• Audience 8.2 - This rare old tape shows signs of age, with the typical problems such as tape hiss and some dropouts occasionally but it is saved because there is music underneath it, I mean, you do hear the band reasonably well and it happens that, for whatever reason, there is no abundance of ’79 shows by this band. Plenty of 80’s, and some pre-’79 too but not a lot of 1979 gigs. Also, of note this gig was the one right before their appearance on Rockpalast.

  • Pro Studio 9.5 - This collection would be for the person who does not wish to sift through exhaustive comps of early B-sides and studio sessions. Rather, it showcases a cross section of his early sessions designed to reveal only the highlights. It’s certainly easier to tackle especially if you plan on bringing the disc for a road trip.

  • Audience 8.7 - Recorded with reel to reel tape machine, this is actually very good although it begins with some fluctuations as the tapers settle in. They do an admirable job throughout as the tape stabilizes, they comment here and there but keep it to a minimum, as is the crowd noise. So, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable experience, the band sounding like they are not willing to sell out just yet as their set is not necessarily a top 40 showcase which is good actually. Some hits, but a lot of deep and meaningful music. • Audience 8.6 - A clear tape that EXPLODES from your speakers…but maybe because that is because the levels are really hot (but next to no distortion!) and it makes for a ridiculously electric sounding show. It’s like, man, I am here, my ears are melting and my mind is blowing! Way better than the previously circulating high gen tape, this is from the master reels and it shows. • Soundboard 9.4 - An expertly mixed affair, with a particularly lovely and warm vocal presence. Pretty thumping bass too! • Audience 9.1 - Sounds very close and hard to tell whether aud or board but for the audience members in the background. Super cool actually, I like the impact of the guitar/bass in this tape. • Audience 8.4 - This is a welcome tape as far as I am concerned. Anything with Ian Gillan has my attention, and this show is much better than the Dublin gig, which I mention because it also contains the infrequently performed “Hot Line” so it’s a big win for fans. The vocals are really clear, and so is the crunchy guitar, with occasionally a little phasing effect but kept to a minimum. Not hi-fidelity, but very good and well worth having in the collection! • Audience 8.7 - A bright tape, not so much depth of sound but certainly clear, and crunchy, with a prominent guitar that fills most of the space here. Give it five minutes and you will be having a good time and appreciating this line up because it is quite good…and so was the Dehumanizer album. A good time for the band, a good batch of new songs and a band that is totally gelled with each other. BLACK SABBATH Star Plaza Theater Merrillville IN. • Soundboard 9.4 - Sandy’s vocals are like, literally right there in your room. It’s scary! Well, I wouldn’t say scary, but really lifelike and present. • Audience 8.8 - You know right away that this is a decent recording but it takes a song to find the sweet spot. You keep hoping it opens up more, and it does, and then just sit back and enjoy…until the power failure (hence the title). Things are resolved quickly though and the fun begins again. A delightful show! Rush Sports Arena, San Diego, CA February 3, 1986 This might be a new source put into circulation. This date has never been on TTD. This was the Power Windows tour, and ironically, the band has a power failure durng Marathon, after the power returns, starts Marathon over again.
