - This is what keeps me excited about collecting…this right here. I was not very knowledgeable of their live catalog (whatever is out there, IDK) and so I did not know what to expect with this. Man, just man, it literally BLEW me away! Just amazing in every way – and the playing, along with pristine sound quality, it’s just a no-brainer. I did not know how accomplished these guys were, the musicianship is off the charts good. Very tight, very professional, and great songs for the style they play in – they even cover Lynyrd Skynyrd as a nod to their counterparts. Good, I mean, GREAT stuff! Audience 8.4 - A very rare treat, to hear a complete “Preservation” era show. There’s really not a lot of 1973 recording around. This one sounds just fine, while not venturing too far in either direction dynamically, and some lack of clarity down low in the spectrum…but the upper mids and highs seem fine. It’s a good recording that could use your own EQ flavoring to round it into shape. I am happy to have this as I have not heard many, if any, ’73 tapes as good as this. Audience 8.7 - Believe it or not, few excellent recordings exist of Motley Crue from these early days. This one is actually very decent, with a lot of festival atmosphere, and even though the recording is “distant” it is clear and you get a good round bass, clear and loud guitar, and vocals very clear. Virtually no muck in this tape, you can turn it up loud too because there’s good headroom. At the end of their set, Nikki throws his bass into the crowd and it lands on a fan named Stu Taylor, smashing his glasses and cutting his head open. A number of people take the guitar to the side of the stage to smash it up and share out the pieces. -
Soundboard 9.1 - A newly discovered tape, takes a little bit to get itself on track with some sound mix problems but they resolve during the first song (sometimes appearing here and there for a second or two later on). The band is very tight, a strong performance, you will wish we had the rest of the show, but it’s great we have this.
