• Audience 8.3 - A little thin and some tape hiss present. Tape starts off, maybe the first 45 minutes or so, is very good but later there is a sound glitch on stage, with the guitar amp, and the band is thrown off. The sound is similar maybe during the second half but the band is not quite the same imho. Still, a good one for collectors – very decent, can enjoy!
  • Audience 8.6 - A very “live” sounding tape! Excitement, yes indeed (despite modest hiss).
  • Audience 8.8 - Someone snuck in some good gear for this capture. You can just tell the mics are quality, there’s a great stereo pan, a good atmospheric capture.
  • Audience 8.5 - A rather intimate sounding capture, maybe a touch thin, but clear and lively.
  • Audience 9.0 - Clear and bright, pristine in the highs with the detail, remarkable.
  • Soundboard 8.8 - A little tape hiss present but a good board with my only issue being a lack of purity in the mix, somewhat muddy for a soundboard but it has a high rating due to the overall enjoyability.
  • FM Radio Broadcast 8.8 - Typical radio compression present, and some minor breakup during intense segments due to over-saturation but these issues are only minor ones....this is a good recording!
  • Audience 9.2 - After the first two songs things really smooth out and it's just a wonderful sounding tape that delivers the essential elements - dynamics, clarity, and atmosphere. Well done!

  • Audience 9.0 - A really good recording seemingly done on good Japanese gear so you get a sense of placement, good sonic clarity and guitar tone is dialed in. • Soundboard 9.0 - This recording pushes the max on the needles without going to far overboard, kind of gives it a darker tonal quality to it which is cool. • Soundboard 8.7 - The mix here tends to lean on a darker side (meaning more low end but not boomy) with guitar being clear enough but not the prominent instrument which is fine as this is totally all about ensemble and vastly different than anything he was doing with Deep Purple. That in itself makes this kind of odd, if he’s touring with Deep Purple yet managed to play some gigs with other people and sound so totally different musically, it’s really a zig zag routine here as the music is so all over the place in a good way. Detroit 1976 Audience 8.8 - This is a very good sounding tape in many regards although it is recorded in a large, cavernous arena and therefore you won’t get some of the detail a more intimate venue would give you. The vocals are somewhat drowned out by a guitar sound that is quite huge, with the bass complementing that hugeness to the degree that this show is a guitar/bass tour de force. Thankfully Tommy is the shining star in this recording…and shine he did. • Excellent Soundboard recording of a highly regarded Texas rock group prominent in the mid '70's. They played an original, hybrid progressive, upbeat hard rock along with more Austin, Texas flavored "Tex-Mex" Southern infused rock and roll...like I said a hybrid style.  Unfortunately it did not take hold anywhere outside of Austin, so it remained undiscovered but certainly in Texas the name is extremely well respected as it should be. Well worth discovering for yourself!
  • Audience 9.4 - A fantastic, close, precise recording that really drives that funk right through the speakers. A crackling, red hot energy that taper captures admirably, I mean, it sounds like he is sitting right directly in front of the band with microphones up and the band is only too happy to oblige. • Soundboard 9.5 - A wonderful set, a great board tape. If this is your introduction to Townes music, get ready to be greatly impressed with a singer-songwriter who has all the tools. Great lyrics, great delivery, great guitar playing. He was the total package. • Audience 8.8 - Perhaps lacking in sonic depth, it makes up for it in clarity and detail, the kind that allows you to hear the nuance because this band had nuance in spades.
  • Audience 8.4 - Very good job here by an astute taper who knew to capture the opening band as well – also featured here!
  • Audience 8.7 - A little rough around the edges but surprisingly good for the vintage.
  • Various sources various quality but mostly very good stuff here and overall very good Audio as well. As far as live compilations go, I can highly recommend this one. Probably should be a must own for fans and a good starter for those first discovering them. One of my personal favorites.
  • BBC - Soundboard 9.6 - Paris Theatre, London. Another personal favorite of mine.
  • Audience 9.6 - Hard to tell if this is Soundboard or Audience, it is that good. My best guess is that it is a Pro Audience, very good gear - probably open reel to reel.
  • Audience 7.7 - Lo-fi but surprisingly clear with a good biting guitar tone, and solid bass. Drums kind of buried.
  • Audience 8.8 - The taping duo responsible for this (and many others) one really knew what they were doing. There’s a few from this venue that unfortunately have overloaded levels, but not this one. This is a smooth ride, well worth the price of a ticket!
  • Audience 8.8 - A strong recording, clear and a good mix allowing you to hear all of the on stage happenings. A small amount of hiss is present, but this is inconsequential especially while the music is playing. A real good one and a real good tour.
  • Audience 7.2 - Sound not good but artwork is spectacular. For collectors only.
  • Audience 8.4 - A rather decent tape that delivers a clear representation of the music happening on stage. I found that maybe the levels were a tad hot, but I prefer that over low levels that you end up having to crank up causing terrible hiss. This one is not suffering at all from that problem!
  • Audience 9.6 - What makes this such an excellent recording imho is that the sound is not only really balanced, but mix-wise it is also superb. I mean, the punch of the bass, the crispness of the drums, the airiness of the keys, guitar right in the pocket…fuck what else do you want? It’s just excellence and your ears be the judge but mine are pretty spot on usually so…yeah, get this one.
  • Radio Broadcast 8.3 - A few generations down, some hiss, but you will love it anyway.
  • Pro Studio 9.8 - A better collection there never was. Perfect, and I don’t just mean sound quality, I also mean the work itself. A MUST have! • TREAT - Live in Milano, Italy (2016).     (Silver Pressed) Recorded and filmed at the Frontiers Rock Festival, Trezzio, Milano, Italy on April 23, 2016.
  • FM Radio Broadcast 8.8 - A tape that has held up decently over the years but does not have the expected clarity associated with a radio broadcast. That being said, it’s still very good, has the depth and dynamics just enough for a progressive rock performance on par with the likes of ELP. Great material here…a band that should have continued on but for disco taking over and what not. • Soundboard 9.3 - Of course it’s great but I am not too thrilled with the sound of the drums.
  • Soundboard 9.3 - Mixed well for a live broadcast, so you get a really good sense of what this band was about on the live stage. Now, I always kind of wondered really what these guys were about, and history can now reveal all of that, but my take is that they certainly owed a lot to Rush – that said they took that general presentation to a more FM friendly place. It worked for a while… Triumph Sports Arena Los Angeles, CA March 8, 1985   FM-sourced; lineage unknown

  • Soundboard 8.7 - Raw, unfiltered and killer. Sure, it ain’t perfect, it is a little squishy and compressed but it’s all there, and there’s plenty of headroom if you want to add Equalizer or even some reverb would help.
  • Audience 7.8 – 8.5 - Why the variable rating? Because the music was excessively loud and during extreme sections of music, there is distortion right in the middle frequency. What does this mean? Well, before the re-master it meant that you could not hear what was going on except for quieter passages (which incidentally sound great, and there is a lot of it since this was a band that played complex, dynamic music) but thankfully now a lot of that has been mitigated. It is still cluttered a bit when at full volume (really gives you an idea of how loud this show must have been) but MUCH better and easier on the ears now. Is it worth it?  I would say probably yes, but I know most prog enthusiasts are also critical of audio fidelity so there’s that. For me, I still got into this one, knowing the improvement made to the tape allowed me to give it a chance and I am glad I did. • Ranges 7.7 to 8.7 - Not a lot out there on this band. After listening you will gain an appreciation for them and maybe compare them to ELP and you could be forgiven for that. Sound quality is not spectacular but neither is it dog shit. I think this music should be remastered because it is excellent heavy prog!
